Well, Marvin Gaye's father got what he wanted. His wife divorced him. She bailed him out of jail, but he wasn't allowed to go to marvin's funeral. But he was living in the state of california and He was banned from owning a Gun and and he was banned from every liquor store and bar in the state of California and he was forced to move into a nursing home until his death In 1998.

It has a lot to do with the hold on releasing the rights to his music. A couple of years ago, a stage play called "My Brother Marvin" came out ( Keith Washington as Marvin) but the family didn't relinquish the rights to use his songs, which took away from the whole concept. The same things happened with the Whitney Houston movie and the Aalyiah movie.

My name is Valarie Scott. I remember the day that Marvin Gaye was announced that he had passed away. I was in a Chinese Restaurant, getting ready to order my food. The Television was playing and everyone in there heard the announcement too. We all looked at the TV for a brief moment of silence. I ordered a bowl of Beef fried rice that day. That sad moment etched in my memory since 1984.

But Diana never had to break sweat, totally natural and addictive voice.

Sadly they never actually performed a live duet together that was recorded on tape. They recorded their vocals at different times for the 1973 Diana & Marvin album as Marvin was constantly smoking dope in the studio and Diana was pregnant at the time.

Marvin Gaye was a “ Cool Operator” he had that Unique Swag about him. And his Music will linger on forever. He was before his time, especially when he wrote and sung “ What’s Going On”. He could sing the best duets with Tammy Terrell and Diane Ross. And the best Solo Singer.
