I’m glad to be one of the founders that help fund this game. I still have my autograph box and other goodies from the devs. I knew the game had potential from the start and I can’t wait for POE2.
I can't even remember where I saw the article...but I remember reading about Chris Wilson and two other gents from GGG going on a fund raising tour through Silicon Valley. I read about how they wanted to create a "spiritual successor" to Diablo 2, and I started following them from that point forward. I don't know what "founder" means in this case, but I did buy into the closed beta, and of course still have my Kiwi Pet. I think it was only $20, if I recall correctly. It's been a fun journey. I started in HC which I think at that time comprised the largest percentage of players it's ever had. Eventually, the need to have an "/oos" (out of sync) macro for dealing with desync combined with real world responsibilities prompted the switch to "soft-core". I haven't played every league but at least half of them. I honestly rarely like the leagues that are overly intrusive into the core gameplay. I didn't like Heist, Delve, Synthesis, etc. I prefer the simplistic mechanics like Abyss, Harbinger, Legion, and Metamorph. I'm also looking forward to PoE2.
Not going to lie, but I wish I had been part of this from the beginning. This game has become a part of my life. It's a shame that I only have been around for about 2 years, 3 in January. Thank you for this video.
I first played at the release (or maybe it was open beta, I'm not even sure), but there was not much to do back then. Dominus was the final boss. There was no atlas or any endgame worth mentioning (but to be fair the extended endgame wasn't even a thing for ARPGs back in the days, so GGG are basically invented it). You could run the campaign three times on different difficulties and then do merciless docks until you get bored, but that's about it. So it was much later when I got actually hooked. And I skipped a bunch of early leagues, which I really regret now.
@@TheFlyingMage That was open beta. The game was totally different back then and not just because it lacked the end-game content systems. The relative character power was so much lower that just the base content was much harder than most juiced content today. Lots of tip-toeing around, kiting mobs, worrying about nasty rares, etc... It was a lot of fun because no character could reasonably be level capped or geared to trivialize the game so there was always progress to make.
i was part of poe since it first appeared on steam. Hardcore and softcore had differend leagues, there was no endgame besides farming lightning coil and 6 linking it. I remember 6 link lightning coil selling for over 20 exalted. I couldnt imagine to ever become that rich to buy unique 6 link. The game felt like a mix of today´s ruthless and today´s ssf. It wasnt as restrictive as ruthless but was nowhere near today´s power level. No good leagues to farm currency in or to craft with. Then the dried lake meta came. Can you imagine spending most of your ingame hours running act 9 instead of maps? That was the thing lot of people did. It was huge area with pleanty of monsters and the monster level wasnt even that much lower as players were struggeling to sustain high end maps. It was popular option for builds that were not as strong but were quite fast. The most broken build back then was righterious fire with 50k dps. EK with old arctic armour that reduced flat damage was also quite a meta. Vall spark dominated dried lake. Story boss farming was also quite a thing. I remember grinding for few hours dominus to farm rares, uniques and exalts. Eventualy one exalt dropped, it was broken. More relevant though was atziry farming as it was the first big boss. Many mediocre leagues later, breach came. It was the best league ever. From that point, poe became quite modern.
Do you guys remember master rota ? Escorting spirit for haku, lockpick vorici, vagan 1v1. The Vagan dagger for fakener mjornel coc discharge. The ledge mapping. Docks farming, Dominus Cull start, Voll farm for divination card. The time that I won't ever forget.
yeah I remember the level 8 all masters challenge, took the entire league lol. Even GGG thought that was a mistake because they reworked it 2 or 3 times. And yeah I remember farming campaign content a lot more, back then people didn't really complain about it as much. Maps was seen as a true endgame, not something you get to in 1 day.
With rota, you could get all masters to lvl 8 in two weeks. Garbage grind though. Spending 2h a day in dumb mandatory content was not fun. Getting rid of these is one of the best thing that ever happened in PoE. The actual best thing being the Atlas skill tree, imo.
"so here's how this go You take a crack at me and I'll take a crack at you" my evasion build his resolute technique "who taught you how to fight your mom?"
A titanic amount of effort went into this video. Any comments, shares, likes, subscribes, et cetera are incredibly appreciated. What is YOUR favorite PoE expansion of all time?
Not my favorite but I did 40/40 in Crucible where I played Strength Stack Rep. Alberons Static Strike which was my favorite build so far. I can tell you Heist is my least favorite mechanic though. EDIT: Im retarded. For some reason I was only thinking of all the bad mechanics in leagues. I actually enjoyed the Huge Nerf Expansion (still enjoying) and Expedition is my current favorite mechanic right next to fixed Synthesis Memories.
@@gochubattamuggaLUL same here, I found the expedition nerfs to be like fresh air since it opened up more choices for support gems. Besides expedition, Archnemesis was my favorite League. Nice League mechanic, my first time to do 38/40 and the atlas passive tree, alongside no more weird watchstone hopping stuff and new bosses made it the best league for me so far.
@@frenchcatgoesham9665 Watchstone Conquerors was so trash. It was nice the first 2 leagues it was introduced but got stale very fast. Yea. The nerfs were a nice reset. Ive never been a fan of harvest so i hope one day they can replace it with 'fixed' recombs and Sentinel or even Tattoos.
Great video, I've been a fan of PoE for more than the 10 years it's been officially out, but you forgot the league that changed the game forever: Onslaught.
The ride hasn't always been smooth, and I haven't agreed with every decision, but there's no other game on the market I can think of that has this kind of love put into it from Management on down. GGG cares about Path of Exile, cares about it enough to take risks, cares about it enough to make mistakes, cares about it enough to not give up on it. I love it for that.
I'm thankful that I started playing during the beta. I have been able to learn and experience the new mechanics slowly over the years. It must be overwhelming for new players to have to learn 10 years of content all at once.
not exactly. the only shock is discovering that your "I want this, I want that" build is useless after a while. if you learned that lesson, it's like any other rpg, only with a ton of content which you can always sideline for later.
agreed played since Betrayal and i was trash barely made it pass act5 and couldn't kill the Giant turtle thing now I'm blasting maps staying for 16 hours a day playing.@@Prentach
Very nostalgic, loved it. To me, Delve and Abyss were the best leagues, Blight was also good but laggy as fuck before GGG fixing. Harvest is the only one I regret not playing. I also think GGG should have worked more on the Cut-throat League/Mode and improved it, it had a really cool concept.
this game changed my prospective on gaming as a whole. never forget the first time i had a build that just clicked, first time doing uber bosses and feeling the dialogues and music between the mayham 9/10
The sheer amount of content is just amazing, from the little stuff like strongboxes, rogue exiles and essences to the much larger, alternate content like Heists, Delve and Sanctum. That first time you get a blight map, that first time you get an expedition logbook or a grand heist, or discover a themed area/city in Delve and realise the content for each mechanic is a lot more expansive than you initially thought. Hell, even the little stuff like a mirrored item dropping, or multitudes of the same item type dropping can be in itself a change to the usual, standard loot drops. What's also great is that unlike in many other ARPGs where you kind of just expect to do the same stuff but maybe with more buffed set items with each league, even without knowing what the next league's mechanic is in POE, I'm already looking forward to changing up my play-style or what content to dedicate more time into. For instance, I've only ever done sub-100 or so Delve, but I know there's so much more so I already plan on finding a build and dedicating more time to really push that. Last league I finally experienced my first abyss depths. I know there's an absolute ton of content regarding Breach, Uber bosses, unique or league-mechanic maps/etc. There's so much I have yet to experience. In most ARPGs you just repeat the same stuff over and over each league, with a different buffed set of items or some minor change. In PoE, you can switch things up because there's too much EXISTING content to complete in a single league (at least for a 'casual' player), not to mention the new league's mechanics.
@@ThaGamingMisfit I have chronic insomnia since birth and several chronic ailments like rheumatic arthritis.. so you could say I have the time lmfao, programming & poe all day any day.
2 major flaws: 1) There are way too much visual garbage. Gameplay is like you're hoping you don't get 1 shot by something that you can't see. 2) Camera is too zoomed in. Again, you're hoping something doesn't 1 shot you from off screen that's loke a few inches away from you. Other than these 2 issues love the game (most of the time)
Tala Moana, Warrior! Great video, good to go over all the times we had. I still remember when Betrayal first came out, and we lost the old masters, was crazy to me to see them go, especially since i remember when they first came out.
Mate just about to watch but want to thank you in advance for putting in the work, the POE space has been a bit quiet lately with the stable meta etc, so your efforts digging deeper to find the content to get us through the dry spell are much appreciated :)
What an amazing and impressive tribute to your (and my) favourite game of all time ! If you hadn't mentioned the fact you only started playing in Blight, I would have thought you were here from the beginning, amazing how you nailed so many details from times you didn't experience yourself ! I feel blessed I have been part of GGG's creation since 2012. I have played all leagues except 4, and a few leagues I only played for a short while, so I literally felt 10 years of my life pass by in 45 minutes, that feels really amazing ! The first 1-2 years I made tons of characters every league, but after that I focusied on mainly 1 or maybe 2 builds every league, usually my own creation or spinoff, not doing the economy rat race but enjoying the game like a genuine dedicated casual. It's very hard to me to pick a favourite league, I did play 'bad' leagues for a long while and some great ones for shorter, I set my own goals in the game, sometimes exploring an older league mechanic again, I guess that's why the core league mechanic is not the only aspect that decides my play time. But if I had to pick one it's probably Essence, I have very fond memories of that one, followed by Incursion, Betrayal and Harbinger. I was shocked by the fact Einhar, Alva, Niko and Jun were all introduced in a single year, that is blowing my mind ! Jun and Alva are still among my favorite mechanics in the game. I also like to see permanent Standard as 'ascending', I love to focus on a few items to acquire in a challenge league for one of my favorite characters in Standard, despite almost nover touching that character, I guess I like long term stuff and that might explain a part of my love for the game.
I recall playing early getting stuck in the second difficulty when Piety was the final boss. Back when ARPGs was all about damage, PoE taught that was not the case if you were to survive in Wraeclast. Good times, love this game.
I started playing in Heist (after trying it in Incursion without any guides or prior knowledge, and giving up in act 3). Favorite expansion was probably Sentinel, but TotA was a great contender. Largely influenced by the builds I played, RF and strength stack kinetic blast, respectively. I have high hopes for the next one as well. Last favorite league was probably Crucible, I've never stopped engaging with a mechanic so early into the league. Archnemesis was like that too I suppose. It's been a wild ride, and I can't imagine anything that could make me stop playing this top tier game. Very cool to see the whole history laid out here, thanks for the effort you put into this.
started at 2.0, my favourites: 2,6 legacy, (mayhem) metamorph (after auto loot), harvest (insane crafts) and delve (just amazing). thank you GGG, how you guys evolve and branch the game, always loyal to the fanbase big thanks to Chris and everyone that works on poe :)
This game is too damn good. I've played since the buy-in alpha, have 10kish hours between standalone client and steam, but every league I STILL learn about something that's been in the game for years. Great video, you can tell a ton of time was put into this, keep up the good work.
Oh my God invasion league! I dropped my first 6l that league from the teleporting discharge blue big brain thing. The self replicating soul eater snake too was SO bad
Man, for a 50 minutes video, time flew away so fast XD Started in delirium league and I wish I would had start earlier, since the game is so great. My favorite league is probably ritual, it's also the league where I was able to clear all pinnacle boss and really craft my first items. I learned so much in that one (thanks to broken BF BB Chieftain). Of course Kalandra was the worst one, and it's sad that the more iconic part of PoE (Kalandra) was a total floop I can't wait to see what GGG with PoE2 can bring us on beta and for the leagues after. This game is part of my life now and I enjoy every hype season so much, and now you part of it and it's great ! :D
As a poe noob (finished the campaign and got into tier ~5 of maps) I felt a bit overwhelmed by the endgame. There is so much to do it was really hard for me to really decide what to actually do but at the same time, I had no idea what I can achieve and therefore didn't really have the motivation to play anymore. After this video, I can see there's even a lot of other things possible that I didn't even know existed. Frankly, knowing this, I'm really glad they are going to start poe 2 as a separate game since I like the game in general but it's really not very noob friendly now.
Hey man, getting to tier 5 on your first playthrough is already incredible. Next time you want to jump in again, hop into /global 2 or /global 3 and ask build questions there! The huge part of PoE that goes unmissed is the endless Q&A between fellow players sharing knowledge, cool tricks, and tips. It may not have made it to the video, but I can assure you it's core :))
@@Primaeva you know what, I actually watched a couple more videos on the topic of endgame during the last days a now that I understand it more, I created a new char and this time I'm following a build guide. I have to say going in first without one was a really good decision. I can now appreciate the quality of the build against my own build and it kind of allows me to try my own build again in the future but with much better knowledge of mechanics and combos. We'll see how all of this pans out but I usually enjoy the leveling part more than the actual endgame grind in aprgs but let's see how it turns out here with the size of poe endgame. Overall the biggest issue with poe I can see is that I had to watch a couple of hours of videos to even be able to get a grasp on what the endgame offers to me. Not even talking about "poe beginner guide" videos at 2+ hours of length :D
I remember playing talisman league, I did not remember that it was before lab being introduced, it's hard to imagine now not having ascendancy classes...
I started seriously playing the game back in Delirium but my all time favorite build was in Heist with the Impaler Call of Steel Champion. With all the new Transfigured Gems I have a lot of hopium that the call of steel playstyle will come back in one way or another.
I freaking loved legacy league. I played the hell out of beast, and I was sad that I could not defeat high tier rigwald. I did not know how to trade.... But my first amazing build came in Perandus. I smashed Uber atziri for my very first time. Tripple dipping damage in my own invention of poison ice trap. Cold to fire, fire to chaos, chaos poisons, poison scaled off all of the different damage types, increases to global damage (this term did not exist back then) would increase each. So 10% increase damage gave 30% increase damage. And yes this worked with more damage as well. Elemental focus for 80% more damage, 40% more fire and 40% more cold. That damage also affected poison. It was glorious xD throw my trap, Uber atziri instantly died. She was the final boss of the game at the time. I have played since 1.0 where all we had was big chests spawning randomly giving us magic and rare items.
I envy the new players who started after the nerf massacre. They didn't have to suffer. Imagine having fun with 10 builds, then one patch came and all those builds suddenly poofed. It hurts so much.
11:22 This here, this is when Path of Exile became special. The Atlas is the best endgame any ARPG has ever conceived. 24:06 Conquerors reaffirmed this and at this point PoE was lapping the field. 29:34 I wholeheartedly agree, Ritual league is the best the game ever was and maybe ever will be. Everything reached critical mass: the league mechanic, harvest re-work, heist endgame, awakened Sirus, and Maven introduction. It was my favorite point in the game. 32:08 This is one of the two biggest player revolts I have seen against decisions made by PoE. People were very unhappy. I believe my original skelemancer was killed off here, my favorite build in the game. 34:28 This here, again.. it is hard to describe how unfathomably far ahead PoE is in comparison to any other similar game. The modern Atlas is just so good it really can't be explained. Eldritch crafting has also been extremely beneficial to players of all skills and commitment levels. But we lost Zana :( 37:27 This was the ANGRIEST I have ever seen the playerbase. Kalandra was probably the all-time low point for PoE. I believe it set the record for highest player count, followed by having the quickest drop off. Since the Siege of the Atlas, PoE has reached a historic point I think. The introduction of the Atlas already set it miles ahead of any competition, but now I would personally consider it an all-time great video game and the superior to it's spiritual predecessor, Diablo 2. Thankful I've been able to spend (too much) time playing this game.
I started first in betrayal really wish I had done so earlier, problem was I was still quite into wow on doing mythic raiding in the top 200-400 space. So didn't exactly have all that investment time compared to nowadays. Been going steady since Ultimatum and is still in my top 3 just the sheer joy of that expansion. It's fun seeing how one have experienced joys of maybe not perfect or even good leagues, you could still enjoy it for other reasons, personally I liked scourge a fair bit (Also one of the cutest mtx challenger pets) it was also a clear cut it was a sc league because "Clamp the brakes johnny, this is gonna be a wild ride" was it fucking rippy. I still never understood why they didn't change the charge harpies to have 1 sec more to their load skill, so you wouldn't get insta gibbed when you reached the 200ish stage. Only been 2 leagues I didn't enjoy much which was Expedition (Tedious pickup mostly) and I couldn't wait for fix and then Kalandra (Again late fix and I was already done) Kalandra and Crucible I pretty much just did challenges in less than 3 weeks and quit. Am really looking forward to Affliction since I didn't know it was the OG name for Deli.
I started at the last week of breach, try to ssf a RF build in legacy league but really started playing on fall of oriath. The idea of going the same campain in 3 difficulty levels never clicked me, even before playing diablo 1 and 2. Why I would play the same stuff, but harder? As league after league went by, I remember fondly betrayal for two things: first, the item meta that I finally understood, as that time a multimodded item was more than capable of making into a endgame build. The other aspect was that was the first time I got a build strong enougth to do uber elder. A low life cold bv occultist, such a confy playstyle even today, after a bunch of nerfs.
Honestly didn't realize how early I had started playing, thought the acts went to 10 before 3.0. Glad I got to experience it for the first time with the rest of the community.
I started the game. In Legacy. I still have my League stones. I was here for Fall ot Oriath. And beastiary. Ive played every league since. What a qonderful ride its been
Great video! My first playthrough was in Legion, but i put it down for a while and didn't come back again until Ritual and ive been playing every league since then. My favorite league so far is Sanctum.
I've been playing path of Exile since closed beta, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that I put maybe hundreds of thousands of hours into this game (Even as somebody who only plays two to three characters a league). I started around the time that krip did; when I won a closed beta key on the GGG website (back then they had a draft where you could submit your email on their website and after a certain amount of time you would eventually get drawn to play the game). This was back when the final end game boss was the vaal oversoul and act 3 didn't exist. Here's an interesting anecdote that I remember from the beta. At one point during the beta, I had a conversation with one of the devs in general chat (later found out this was the chris wilson). Chris was somebody who I was familiar with from the patch videos but I didn't know his in-game name until that conversation. This probably happened around the time that dominus was announced, because I remember we were talking about Acts and difficulties. The original two act incarnation of the game had four difficulties, and the 3-4 act variant had 3 difficulties; basically, you would play through the game in all of the difficulties before you got to maps. This was something that was pretty ubiquitous in the ARP genre, Diablo 2 and 3 had done it prior to POE and so had many other games. Someone in general had asked chris what the scope of the game was supposed to eventually be and he responded that they wanted to have 10 acts of story. I remember at the time I just thought that was a bit of a pipe dream. After all, every ARPG makes you play through a multiple times before you get to the end game content, why break that paradigm (I was extremely naive by the way). And then some 4 to 5 years later, we got patch 3.0 with six new acts. It just goes to show you that they always had the intention of going in that direction eventually. Path of exile is such an epic game and GGG is such a solid development studio. Looking through this history brings back so many memories. Playing lightning arrow because it could Hit the same target multiple times with chain and because shotgunning was still a thing in the game back then. Playing explosive arrow with a Quill rain that I had found and 5 linked myself. The first time I got a koam's heart to drop or that time i found a shavronne's wrappings. When lionseye was one of the best bows in the game and not just some other trash tier unique bow. Playing self-casted burning discharge, and using instant leach to make a character that could one-shot basically everything but die instantly even reflect packs. Using a voll's devotion to make a cast on crit discharge build. Playing a Max block incinerate build with cybil's paw etc. Using freezing pusle as a legitimately strong self cast skill because it could shotgun with gmp.
As someone who played from the beginning, I can tell you, you overexaggerated the Lake of Kalandra stuff. Yes, it was bad, but there were worse leagues. Metamorph was bad, Bestiary was received bad at the beginning too and probably the biggest outrage was during the Expedition league. Also Scourge pretty much oneshotting you the moment you enabled the league mechanic. Also Harvest in the most powerful form existed only during Harvest and later during Ritual league. Everything after was already nerfed version.
Great video! It must took a long time. I think this format is much better than previous version, when you will speak 10+ minutes on every league. Thank you, you are really PoE´s archivist of knowledge :D.
I actually started with 1.0 and 1.1, but I played on Garena back then. I spent a long time away from the game, until Betrayal, I think. I did that league for a while, and then stepped away again. After that, I came back to Metamorph, and I basically played every league since for at least a couple days.
Great stuff, "To Sum It All Up" really showcased how much content modern PoE has. I first started playing in Incursion, and played every league since - enjoyed some more than others but always get excited at the start of a new league. Let's hope Affliction is a banger!
Always agreed players mislabeled PoE as bloated. It's contents are always seen as a negative thing. The game is free has a lot more to offer than other paid games and people are not liking it? The contents are not whack. All of it are doable, useful, interactive, and enjoyable. But PoE made it better because contents are modifiable. No need to interact with a thing you hate by allocating nodes in the atlas tree.
Great video mate, I myself started in abyss and have been loving it ever since. My favourite league is ritual league and my least favourite is probably delirium, because the mechanic turned everything gray and tanked my fps :(. The game has had ups and downs for sure, but one thing that has always stood out to me, is the passion GGG has for their game. I hope GGG remains as passionate and dedicated to delivering an awesome game as they have been for the last 10 years and I definitely think they will!
Been playing since Harvest league. Funny how the only one I missed since then was ultimatum, and everybody is still talking about it... Favourite change to the game has to be the Atlas passive skill tree. Least favourite league - crucible. I dont like that much borrowed power, it throws the balance off (exploding totems, I'm looking at you). Awesome video. Loved it.
Trust me all those people claiming they miss Ultimatum will be very disappointed, it's just kill monsters in a circle with freezing time. It's more of a meme than actually wanting the mechanic back.
The amount of new toys to play with we get every 3 Months is absolutely insane. Makes it even more of a bummer that the community has become gradually worse since Betrayal league. Just unbelievable toxic. And of course people not understand that an Auction House would absolutely demolish the fine balance the game has struck for years. Because people only ever think short term.
I agree with the other comment, wish I was apart of this from the very beginning, I only discovered path of exile 3 years ago, and I love every second of the game, my next comment not sure if many would agree with me but I'd love the Warhammer brand to do a Chaosbane 2 in that ever glorious Unreal 5.3, I think the game had some great ideas going for it, some of them I feel was done better than Die-ildo 4, that upcoming abotoir of zen event is completely locked out for the casual player, but I guess at least the casual player gets a holiday event, so that's better than a kick in the teeth I guess, I'd be happy if they just boost the LVL cap (it is slowly getting better) but there's so much potential for Chaosbane 2 to expand on, everyone loves to level up but don't make it feel reaching LVL 100 become pointless after, D4 made me feel like that, least in Chaosbane, I think the leveling up mechanic is unlimited so you can exceed LVL 100 and forever beyond and it's not as bad as people bang on about, that Tower mode is dangerously addictive, there's so much untapped potential for an expanded on Chaosbane 2, C1's story is delightfully ham cheesy, maybe that's part of the appeal for me, absolutely love this vid you've put together and I love your sense of humour, look forward to the next video you work on, thank you n take care till next
Great video. PoE truly is an amazing game. I played between 3.14 and 3.16 and in those 3 leagues i racked up over 800 hrs playtime, i just enjoyed the game that much. The recent 3.25 content reveal got me hooked on the game once again and im excited for the leaguestart tomorrow. Just a bit overwhelming trying to catch up with 9 leagues worth of content
Never seen your videos before. Thought meh, probably a tryhard contentcreator. Man was i wrong, super awesome content, well edited and a nice voice. Im a fan!
Haven't missed a league since closed beta and don't intend to stop. Having two PoEs at the same time might finally burn me out though, after a few years.
Damn it's been too long. I just got back into this game after a few years because the intricacies intimated me. I remember genuinely loving the game tho. I watched the credits in their entirety after the Scion was released after putting up the unfinished act 3 and maps I was too weak to run lol. Honestly, D4 sucking ass got me back into this. Now i'm learning everything I should have already learned. My atlas is almost complete for the first time with 15 points left and I know it's a small goal compared to most players, but it's a goal. I also watch the "how we designed PoE to be played forever" on UA-cam and shit, these guys really outdone themselves. I hope this game continues to get love after PoE 2 comes out.
Great video! Maybe my only critique would be being a bit more clear which mechanics became core and not (as someone who hasnt touched the game since 2019)
Just started playing during 3.22 and the game has pretty much shelved every game I own. As a kiwi I’m more disappointed that this amazing game developed by a group of kiwis had not caught my attention earlier.
Been playing since Anarchy league ( not even covered in this video ) with some breaks in between. PoE has come a long way from a slow but interesting ARPG to this behemoth of a game. Hope PoE2 will be great as well. Regarding your question at 42:30, I think that newer PoE leagues are definitely smaller in scope than huge ones like Delve, but not that small ( Sanctum and TOTA, for example, are whole new endgames ). We also didn't have any major expansions since Siege of the Atlas, I believe we will get one soon ( or parallel with the release of PoE2 ), but not with Affliction.
I first played back in 2015 with Ascendancy, then Atlas of Worlds, Fall of Oriath, Incursion, very little of Betrayal and finally Blight which was the league I played the most and haven't played since, waiting for PoE 2 instead but fuck it Affliction looks good. Pretty sad I never played Synthesis, only saw the trailer after it had ended and it never got integrated with Standard. Same with Harvest, seems like it was a fun league.
i remember evr ysingle change untill abyss (pc was broken and i had a 3 yr pause) dominus a long time for the most player bonecrushingly hard there was no tutorial, rarely did anything explain itself egnough to truely deep dive and now 4015,1 hours later im proud evrything durvived and enjoyed to have what a journey ... and how big GGG's kid today is ... :)
opening youtube - seeing a 50 min tri video and knowing this will be a nice one! Edit: Have you ever seen the 1 hours presentation of chris wilson called: designing path of exile to be played forever? if not you totally have to watch it! its 5 years old now and i discovered it yesterday. very nice one!
late to the part here. Just trying to grasp everything POE. I'm amazed of all the content available. I love the fact that there mechanics from most of the leagues in the base game. I had no idea what Cluster Jewels were until now. I have several sitting in my stash and now I know what they do. Incredible. I'm curious what will transfer over to POE2. I have never been so addicted to a game like POE. I'm surprised I didn't get into POE much sooner. I tried it back when D3 came out and at the time, my CPU couldn't handle it. When Exilecon 2023 showed us POE2, I was floored. Now playing POE. Reminds me of my time playing Diablo 2 which POE is the true successor to D2.
I had most fun in Ultimatum, Archnemesis and Expedition leagues. I prefer it when we can use the league mechanic in the map, which is why I'm not a fan of leagues like Tota or Sanctum. The worst league in terms of fun for me was Sentinel. As I said i loved archnemesis league but when they put it into core I hated it, because it sucked when you couldn't build these rare monsters yourself and instead ran into these random, overpowered mobs., that wouldn't even drop decent loot most of the time. Objectively speaking I wouldn't say the quality of leagues got worse. GGG made some questionable balance decisions here and there, which made more sense when they showed us how they want the combat system in PoE2 to work.
I only got to play the earlier years, from open beta to around the end of 2018. Then GGG updated the graphics(especially shadows and lighting) so much that my PC couldn't play the game anymore and I didn't get a new PC until about 8 months ago. Now I haven't played in so long and there is so much new shit it seems really hard to get back into and I'm thinking of just waiting for PoE2. I really wish I hadn't have missed out of the Atlas skill tree and being able to run the type of content you want though, hopefully it will be around in PoE2.
great video. while i have almost 500 hours on this game i still consider myself a beginner because i cant wrap my mind around the game as a whole, but this kinda helped put it ina perspective for me
Well, I've only played two leagues, so my least favorite is Crucible, and my Favorite is ancestor lol. Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else in the community in Affliction!
I've played since closed beta 2012 and its been a wild ride.
Glad to see you're not liar......for once
Do you guys remember master rota ? Escorting spirit for haku, lockpick vorici, vagan 1v1. The Vagan dagger for fakener mjornel coc discharge. The ledge mapping. Docks farming, Dominus Cull start, Voll farm for divination card. The time that I won't ever forget.
I recall it every time I hear talamawana warrior ....oh no time to escort spirits in hell
yeah I remember the level 8 all masters challenge, took the entire league lol.
"so here's how this go You take a crack at me and I'll take a crack at you"
my evasion build
his resolute technique
"who taught you how to fight your mom?"
Docks farming, that brings back the old days lol
Haven't missed a league since Onslaught. "Hi I'm Chris Wilson from Grinding Gear Games" still gives me butterflies lol
Same but with Blight!
A titanic amount of effort went into this video. Any comments, shares, likes, subscribes, et cetera are incredibly appreciated. What is YOUR favorite PoE expansion of all time?
Thank you for everything you do!
I started with sentinel. I was utterly overwhelmed, did not know what to look for first. Took me 4 leagues to get halfway decent at the game
not exactly. the only shock is discovering that your "I want this, I want that" build is useless after a while. if you learned that lesson, it's like any other rpg, only with a ton of content which you can always sideline for later.
agreed played since Betrayal and i was trash barely made it pass act5 and couldn't kill the Giant turtle thing now I'm blasting maps staying for 16 hours a day playing.@@Prentach
Been playing since alpha & I knew from day one this game would be huge. It never let me down.
Affliction is gonna be my first full play through of a league! (I joined Ancestor late) To say that i am excited is an understatement. 😅
WELCOME!
Absolute omega giga video, great summary. I'm sad that I missed the majority of the decade, but grateful that I found the game when I did!
this game changed my prospective on gaming as a whole. never forget the first time i had a build that just clicked, first time doing uber bosses and feeling the dialogues and music between the mayham 9/10
Can we apreciate how the game went from like d2 graphics to AAA without we even noticing.
I started in 2019, I have now 7.5k hrs played. One of the best games ever made. Good video.
You play 4-5 hours every day, are you a streamer or just addicted ? :D I have 10k since 2013 and it already feels I'm addiced.
@@ThaGamingMisfit I have chronic insomnia since birth and several chronic ailments like rheumatic arthritis.. so you could say I have the time lmfao, programming & poe all day any day.
@@shroomedup And sounds like you have a degree in ergonomics
Delve needs to have the song Diggy Diggy Hole play in the background while delving.
you are HIM , best POE info content on the net. TY for grinding reserch to catch someone like me up who just started playing this year
I appreciate that so much, spread the word, exile!
Thanks for the huge comment man, I appreciate you pointing out my research on the details, it took awhile to make this and get them right!
I recall playing early getting stuck in the second difficulty when Piety was the final boss. Back when ARPGs was all about damage, PoE taught that was not the case if you were to survive in Wraeclast. Good times, love this game.
48 minutes?? Oh my, this is going to be a good one.
Very cool to see the whole history laid out here, thanks for the effort you put into this.
started at 2.0, my favourites: 2,6 legacy, (mayhem) metamorph (after auto loot), harvest (insane crafts) and delve (just amazing).
thank you GGG, how you guys evolve and branch the game, always loyal to the fanbase
big thanks to Chris and everyone that works on poe :)
Man, for a 50 minutes video, time flew away so fast XD
Started in delirium league and I wish I would had start earlier, since the game is so great.
My favorite league is probably ritual, it's also the league where I was able to clear all pinnacle boss and really craft my first items. I learned so much in that one (thanks to broken BF BB Chieftain).
Of course Kalandra was the worst one, and it's sad that the more iconic part of PoE (Kalandra) was a total floop
I can't wait to see what GGG with PoE2 can bring us on beta and for the leagues after. This game is part of my life now and I enjoy every hype season so much, and now you part of it and it's great ! :D
Warframe and PoE were released both in 2013, that's wild
I played from beta to Ritual. Finding this retrospective is a helpful way to get a glimpse at what I've missed the last few years.
Wow i cant believe 2013 was the actual launch date. I remember farming piety because she was the last boss available.
I cant speak for everyone, but i love long form videos like this, put it on a headphone and just play the game.
This game will indeed steal your soul
What a walk down memory lane that was, great video!
I remember playing talisman league, I did not remember that it was before lab being introduced, it's hard to imagine now not having ascendancy classes...
the thing i like about legion is the music. What a banger
Pulling a *sirgog* that was brilliant! 😄
Hahahaha thanks :)
Loved reading through this. Thanks for watching!
Cool video .. appreciate the huge effort you put into it
.. keep going brother
Thank you for this! It was a nice trip down nostalgia lane. Harbinger was probably my favorite league!
Damn being reminded of the scope and cotent of older leagues really shows how little leagues nowadays add to the game.
Delve is the huge one for me.
GGG earns my respect. They keep on going inventing new things. Not a lot of game devs are able to do that.
Great video! It must took a long time.
I think this format is much better than previous version, when you will speak 10+ minutes on every league.
Thank you, you are really PoE´s archivist of knowledge :D.
I have the kiwi mascot you got for playing the closed beta :P
I actually started with 1.0 and 1.1, but I played on Garena back then. I spent a long time away from the game, until Betrayal, I think. I did that league for a while, and then stepped away again. After that, I came back to Metamorph, and I basically played every league since for at least a couple days.
I completely forgot about the "kill 1 mob of a pack" master mission. What a pain!!!
edit: 15:21 omg
and the escort mission xD
still learning after 10 years and 12k hours played.. play it daily still.. this game is awesome.. period..
Great stuff, "To Sum It All Up" really showcased how much content modern PoE has. I first started playing in Incursion, and played every league since - enjoyed some more than others but always get excited at the start of a new league. Let's hope Affliction is a banger!
Glad you enjoyed it!
ive been loving the game for just over 10 years now, it has been such a fun and rewarding time all these years. I'm looking forward to another 10 :)
That's awesome! Agreed - to another TEN years, CHEERS!
Great job on the vid! Beyond was my start and will always be my favorite.
It's more of a meme than actually wanting the mechanic back.
love the vid. I picked up the game late synthesis and I love it to this day, great work by great people.
No idea about the toxicity, don't look for it?
played since 2017 and really got hooked in 2018
I agree with the other comment, wish I was apart of this from the very beginning, I only discovered path of exile 3 years ago, and I love every second of the game, my next comment not sure if many would agree with me but I'd love the Warhammer brand to do a Chaosbane 2 in that ever glorious Unreal 5.3, I think the game had some great ideas going for it, some of them I feel was done better than Die-ildo 4, that upcoming abotoir of zen event is completely locked out for the casual player, but I guess at least the casual player gets a holiday event, so that's better than a kick in the teeth I guess, I'd be happy if they just boost the LVL cap (it is slowly getting better) but there's so much potential for Chaosbane 2 to expand on, everyone loves to level up but don't make it feel reaching LVL 100 become pointless after, D4 made me feel like that, least in Chaosbane, I think the leveling up mechanic is unlimited so you can exceed LVL 100 and forever beyond and it's not as bad as people bang on about, that Tower mode is dangerously addictive, there's so much untapped potential for an expanded on Chaosbane 2, C1's story is delightfully ham cheesy, maybe that's part of the appeal for me, absolutely love this vid you've put together and I love your sense of humour, look forward to the next video you work on, thank you n take care till next
Im a fan!
I appreciate that, I hope you enjoy all the future and past content. There's a ton!
Harvest hands down the best league for HC ever, I managed to do many bosses for the first time in that league and almost hit 100.
Ok, awesome intro, I'm making coffee to watch the rest 2:56
Enjoy, exile :)
Haven't missed a league since closed beta and don't intend to stop. Having two PoEs at the same time might finally burn me out though, after a few years.
11k hours of my life spent on this wonderful masterpiece of a game. ♥
Well done incredible video. A lot of work behind it.
Thanks a ton!
This surely was a trip down memory lane
Thanks! :)
My pleasure!
When you hear the history of updates it sounds like madness. But playing during that time it was just typical Path of Exile genius.
Same with Harvest, seems like it was a fun league.
i remember evr ysingle change untill abyss (pc was broken and i had a 3 yr pause)
dominus a long time for the most player bonecrushingly hard
there was no tutorial, rarely did anything explain itself egnough to truely deep dive
and now 4015,1 hours later im proud evrything durvived and enjoyed to have
what a journey ... and how big GGG's kid today is ... :)
i still have unpatched old items, 8 prophecy stones and maps from arroudn 18-20 leagues (1,5 k "only take out chests)
I haven't thought that you'll make all this story in one video)
That was nostalgic to see development of PoE, thanks and Tala Moana!
dude your content is awesome! keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Absolutely love it! Thanks for making this.
opening youtube - seeing a 50 min tri video and knowing this will be a nice one!
Edit: Have you ever seen the 1 hours presentation of chris wilson called: designing path of exile to be played forever? if not you totally have to watch it! its 5 years old now and i discovered it yesterday. very nice one!
One of the best things in my life is PoE lol, this game is something else. I have been there since the beginning and am very grateful
late to the part here.
Thanks for the recap, Ben!
I started during legacy which was perfect for me since I got to experience bits of the past league
Awesome video ❤
I only got to play the earlier years, from open beta to around the end of 2018. Then GGG updated the graphics(especially shadows and lighting) so much that my PC couldn't play the game anymore and I didn't get a new PC until about 8 months ago. Now I haven't played in so long and there is so much new shit it seems really hard to get back into and I'm thinking of just waiting for PoE2. I really wish I hadn't have missed out of the Atlas skill tree and being able to run the type of content you want though, hopefully it will be around in PoE2.
Hard agree! Thanks for watching, dude.
PoE is like Diablo2, a gem among thousand of RPGs, woo GGG 👍 👌
hardest working anime boy in the PoE community 🙏
great video. while i have almost 500 hours on this game i still consider myself a beginner because i cant wrap my mind around the game as a whole, but this kinda helped put it ina perspective for me
Thank you for another great video.
Thanks for watching!
Well, I've only played two leagues, so my least favorite is Crucible, and my Favorite is ancestor lol. Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else in the community in Affliction!
You need an expansion for that Christmas tree in the background lol.
Done, see my latest video!
@@TalkativeTri lol I will. I’ll even give the like button a merry Christmas high five.
