Wow! Your visual lesson is the first that resonated with me. My handicap has dropped 5 strokes in in six weeks. However, shifting weight to the left as you demonstrate in this video cannot involve moving the head to the left. One must be centered in the upper body and shift the weight to the left in the lower body or bad things happen. At age 72, I'm on my way back to a five handicap - thanks to your great lesson!

I did this drill for 2 months just about every night in my house/at the range and it’s helped my swing become way more consistent I’m terms of distance and striking. When you gave the example of the hands coming over the top due to not enough rotation I was like “yup that’s me.” Great content man, appreciate it!

Ive been hitting shots fat for 50 years. I watched your awesome video and moved my weight to my left foot and hit 98 out of 100 solid never touching the mat until after ball contact. I’m forever in your debt. Thank you you have gotten me back into golf after a 20 year lay off. John from Indian trail NC.

Good job man. Ah, the good ol days of slicing into oblivion every drive when I had only been playing a year. Lol. That was back before the days of UA-cam for me. I envy yall learning the game now because you have so much awesome information at your disposal. I just hacked and slashed at it until I figured something out. I finally started getting a little better back then when I made the firm decision to do the exact opposite of everything I was currently doing. I've made the biggest strides in my game in the last 4 or 5 years since I've gotten a smart phone and all. Best of luck in your golf journey and NEVER give up.

I agree, this is my favorite channel to watch to try to learn. I also like Mr Short Game golf just for his humor. But yes, Clay and crew do a great job for beginners like us, as well as for good players, too, certainly. I am about 2 years into picking up golf and shoot from 88-95 given the day and conditions, trying my best to get better but its very hard! Such a great sport. Congrats on your 95!

Clay leaves out TWO extremely important parts of this swing drill. Unless I missed it. One, DO NOT allow your left heel (for a right hander) to come off the ground! Two, as you transition from the top of your swing, you MUST straighten the left leg so you can properly follow through on the target line! If you watch his swing, you will see what I mean. Check out 1:23 to 1:45 in slow motion.

Hi Clay, we have spoken before in the past. I am the guy who tried to recruit you to move your operations to Calgary, Alberta. You were clear and declined the offer...lol. I would like to say my ball striking has improved drastically, thanks to you. I am consistently hitting all clubs pure, and my distance is mind-boggling. However, I have one issue. My driver has improved a lot. It still needs work. What am I doing when the ball hits the ground three to six inches ahead of the tee? It rolls out maybe 20 yards. Does that indicate I am chopping down on the ball? Is my downswing plain too high? Please note that my driving has improved 60 to 70%. No slice or hook. I average 270+ yards. So I can't complain. My Fairway 3 wood and Putter are my favorite clubs. Again, thank you very much for your videos. They have helped a lot.

Couple this with an elbows together or tour striker ball. For some reason I was behind and stalling. Once I tucked that right elbow more it was perfect. It feels like you have all the room in the world when it's right. This has become part of my warm up and I'm puring it!!

I have played for many years and at one time held a single digit hdcp.I still have pretty good flexibility, however, the golf club (irons in particular) no longer feel comfortable,to hold or swing.
As a result my grip feel wrong,my stance seems wrong, alinement is wrong…you get the picture anything you can suggest to get IT back to my old self.? This is about making me sick? This is not all the time but frequently, enough to be a pain and not trust the swing.
I live in the Midwest and winters are tough to get back in shape but this is something else!

I know this is a little off topic here, but I just wanted to say that everyone, especially people who live in the city and anyone who doesn't have one of those expensive screens to hit balls into, should pick up some of those foam practice balls they have at places like Walmart. Callaway makes some awesome ones. I'm telling you, these things fly almost exactly like a real ball. You can fade them, draw them, knock em down, and nearly eany other shot you can think of. Best of all, you won't destroy anything with them. I hit them from my front yard, down to the church yard, and go hit em back to my yard. I do this at least once nearly every day and since I started doing it, my ball striking has gotten sooo much better. You don't feel off center hits as much and that's about the only downside. They go probably half the distance of a real ball. They are so great for practicing and practicing at home a lot is how you get better. I mean, I just can't afford to be going and playing golf every day, so hitting those practice balls is the best way for me to improve. The plastic ones are good too, but they don't fly as good and you end up busting them in half eventually. They are cheaper though and I like hitting short game shots with them. I keep some of both kinds.

  • @Kazyman

As much as I've always loved & admired CB for all he does for the avid Weekend Warriors, I have to set straight a factor almost never is revealed: Height makes a difference as per the tilt of a golfer, hence ... the shorter golfer ( such as myself at 5' 7") will swing significantly flatter than someone the height of Clay, who I estimate to be about 6' 2." That said ... the same angle CAN be obtained ( left shoulder looking downward at the golf ball at impact & the right shoulder upward, with the opposite action happening during the downswing ), if and ONLY IF we lop the necessary inches off our club shafts as per what our height is, BUT ... we shorter folk lose out yet again because we would then generate less club head speed as a result of a more limited arc. Height rules all sports except horse racing. Bummer for us.😐

Great vid Clay. I know you're focusing on the downswing action, but you skip over where it all goes wrong for most amateurs. You get to "halfway back" with the greatest of ease. Find me a high handy that is able to get there without getting the club too deep behind their bodies. If we can't get to the start of this drill correctly..does the drill still work?

Great video. I have noticed that about 30 to 40 percent of my approach shots are on target or slightly right of target with good contact (10 handicap). The other shots are left due to draws. Would you look more at the swing plane or a grip change?

I would look at face control. At hcp 10, you should be able to control your clubface... If you consistantly draw it, do 1 of 2 things:
      1) stop rotating your writsts so much.
      2) aim more right!

he says it right at the beginning...you have to shift your weight left. that may be the solution to eliminating chunks completely. unless there are other factors causing you to chunk in which case the weight shift will still help but not totally solve your chunking.
