Hello and welcome to Home Free ! Missy you will have a great time exploring their catalog of amazing songs. These guys are amazing, and are masters of their craft. Check out several of their new songs....from a couple of weeks ago they did a beautiful cover of Lonestar's mega-hit from 1999, Amazed and a couple of weeks before did a LIVE cover of their own original doing it not acapella but with their friends Texas Hill and it's a masterpeice of country-blues....you'll also get to hear their sound live. They also had that concert at the Ryman in Nashville.

You may not know this yet but you just stumbled on to the best a capella group out there in my opinion that is they all have amazing Voice and ranges Tim Foust the bass has a 5 octave range Adam Chance the baritone has a 4 octave range Rob Lundquist has sweet tenor voice known as gospel Rob and the high tenor Austin Brown a lot of woman that I know call him the panty dropper and Adam Rupp the beat boxer well I think he ate a drum kit. Tim was in Rockapella several years ago. Home Free is my favorite acapella group too. The can do it all. With Time being able to hit a G0 all the way up to, well I'm not sure how high his falsetto goes. The other four singers are equally as talented. Which leaves Adam Rupp, the beat boxer. Sorry to break it to everybody, but I'm not sure he's from this planet, or is part robot, or I'm not just sure what. Just when you think you've heard everything from him, BAM, he smacks you upside the head with another brilliant ability. Love these guys to death! Great reaction

Austin Brown, the lead for this song, has a musical theater background. In fact, he was part of the entertainment crew when Home Free was hired as guest entertainment on a (Disney?) cruise ship. A Georgia native, he'd had to lose his Southern accent for that job. When he had a chance to join HF not too long after that it was under the stipulation that he get that accent back. (That's one of my favorite stories they tell on themselves.) You can hear that musical theater schooling utilized in his rendition of Bring Him Home from Les Miz he dropped a couple weeks ago.
Tim Foust has about a 5 and a half octave range. This is shown in Mayday, which you don't touch until you learn everyone's names and vocal ranges. His ability to go low enough to blow out speakers is shown in the half-hour video Home Free Concert Morrison, IL 8/19/15. This was before Chris Rupp left and Chance (jews harp here) joined. He's the one in the cowboy hat. He and his brother Adam (beatboxer) formed the group in 2000. Check out HF's drum solo for the rang of his talent. Most of the songs they have vids for have multiple version -- official, stage, and fan recorded -- so songs from the Morrison video can be found in several videos.
Some of their songs are written by them. Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget and Full of Cheer (Tim), and What Christmas Means to me (Austin) for starters. Enjoy! And welcome to the HF rabbit hole the climbing of you sub numbers. the deeper you go the more treasure you'll find.

Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. It's awesome down here. Adam Rupp the beat Boxer, is the best there is. I call him my Beast Boxer 😎. I think he swallowed an orchestra when he was younger, there's not much he can't "play" Tim the bass has a 5 octave range, that without his sub basses and his falsetto, which is awesome. The lead, Austin is a high tenor, you should listen to him sing " bring him home" Rob the one with the glasses is a tenor, such a sweet, sweet voice. Chance is a bass/baritone, if you watch more ( which I'm sure you will ) you see he sometimes swops with Tim, when Tim's singing lead, he'll do the bass lines, which he's awesome at. Adam doesn't use a real harmonica, he has no need, with his awesome talent. He also sings, he has a sweet tenor voice. Watch "How Great Thou Art" and "little Saint nick" love him to pieces. 🥰🥰

Adam Rupp, VP extraordinaire, has improved his "no-monica". Check out Workin' for a Living for his solo. For a taste of that bass Tim Foust, check out Brothers in Arms. For the sky-high tenor Austin Brown, When A Man Loves A Woman. Sweet tenor Rob Lunquist, End of the Road. And silky baritone Adam Chance (Chance), Cover MeUp. There is no lead singer, per se; all 4 sing lead, as appropriate for the song. (And often they'll share a lead.) HF is a deep rabbit hole!

  • @martinhafner2201
    @martinhafner2201 2 роки тому +14

Excellent reaction! It's also great that you really appreciate the quality of Adam Rupp's "harmonica" work. He and Austin Brown (main lead in this song) have done a harmonica duet on tour. Adam Rupp has done drum solos with just a mike on tour also. I assume he uses a slightly tweaked EQ and probably special echo and compression settings.
They do some excellent traditional songs like How Great Thou Art (5 part, no percussion) and a bunch of country-ish songs like Dive Bar Saints, Moonshine and Take Me Home Country Roads.
Some classics : Ring Of Fire, Crazy and When A Man Loves A Woman.
Military tributes (have the kleenex on hand) : Travelin' Soldier, Go Rest High On That Mountain and Brothers In Arms (5 part).
They did a tik-tok inspired Sea Shanty Medley that is crisp and full.
And they did the 50 year remake of American Pie with Don Mclean!

    • @patriciamcl54
      @patriciamcl54 2 роки тому

Just a note - Brothers in Arms is not really a military tribute. It's actually an anti-war song and if there is a tribute, it is to the soldiers as people and not as part of the military complex.
I didn't take to most of their most recent album, Land of the Free, because as a non-American and anti-war activist, it sounded nationalistic to me. Which I know is not the guys' view but i suppose they have to keep the clientele happy!

They are mostly country but sing all genres of music and while they sing a lot of covers they also write and sing their own songs. The beatboxer is amazing and can do drums, harmonica, castanets and lots of other sounds. The mouth harp sound at the beginning and end was done by Chance (in the back row with short dark beard). Maybe you do loved nextdoor to one of them. The first lead here, high tenor Austin Brown, as well as the bass singer, Tim Foust, live in the Nashville area. They both do solo work very worth checking out, to be found on their respective UA-cam channels. Austin especially has remarkable breath and voice control, and Tim has a 5 ocurre range, going on 6. Adam Chance (goes by Chance), the baritone who did the jaw harp also has a few solo songs on his channel. He's got a 4+ octive range.
Rob Lundquist, the lead tenor, has the smoothest and softest voice I've ever hear, but it's so adorable to various genres and when he goes off all soulful and gritty it's glorious. Adam Rupp, the vocal percussionist, is simply a freak of nature with his skills.
These guys are some of the hardest working, most humble, most cherished artists of today. Over the last 7,5 years they've released at least one video every month, with only a couple of exceptions of months with no video, and from April 2020 until late summer 2021 they released two videos every month. As they live in different parts of the country they did most of the recording as well as filming in their homes, separately.
These guys are impressive for all many reasons and many, many lives around the world have been saved simply by finding their music. True facts.
The fans are called the Home Fries and we are known as dedicated, loyal and supportive in the music industry and the guys love us just as much as we love them, maybe even more of that's possible.
I've subscribed, hoping to go down this rabbit hole with you.
To hear more of Austin check out When a Man Loves a Woman, for more Rob check out End of the Road, for more Chance check out Castle on the Hill, for more Tim check out In the Blood, and for more Adam check out a live solo from last year.
These guys have collaborated with a bunch of well-known artists including Kenny Rogers on his last Christmas album, Don McLean on his second ever studio recording of American Pie, The Oak Ridge Boys on Elvira and with Alabama on Christmas in Dixie to name a few.
    Thanks for the reaction! 🥰🙏

Missy, great reaction. New subscriber here, glad you came up on my suggestions (for our girl Diana Ankudinova). 😊 I've listened to a lot of Home Free (led there by Pentatonix, another a capella group). Reading down through the comments nobody has suggested Ring of Fire, where a former Pentatonix bass, Avi Kaplan, collaborates. So you have TWO basses in that song! 😲 That's one of my Home Free faves. Another one, though New Year has come and gone, is Home Free's version of Auld Lang Syne. Just some really pretty, rich harmonies in that one and everyone sings ... no beat boxing. Those two songs are what I would suggest.

Your analysis was interesting it's nice to hear from someone who has a more informed opinion. I hope you do more of their catalog. I'm sure you'll see requests for "How Great Thou Art" "Helplessly HOping" "Mayday" and my favorite from last year's Christmas Season "Mary did you know" as well as many others. It's hard to go wrong with any of their songs.

How to make a harmonic sound. Remember the wa wa wa at the end of a bad joke if you make that sound tightening the throat up and down you change the pitch use the hands as a sound box, I used to do this as a child in the end my dad bought me a spittle trap oh and Adam Chance played a good mouth harp

Ben Folds says Tim (the bass) sounds like the bass guitar jumped off the wall and started to talk, Adam Rupp the call the Freak Of Nature because that he can do as a beat boxer. There live stuff is super good. Church sessions are great. Or the London Aucella Festival

I love that you busted out the harmonica to play to compare it. Great review. Funny enough this is a fairly average Home Free song as I soon found out when I down the rabbit hole and became a "Home fry" The bass in this song has a 5 octive range...

The only "cheating" done is in the layering. Live, Adam (the vocal percussionist) does use a looper if needed but still makes all the noises himself.

Love the red Fender Esquire over your left shoulder! After his solo, the bass, Tim Foust, actually drops an octave and hits an F1 in chest. Throughout his solo part, he is hanging out in the 2nd octave. He has a massive (nearly) 5 octave range of B0-A5.

There are three, what I would call, main acapella groups today. Most everyone knows of Pentatonix, of course. They were the poster children for acapella for some time. The second, you have just found: Home Free. Wonderful group, I love their sound and their personalities, which seem to shine through in every performance they give. And last, buy by no means least, Voice Play. They are the theater kids of acapella. And, they have another amazing bass singer in their group as well, Geoff Castelucci. Much like Time Foust of Home Free, he also has a 5 octave range, and loves to show it off. To that end, you should check out Fulsome Prison Blues by Home Free. That will showcase Tim's lower end. And, to hear his higher register, check out Mayday.
For Voice Play most everyone would direct you to Oogie Boogie's song from the Nightmare Before Christmas cover they did. *I*, however, wouldn't do that. I would ask that you check out If I Were A Rich Man/Girl from Fiddler on the Roof. It's not as theatrical, no costumes or makeup involved, but I think it shows everyone's range and sense of fun a bit better. You also get to see the members of that group interacting with a guest singer.
And, Pentatonix. Ah, where to start with Pentatonix? I would suggest Blinding Lights by the Weekend. I think that one shows them in their best light. It's fun, upbeat, and the way THEY perform it, has great harmonies in it.
If you're familiar with any of these groups already, I apologize for giving you information you already know. But, as you probably already know, you've entered into a world with some seriously PASSIONATE fans. Lol.
    Welcome to the rabbit hole.

I think you missed that octave drop at the end of Tim’s (the bass) solo, and he was really low on the fade-out. Yes, that was all Adam Rupp. You can check out some of his live drum solos on UA-cam

Great reaction! Home Free is great. Adam Rupp, the percussionist has action world beatboxing contests. Their songs range from hilarious (Butts Medley, All about that Bass, etc) to mainstream (Mayday, Amazed, etc) to gospel/religious (How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace). Tim Foust, the bass, can go much lower. And MUCH MUCH higher. His range is unbelievable. Would love to see you react to more a cappella with Home Free and Pentatonix.

If you like Tim Foust's base in this song, try out Home Free's cover of "Ring Of Fire" and "Folsom Prison Blues."
By the way, Adam Chance is the newest member of the group, and the one that emulates the Mouth Harp/Jaw Harp/Jew's Harp (depending on what you know the name of that instrument is). It's Adam Rupp that's the Beatboxer with the magical invisible harmonica.

They definitely played up the country here. And yes, Austin can yodel. You see it more in their cover of "All About That Bass."
Home Free's ability to cover rap, R&B, jazz, country, pop, etc is unreal. And yes, their bass has an incredible 5 octave range (see same for VoicePlay's bass and Pentatonix's former bass and current baritone). That range let's Tim often carry the lead, which their new bass/baritone helps anchor by carrying the low end in his absence.

Three Acapella groups were on a tv show, "Sing-Off".
    Pentatonix
    Home Free
    VoicePlay
I believe Pentatonix won the first year and Home Free the second season.
All three have deep rabbit holes of songs & info to explore. Home Free bass is Tim Foust, PTX bass was Avi Kaplan, VoicePlay bass is Geoff, (Jeff) Castellucci.
Please check out Home Free's cover of Johnny Cash's song " Ring Of Fire", featuring Avi Kaplan former Bass singer of Pentatonix.
    It's fantastic!

Sing through your nose and do "Wah Wah" motions with your mouth and you should get a pretty good Harmonica. You control the "Wah Wah" motions and you control tone.
