I could not be more thrilled for you Andrew. The latest VR game jam has me feeling the same way. You've been such a tremendous help to the VR community and I cannot wait to see what you cook up while pursuing a game that you want to make!
Thanks, Shrimp! Glad you could participate in the jam. :) It's been a long time coming, and I've thought about it a lot. So, I'm hoping I have something to show for it all.
Looking forward to your new project! Can totally relate with everything you said 👍 esp. the part of going back to the childhood and looking for something to "remake" for getting new energy and inspiration! ☺
@@VRwithAndrew I feel you! I often end up implementing a few cool features, but never finish the project itself. Most of my uploaded videos are features of various game ideas that will never be finished 😅
You GOT THIS!!!!!! I subscribed recently but sometimes watch your videos when I get stuck with Unity's Interaction Toolkit, and you are AWESOME. Take your time and enjoy your process. 😊
I feel your pain, you've just described my current "funk" to a Tee. I was hoping the VR Game Jam would kick me out of it, but ive just sunk back into it.
It's hard! It comes, and goes for me. As of right now, I'm trying to switch up the daily routine. I spend wayyy too much time in my office working, and playing games.
Good luck, looking forward to follow your journey! How about a village on a mountain where rain is the only power source and you have to make the best of it while it goes downstream :-)
I understand exactly how you feel Andrew! I use to feel so motivated to work on my own projects all the time. Until I started working for an indie company to help develop their own VR game. Now it's coming to the end of my contract and I'm trying to get into the swing of things again. But whatever I try to create always seems to just end up in the bin or abandoned. I wish you luck on this project and hopefully it gets out of the prototyping stage 🤞
Exactly, I'm still trying to find the balance between the different types of work. I think I'll be able to get through the early stages of development. But, we'll see! I'm trying to avoid some of the more fun parts, and try to spread that out.
The loop you've described really resonates with me. I thought it was burnout and I've been considering a career change. I know these aren't solutions to the core problem.
I'm glad you've made this video and that you're comfortable enough with talking about how these things can feel. I've told my wife many times that I wish for a line of work that is more straightforward, like a carpenter or perhaps someone who builds homes. I've said this in a joking manner, but at times I know she knew there was a seriousness underpinning my words. She usually responds with the idea of sunk cost. I've spent 16 years doing this and have built up a wide array of skills and knowledge. Even with that accumulation of institutional knowledge if I feel I have creative block or I'm not feeling the joy in what I'm doing, it's all for naught. I always fall back on game development because I do love creating things and telling stories. I'm at a point where I wonder if filmmaking would bring me more creative fulfillment, but I'm hesitant to enter another industry that is rife with instability. Anyways I'm glad you're here and I'm glad you're talking about these things and facing them. I'm trying to do the same. Listening to your struggles and visualizing that in the day to day was like looking into a mirror.
@@JamesArndt It's taken me a long time to "be myself/authentic," and I'm still trying to improve at it. Like, I eventually want to be able to turn on the camera and talk as if it's with a close friend. I also consider a different career entirely, but I really enjoy this line of work and the conveniences it offers. However, the creative block or lack of joy sometimes has driven me to try other things, as you've described. My current solution is to try other hobbies and weave them into videos. I want to show my life and the creative things I want to do, including game development. That said, my biggest obstacle has been my mental health, which is something I'm still figuring out. But thanks for taking the time to write this. As you can imagine, I was pretty apprehensive about making a video/series like this. So, words like this make it worthwhile.
Hey man! Great video, restarting a game development journey must be rough, but everything looks good so far! I would love to talk about how I can contribute to the growth and promotion of your upcoming game, you seem like a very talented person!
"At times I was trying to be relevant or popular." And now you are making a cozy game, arguably the most "it" genre of 2023. So just pointing out that you are again wading into the "popular" waters and might feel constrained to the whims of the masses. Just a small observation from a big fan.
The distinction to be made is that this is the type of game I want to make. A lot of my previous projects or videos were mostly focused on making UA-cam content. The statement is largely tied to my previous attempt at making devlogs on a VR Shooter project. Unfortunately, that approach, for me, wasn't sustainable.
Love this new beginning!! Been thinking some of the same things lately.
Thanks, Justin! It's tough, but I would highly recommend it.

Super excited about this new adventure Andrew !
Thank you as always, Valem! :)
It's so hard being vulnerable and putting everything out there, but it's essential as a creative. Happy to see you going down this new path =D
It's a difficult process, but I'm trying my best. :)
Glad to see you are back! Excited to see whats next in the devlog
Thanks, Ringo!

Yeah, I'm hoping it gives me a bit more to work with. Unfortunately, a cool idea on it's own isn't enough to get me through a project.

Thanks, man! I look forward to both of our progress. :)
Wishing you the best of luck Andrew!

collecting rainwater sounds interesting, keen to see what this will evolve into. all the best!
Thank you, hopefully it works out!
I just realized the channel changed from VR with Andrew to Andrew. I'm all for it. Excited to see what you come with!
Much appreciated! I may do some VR stuff again, but I'm taking a bit of a break.
Best of luck to you in your next adventure!

Thanks, Pico! I hope you've been doing well.
You've given us such a great foundation
I'm excited for what you are going to build!
Much appreciated, Ian! I thing this is the strongest foundation I've had for a project so far. And, the most reasonably scoped. :P
I had Unity open as that crash error appeared and it got me lmao. Fantastic videos and channel
Ahaha, much appreciated, Joshua!

It's such a ways off! But you can always join Discord and share any thoughts you have. :)
@@VRwithAndrew I sent you an invite!
What's your camera setup? You've always got great looking vids!
Nothing crazy! I have an entry level camera, couple of soft box lights. I also make sure to take advantage of natural light.
Unity bug is terrifying.
Hey Can I make a vr with unity if yes plss tell how can I do it
Yeah, you can look into my XR Toolkit Crash Course video.
Story of my life.
And we keep sailing, Captain
If you want, we can develop games together.
Thanks for the offer! I'm trying to mostly work alone at the moment. If you like, you can still join the Discord and share what we're working on. :)
