I can't think of a boxing noir movie without thinking of the "Dynamite Hands" sequence of the 1978 Stanley Donen movie, MOVIE MOVIE. I want the MARIE ROGET movie but, were it not in the boxed set I would probably file it with the Universal Horrors, because of the Poe aspect. Thought I had read that it was originally put out there with one of the Universal Shock packages, with the monsters and the Inner Sanctums.
Exactly, Marie Roget feels like it belongs on a mystery/thriller/horror set, not a crime set. It's a pseudo-sequel to Murders in the Rue Morgue, and that's more of a chiller than a noir to me. However, after hearing Max talk about it, I'm second-guessing myself a little bit. Maybe it belongs in both places at once. I think my expectations threw me off a bit. I'm grateful it's on disc and it looks very good on Blu-ray.
Oh yes I have, since you love Gene Autry so much, I went back to Savers in Manchester and picked up the boxset of 12 even rarer Gene Autry movies, you'll be receiving it in about 7 - 12 work days. If you have a VCR or combo player in storage, dust it off, you'll be using it again. I also included some extra impossible to find westerns. I'm letting you know since I forgot to include a note. Even if you don't have anything to play VHS tapes with currently, the boxset will make a great conversation piece.
Love these sets!! I own them all. You're one set behind, Heath. Volume XVII is now out: Vice Squad, Black Tuesday, & Nightmare, all Eddy G Robinson classics.
I've never heard of any of these films or have seen them, were they famous films I just didn't know existed or are they underground films where not a lot of people would know about them?
Film history has traditionally been less than weak on the primacy of the writer, so I'm glad people like Max remind us about that.
Max Allan Collins is a great guest! Thanks, Heath!
Frichek: Could I get a video going more in depth on Noir?
Heath: Hold my snubnosed revolver.
10/10 fricheks
:)
Nice conversation. Got me looking for that 1930s "Glass Key"!
It’s fun listening to you two talk about film history. I feel like the student watching two professors.
I'm in awe of Max's knowledge and experience, but I appreciate those kind words, Devon!
Another fantastic episode, Heath! Such great chemistry that you have with Max. Looking forward to your Top 5 noir rankings!
I hope max is a regular! 👌🏽
Film Noir or Film Noir adjacent Kino is knocking it out of the park

February 27th, Mike! My copy should be here a little early, hopefully.
OMG!! I just saw that they even have set XVIII coming out: City of Shadows; Crashout; and Finger Man (all 1955). Are these sets ever going to end?😅
Very interesting chat, gents! Thanks!

None official DVD version of the 1931 iron man is available on the internet
Could you two do one of these a week?
IRON MAN (1931) is complete on UA-cam
Any thoughts on Darren McGavin as Mike Hammer?
I like McGavin, but he always brings a sense of whimsy to his work that slightly undercuts the coldness of Mike Hammer.
Still don’t know if these Kino film noir sets are right for me…
