  • Join Bob and Chris as they give a bottom-to-top walking tour of an historic 3-story home in Palatka, Florida. Built in the Queen Ann style, the Loeb-Hilburn house is one of only two homes in the North Historic District that still have their original carriage steps. The 1886 house may sag in places, but it’s woodwork and craftsmanship tell a story of the prominent family that once lived in this noble residence.
Be sure to watch the first video, Digging an 1886 Carriage House Bottle Dump, where rare and colorful pre-1915 bottles are recovered.
As always, thank you for watching…Bob H. Lee.

Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching. My plan is to offer some variety, not just dig bottles or metal detect. Right now I’m working on one for cat-faced pine trees which are totem’s to the long ago turpentine industry.

As a great grandson of Marcus and Lena, I especially appreciate this walking tour. My mother had great memories of them, as they were an important part of her life. Bob and Chris, thanks for this opportunity!

      Hi Joe,
This is a surprise and a real treat. So glad you liked the video. How did you become aware of it? Also, Palatka’s Historian, Larry Beaton, wanted to know if there are photos of the house or of Marcus Loeb or his family that he could use…for presentation purposes and further documentation of the town’s history. We are aware of some on the internet, but they don’t appear to be copyright free. Thank you so much for your kind comments.

@@relicrescueusa3803 You asked me on Geni.com for permission to use the pictures there. If Larry would like to contact me there, I will be happy to send him pictures and information.

Joe, I must have missed your reply…or I would have used them. I’m very aware of copyright issues. I’ll send this along to Larry. He’ll be tickled. Many thanks, Bob Lee

@@LoebFamily01 Hi Joe, I spoke with Larry a little while ago. He’s neck deep in research for the city. He said he does not have any photos of the Loeb family or home from the turn of the century. However, he wanted to know if you had any photos of the home from around 1900? Also, is it a problem if either one of us uses photos of Marcus or Lena Loeb for future presentations, UA-cam, etc. I don’t see where I would need them but one never knows and now that I have the opportunity, I thought I would ask. Thanks

This is a change. Instead of digging rare bottles behind this historic home, Chris and I give you a bottom-to-top walking tour inside the 3-story house. And if you haven’t seen Part 1 in this series, please checkout Digging an 1886 Carriage House Bottle Dump. As always, thank you for watching.

Thank you for this! Made my first trip to Palatka yesterday and ironically, stumbled upon this house and took photos. So glad to discover someone is committed to restoring it! Such beautiful homes and downtown buildings. I will definitely be back to explore more.

I am enjoying all your videos and love history and historical homes. I also enjoy your bottle and metal detecting video. I follow a lot of chateau videos from France and heard on one of the videos that often on the kitchen fireplaces prior to marriage a husbands family would do half of the fireplace and the wife’s family would do the other half to join the families. That is a beautiful chandeliers.

Hi Michele, and thank you so much for your interesting insight on this video. I really don’t know much about old homes. But I’m also a firm believer that when one gets a rare opportunity like this, they’re better seize it. I’m going to share your comment with Larry Beaton, historian in the video, to see if he’s ever heard of splitting the duties on fireplace design.

FYI-Checked with Larry. He was aware of the fireplace husband/wife build out. But then, Larry is the historian, so I guess he would.

I'm glad the owner gave you the ok to film the interior of this home. I've been fascinated by it ever since I saw it the first time while driving around admiring Palatka's historic downtown. Is it the owner's intention to restore it? (I hope)

    • @relicrescueusa3803

Hello Jaye, Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. As I understand it, the owner plans to do a complete renovation. There was roof damage as a result of the last hurricane and that has yet to be settled. He hopes to move forward with the roof first and then go from there. He has the expertise and access to the right people. I hope it works out for him as it would be a beautiful finished product for the north historic district.
