    Great stuff, and so clearly presented!
    One other option that's worth keeping in mind - the "cheat code" for a one-stroke drop out of the bunker... stroke-and-distance! It can be especially useful after a short approach, or even a chip, that's been mis-hit into a diabolical greenside bunker. In this case, for just ONE stroke, you can come back out and try again from the spot you just played from. It can be a good lifeline in that type of situation.
    Did this on Bethpage Black #18 on a day when bunkers were a major weak point (hadn't watched your bunker videos yet. Now I love bunker shots.). Great drive on the last hole, the kind that keeps you coming back for more. Pulled a wedge hard into a deep left bunker. Let out a big "NOPE" and dropped another one down to use that one-stroke, stroke-and-distance option.

    Unplayable relief under 19.3a would be two club length Lateral Relief not just the one club length that you illustrate. Also, whilst you mention the two PS option for dropping outside the bunker it might have been useful to also mention that for 1PS you could drop outside the bunker under S&D from where you played the last stroke, especially if this spot was only a short distance back from the bunker.

      For Unplayable Ball IN a Bunker, there are 4 Penalty Relief Options.
      1) Lateral Relief (2 Club Lengths Relief Area)
      2) Back On the Line Relief remaining INSIDE the Bunker (Drop on Line, with a 1 Club Length Circular RA.)
      And as with ALL BotL Relief, the Circular RA must be outside what would be the Lateral RA.
      3) Stroke and Distance Relief from where the Ball had been before hit into the Bunker.
      1, 2, and 3 are each 1 Penalty Stroke.
      The 4th Option is the Back On the Line OUTSIDE the Bunker, which is 1 Penalty Stroke for Unplayable Ball and a Second Penalty Stroke for Dropping OUTSIDE the Bunker.
      As for Measuring "Club Length(s)" the "Longest Club in the Bag, that is NOT a Putter" - MUST Be used.
      Since a Dropped Ball MUST Remain INSIDE the Relief Area, one cannot Shrink the RA by using a Shorter Club, because 2 Failed Drops then allows the Ball to be Placed.

    • @adrianturner2655
      @adrianturner2655 Місяць тому +1

      @@apaulmcdonough2170 Couple of things not quite right there. There is no requirement under the Rules to physically measure a Lateral Relief Area; the "longest club" (excdg putter) is purely a unit of measurement, e.g. say 46 inches, there is nothing in the Rules preventing you using a Wedge (measuring say 38 inches) as long as your drop stays within 92 inches of the Reference Point. Also, there is nothing in the Rules that requires your Reference Point (within the bunker) for a BOTL drop to be outside the 2 club lengths area that would otherwise be available under Lateral Relief.

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 Місяць тому

      @adrianturner2655 Check the Definitions of "Club Length" and "Relief Area".
      One only gets "92 inches" if one has a 46 Inch Club in the Bag.
      A Ball must stay INSIDE the Relief Area after being Dropped and coming to Rest.
      2 Failed Drops allows a Player to Place his Ball.
      Lateral Relief and Back On the Line Relief aren't interchangeable for a short distance Backwards.

    • @adrianturner2655
      @adrianturner2655 Місяць тому +1

      @@apaulmcdonough2170 I appreciate you are struggling to understand the nuances of these Rules so I'll try to help; firstly, remember there is no requirement under the Rules to physically measure any Relief Area, you can just go ahead and drop the ball. You made two emphatic statements "the longest club (excdg putter) MUST be used " and "you cannot shrink the relief area by using a shorter club" - those are both incorrect statements. If I wish to mark an area with my my jumbo length putter (56 inches long) or alternatively my Wedge (38 inches) and drop initially within either of those then I can do so - the Rules only require that I drop a ball within (in this case) a unit of measurement that equates to my two club lengths from the Reference Point, so, as I explained to you, if my driver is 46 inches long that gives me 92 inch semi circle not to drop outside of (or the dropped ball run out of) - please see the Definition of Club Length, which I previously quoted, "A club-length is a unit of measurement": With regard to BOTL, please quote me the Rule number which says that a player is excluded from taking BOTL relief within 2 lateral club lengths back from the location of the ball. Thanks.

      These will get tidied up by the Grounds Crew every so often.

    You talk about taking relief in the bunker under the unplayable ball rule and explain you are allowed 1 club length when taking lateral relief. I’m sure when taking lateral unplayable you are allowed 2 club lengths. Liking the content, just need to tighten up on the correct club length options so players new to the game are given the correct information.

      @ Hi Hannah, thanks for your reply. Not sure I fully understand what you mean by “1 if you are going back on line” Lateral relief for unplayable ball is 2 club lengths in any direction, no nearer the hole of course. If you are taking Back on Line relief you can go back as far as you like inside the bunker for 1SP or outside the bunker for 2SP but you must drop on the line you don’t get 1CL either side of that line anymore.

    As an older golfer, I'm 74 and recently added another 8kg,I've noticed that you seem to have lost weight (or is it the black clothes?). Has it changed your game one way or the other? It's not strictly a golf technique question but I'm thinking about trying diet to "improve" .

    Stupid /ignorant question …..loving these rules lessons while showing specific situations. Now the stupid question : is it safe to assume these are general worldwide rules applied no matter where one is playing? Meaning same in your part of the world as it is in mine (united states). As bad as golfer as i am ive always used a combination of rules i know to be so and a little common sense if im not sure. Which means i usually end being the only one in my group hitting from bad lies and never “fluffs” the ball . but i see it as why play the game if youre not following some set of rules ..i also somewhat see their point , to a certain extent . We are no where near pro level so why make the struggle harder than it already is ….to me if youre not following any games set of rules then why play it ?because your efforts will mean nothing in the end But im weird that way 😜

      @@LionelMessi-ct7tuSo I’m looking at the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf that I got from the USGA and R&A, which has all the clarifications, diagrams and everything you can think of. I found Diagram 19.3 on page 263 which shows 4 relief options for an unplayable ball in a bunker. They are for 1 penalty stroke for stroke and distance, 1 penalty stroke for back of the line relief within the bunker, 1 penalty stroke for lateral relief within the bunker, and 2 penalty strokes for back of the line relief outside the bunker.

    • @LionelMessi-ct7tu

      @ Thanks for that Mike, I fully understand that particular rule. My question is, if I’m in an unplayable lie in a bunker can I not take relief under another rule, i.e. the stroke and distance rule whereby I would only be penalised one shot. Hannah has advised that I must play by the bunker rule. I’m willing to accept that but the point I think I’m trying to make is that the rule book doesn’t specifically say “I can’t use the stroke and distance rule”. Thankfully I’ve managed to get to a 2.4 index without having to
      break this rule! Happy golfing.
