I came across this by accident, really glad I found it, the story behind the poem, the fact that it was more than likely by Burns himself whilst knowing he was dying makes even more special!
My research indicates that David Elder was one of my relatives. Your film shows a gravestone for his two wives - how terribly sad that he married one wife, lost her and then married again some years later, only to lose her too. My family is the Elder family and we were strongly connected to the Jute industry in Dundee and India. Thank you for making this video and showing a part of my own heritage.

I'm from switzerland... But my heart is for Scotland and your story make me cryin... It's Wonderful your story ! A friend from Glasgow are died today... he has emigrate to switzerland the are few years ! I promise ! the next time I'm going to Glasgow, I'm gonna remember your story ! :)
I stumbled across your story whilst searching for versions of this particular song. Sad yet interesting. I hope that the cemetery can be restored as mentioned. My late mother was Anglo Indian and born in Chennai (Madras), she moved to the UK in the 40's and I was born in 64 in the NE of England not far from the Scottish border. I now live in Germany and have done so since leaving the forces in 1990.
I believe the author of "Land O' The Leal" was Carolina Nairne, née Oliphant, Lady Nairne (16 August 1766 - 26 October 1845) who was a Scottish songwriter and song collector. It must be true .... I read it on the internet!!!!
I came across this while I was searching about "old park street cemetery".Being a Calcuttan,it surprises me that I am not aware of this cemetery and as I studied on a Scottish school,so always I find a faint connection with Scotland. But,the poor condition of this cemetery makes me sad.

Thank you for your kind comments. I hope to return to Calcutta - my visit in 2010 was all too fleeting and I loved the place.
