The way the guns fire is with an interruptor switch. When the propellor crosses in front of the guns, it hits the switch making sure the guns don't fire. They used those in ww2 as well.
You can adjust the sensitivity to any level you like. I use Free Track rather than TrackIR but they work exactly the same. To give an example, I have my tracking set so that if I move my head 15 degrees in real life it translates to roughly 3 times that much in game. In order to look behind me I'm not even turning my head 45 degrees to one side so no matter where you look in game, you are always able to keep a perfect view of your screen while playing.
I love this game. My friends and I play against each other, and we've had outstanding dogfights. We play on full realism, and some of the best moments we've had were from dogfighting until we ran out of fuel over No-Man's Land. Good times.
The planes in World War 1 did not have a timing mechanism for the machine guns. They just let the machine guns go through the propellor. At first there were several bullet holes in some propellors, but they could still work, but later on they made the propellors such that they deflect the bullets if they got hit by the bullets. The timing mechanism only came in later.
Actually, the S.P.A.D. XIII was incredibly strong. It was rumored during its use that the XIII could take the stress of a vertical dive and maintain structural integrity. However, because of the weight and rigidity of the aircraft, it wasn't as maneuverable as the Sopwith Snipe, or Camel.
You can buy the Iron Cross Edition "ICE Box" which comes with the two planes you get free plus seven other single-seaters and it's often on sale for $9.99. Alternatively, the RoF site has regular sales in which you can pick up single-seaters for $2.99. I've managed to stack my hangers with pretty much everything I want without paying full price for a plane. RoF is an excellent head-on collision simulator.
The one they have out now is just the dev-kit one, so people can start integrating it into games. So yeah, I meant the consumer version they're putting out further down the line. And honestly, I think 720p would probably look just fine on the small screens. 720p on my Galaxy S2's screen looks perfectly fine.
Wrong. Frenchman Roland Garros put deflector plates on his propellor in early 1915. When he and his plane came down within German lines, aircraft builder Anthony Fokker inspected it and came up with an interruptor gear, which he based on a pre-war French design. (So Fokker and his team didn't actually 'invent' it, either). Fokker E. I's and E.II's had the interruptor gear by late summer of 1915.
@SuburbanFox: Yes, TrackIR actually works. It's surprisingly easy to use, and most flight sims detect it and map its settings automatically. I can't really imagine using a flight sim without it, but the Oculus Rift may be even better.
I have never used any VR headsets aside from the Virtual Boy and some other tiger devices in the late 90's, but from what I hear, most headsets on the market are 420p, so not NEARLY as good as this new tech. So yes, 720p might be the best thing currently, but I am waiting for the absolute HD standard before I take that kinda plunge.
@boredandwise yoyr head movement to in-game movement isn't 1-to-1. You can set the sensitivity yourself so that it suits you and your monitor set-up and you can have fairly minor degrees of head movement change the view to look all the way behind you. It takes some playing to get things _just right_ but it's pretty intuitive.
A gun synchronizer was first used by the Imperial Germans in 1915. The Western allies began using them halfway through 1916. Every SPAD craft after the model VII used a gun synchronizer. I take that 1915 was your definition of "later" in the great war?
Question: How do you enable the thingy where if you see a plane It either appears as black(Too far) Red( Enemy ) and Blue (Friendly)? I really have a hard time playing this game without that...
Oh, man ... how on Earth did you get that special head-device you speak about in the beginning ? Did you buy it of build it yourself ? How much did it cost ? If you bought it, where was it for sale ? Is it still available now ? What is the minimal configuration for it to work properly ? I'm looking forward to get one of those.
TrackIR or Freetrack both work perfectly, though it will require 3 or 4 brain cells to construct an infrared setup for free track. TrackIR is plug and play but they charge far out the ass for very simple equipment you can make at home for 10% of the cost using directions from Free Tracks website.
this is based on il2 sturmivic..made by fans useing a version of the same game engine. : ) yes you can refuel and not forgeting you can also pick up more ammo
This is HILARIOUS! The flight crew compromises elements of the 3 Stooges and Cheech and Chong! Laughed me guts out ..... :) As an ex FS2004 pilot .... You put the fun beck into simming for me .... Ignore the serious comments .... Just enjoy this vid for what it is ..... FUN! :)
The French (all-time allied ace) "red baron" was rene fonk apparently he was a bit of a c**t. The British "red baron" was mick mannock who was blind in one eye. Both probably scored more than the red baron but due to the differences of being awarded a kill manfred got more confirmed (80) this is still argued/investigated today!
I paid the $50 for it at the store a couple of years ago and it came with about twenty planes or so. I love the game but I can't get any of the planes set up so I can fly them.
Actually, I don't believe you'd be doing any reloading in the air. What you might have been doing there was clearing a jam. I'm not toally sure, I never flew the Spads.
Just wondering, how does the TrackIR thing actually work? I'm thinking about getting one after watching this (because using the PoV hat on my joystick is difficult!), but one thing I always wondered was: when you turn your head to look behind you, how do you still see what's on the screen?
Had mine for many years. Works very good. You get a program for your track IR where you can config the different axis how sensitive they will be. Like when you turn your head to the corner on your monitor your virtual head will look backwards. You can also add sensitivity zones, meaning looking straight forward and making small head movements will give you precision forward and to the sides, and outside that view you can quickly turn to look behind you. This also works when looking up or down. So much to customize! Would really recommend to get one!
Personally if I had a choice between a joystick or a trackir I would take the trackir first. Simple because it works for alot of different types of games. FPS games like arma, flight sims, racing games ect. It is a bit pricy unfortunately, but compared to other high end simulator equipment it isn't that bad.
This is a little late, but in WW I planes the bombs were carried in the cockpit with the pilot and actually dropped by hand. The pilot would pick up a bomb(more like a modern day motor) and hold it over the side of the cockpit and literally drop it just before he flew over the target.
Hell yeah man, but I thinkw e should all wait for the 1080p version they are releasing next. The first one is not super HD, but ok. That is why the Personal 3D Viewer from Sony was not on my list cause it was only 720p.
Personally I can't stand flight sims anymore (not even the very arcade-y ones) but man, watching these guys play 'em and both horse around and try to actually accomplish something - It's great :) Gj, guys
You can buy it here www.g2a.com/rise-of-flight-channel-battles-edition-legendary-bombers-steam-cd-key-global.html on g2a.com (Well known company) for 79 cents (+ 1,00 for 100% safety if you want)
The way the guns fire is with an interruptor switch. When the propellor crosses in front of the guns, it hits the switch making sure the guns don't fire. They used those in ww2 as well.
Yes, since it has it's own InfraRed lights it uses to track the head movements.

40:04 hahaha that was the coolest thing ever.
'Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear' xD
I miss this crew..
That cockpit looks luxury as fuck

How can you look behind you with the track ir? Wouldn’t your head be turned away from the monitor?
You can buy the Iron Cross Edition "ICE Box" which comes with the two planes you get free plus seven other single-seaters and it's often on sale for $9.99. Alternatively, the RoF site has regular sales in which you can pick up single-seaters for $2.99.

Officially my fav quicklookers.
I grew up on Red Ace Squadron, and this game is just so goddam beautiful, I almost started crying!
The one they have out now is just the dev-kit one, so people can start integrating it into games.

When you bombed that ship second time it deserved a thumbs up! Nicely done old chap!
Vinny, Dave and Drew ARE IN THE DANGERZONE!

Really nice video. And some promotion for the TrackIR! Great!
For a free game, it looks great. The plane itself looks amazing.
@sigmundohi I thought it was some sort of bug or end of map at first. The scale of those trenches are staggering

ummm you do know that war thunder comes with a full aircraft control scheme where you can control the trim the prop angle and other things
You guys are beyond brilliant. Keep it up!
Great stuff , you guys make a tutorial fun and interesting , not the usual boring droning description of a game or general item. More of this please..
this is based on il2 sturmivic..made by fans useing a version of the same game engine. : ) yes you can refuel and not forgeting you can also pick up more ammo

All you need to quick-review now is Falcon BMS and you've got best sims covered
One of the most famous French aces was Georges Guynemer. FYI :P
are u using the trackIR 5 or 4 for head movement???
The French (all-time allied ace) "red baron" was rene fonk apparently he was a bit of a c**t. The British "red baron" was mick mannock who was blind in one eye. Both probably scored more than the red baron but due to the differences of being awarded a kill manfred got more confirmed (80) this is still argued/investigated today!
This TrackIR stuff is actually so cool. :o
Which Joystick do you recommend?
Used to love Red Orchestra, but no one's playing it anymore.
I paid the $50 for it at the store a couple of years ago and it came with about twenty planes or so. I love the game but I can't get any of the planes set up so I can fly them.
where do you download it??
Where can you get that hat your talking about?
Glorious.
Out of all the causes of death I could think of for WW1 pilots, I never thought "Shot in the Face" would be one of them.
Actually, I don't believe you'd be doing any reloading in the air. What you might have been doing there was clearing a jam. I'm not toally sure, I never flew the Spads.

I Don't have it yet but its a must for Flight Sim's Ive bin saving for one only con is you-haft to have a hat on.

True that. Even with mouse and keyboard, you could win over another player who's using a joystick just because situation awareness.
PantsuMann Yep, it's amazing the difference the ability to look into your turns makes to your flying.
can you use a mouse?
Rend fonck was the top French ace with 70 kills
Awesome ending! Good job again dave drew vinnie!
And that's a Pitot tube btw

These guys are my best discovery since I found out that peanut butter and chocolate are delicious together.
does it have 3nd person view? 1st person view is dizzy ... and sucks...
watch the hole video, it does and the 1st person view is dizzy because hes using a infrared motion sensor to his head.
Where do you get this?
that alby radiator was close lol
This was entertaining AND informative!
12:18
Pretty sure that was a Hunt for Red October reference.
Vinny making the "where yo curleh mustache at" joke never fails to make me laugh.
40:00 earned alike :) Looks like SO MUCH FUN!
Hell yeah man, but I thinkw e should all wait for the 1080p version they are releasing next. The first one is not super HD, but ok. That is why the Personal 3D Viewer from Sony was not on my list cause it was only 720p.
Daring Doo and Skipidy Doo-da-day were the greatest wingmen of all time.
he showed off the 3rd person view EARLY in this like right after takeoff
You weren't pushing the Spad too far.
The French ace was George Ginemair
Guynemer ....
