finally a non clickbaity title. why dude? I'm surprised this wasnt titled THE NUMBER ONE ULTIMATE GODLIKE BEST MAGE SPEC IN LEGION, with a thumbnail of Jaina fuckin bent over a full 90 degrees in a thong as she fires up a frostbolt for casting.
players have this complex where if they just pick the perfect class/spec their problems will be solved. As long as it isn't complete shit just play what you think is fun. Make it work and you'll win games.
been a combat rogue for 3 years swapped to sub because its just hella fun to jump around like crazy and do huge amounts of bursts only got my prepatch experience though
I hate people like you. People want to play a strong class. Running around yelling "PLAY WHAT'S FUN PLAY WHAT YOU LIKE DAMAGE IS JUST A NUMBER" Many people only enjoy playing games if they're using a strong or at the least a decent class. Playing a weak class makes people quit because it's boring.
benblue3 but.. sub rogue is considered the worst rogue spec in PVE atm I still deal the most dmg most of the times you need to be able to play your class which comes with having fun with it
Lovely Video! Apologies for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Proutklarton Favourite Game Plan (just google it)? It is a great one off product for Becoming a Gold Making Tycoon In World of Warcraft minus the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my old buddy Taylor got amazing success with it.
Arcane was actually only at 2 secs prior to the Frostbolt/Fireball cast time down to that speed, and it also got faster the more you cast it, so it wasn't slow. Frost was 2.5secs w/talents pre-BC and Fireball was 3.5secs pre-BC w/out talents (3.0secs with).
i feel like i got almost nothing from this video. you didn't answer your question "which is better?". while i know there may not be 1 true answer, i feel like all you did was show their rotations. can you maybe expound on advantages/disadvantages aside from "fire has insta casts, so thats cool"? i'd really like to know how their damage compares to other classes/specs (burst/sustained), what benefits each spec has, which YOU think is going to be best for 2v2, 3v3, rbg, pve, etc. thanks!
frost in my option dose more damage then fire it all comes down to skill tho fire helps hit multiple targets frost dose more damage and you get a frost shield to take more damage wile you attack
+Stephin Shepard both classes have ice barrier, and fire isn't really cleave damage except for flamestrike, db, and ignite spreads, which isn't the majority of their damage.. from what I can tell, the only thing that would make frost have higher survivability is their targeted Nova talent, and pet Nova, except you have to use them for damage if you want to hit hard. it seems to me that frost has a bugger burst but has cast times, while fire has higher sustained and can cast while moving with more insta casts. I'd love to get toonz opinions though.
Cartoonz did say the choice is up to you to decide and that he will show you the aspects of both and how they play in arena in the beginning of the video(: They are both good. Play what you want and make it work with good team compositions!
Q: Which is better? A: The choice is up to you. That doesn't really make sense. If the Q were "which should I play?" then that would make more sense. When posing a questions of "which is better" you'd think at least we could lay out the pros and cons of each, or which situations they are better in.
+misterp543 You're right, cartoonz doesn't directly answer the posed question. Instead, he answers rhetorically. How did he not answer ANY of the questions you brought up in your last reply. He states in the video what spec works against/with certain comps and the situations in which they excel at. If you want to nit pick, go try it out yourself
Hey Cartoonz, would you please do a comprehensive recap on how to maximize potential in PvP as an Arcane Mage? Just a thought, but reviewing how to deal with other "trouble" classes/specs as Arcane would be super helpful!
This video implies that Frost relies solely on that large glacial spike. You can stack up fingers of frost and then also get that instant flurry off for a lot burst damage pretty similar to Fire pyroblasts... I find the 2 specs pretty similar just different play styles.
this video is recorded after the glacial spike nerf. right after the nerf it only hit for 600k. i think they buffed it again a little, but the big ones with 2 millions are definetly over. when u think about all the setup it takes, fire will be the spec for legion. higher dps, easy high burst and save poly with db!
Great concept. As for future comparisons: Aff lock vs. demo lock; X healer vs. Y healer (although I'm not sure if you cover information on healers), unholy vs. frost DK. Also, if you're big into druids, maybe do one where you compare and contrast spec affinities and their benefits in a pvp setting
This is great toonz, I think you hit the nail on the head. Lots of people are probably struggling to decide and it definitely helps to have a high rated player give a good comparison. While it's good that you let us decide for ourselves, I think many of us would agree that a definitive "this is better imo" from you would be greatly appreciated (I know you basically said so in an earlier video, but still.) We see the arena play and watch you win as both, so it can be hard to see what's really going to be better for us, especially considering the difference in skill level. Frost might be better, but maybe it's too difficult for some players? Or maybe the fire combo is hard for some to pull off. What's your viewpoint in terms of skill-based spec choice?
Use the talent circle of power talent. You get 5 Icicles, use frozen or and get your ice lances, put down power which increases ALL damage by 30% for 15 seconds and it crits a nice 320k for me and I'm a full 710s PFP gear frost mahe at level 100. It's crazy BUT REMEBER THE USE ICY VAINS OR A HASTE BUFF ATLEASE WHEN AGAINST A MELEE
Loved this video and I really like that you show us the rotation, explain why u need certain talents for this to work and a showcase at the end. Please continue this serie with other classes :)
I'm leaning towards frost in legion, I primarily do battlegrounds but will also quest and do dungeons. I just can't decide if fire or frost will be better for that playstyle.
Hi Cartoonz I often spam my fireball button and when I get "heating up" before I was able to press my fireblast, my 2nd fireball usually will remove the "heating up". Any way to prevent that? Thanks for the guide
My Fire mage xmog, you need to get it for your fire mage @Hogmanlolz. Firelord's hood - Head Mantle of Closed Door's - Shoulder (Hidden) - Back Vermillion Robes of the Dominant - Chest Red Linen Shirt - Shirt Tabard of Flame - Tabard Firelord's Gloves - Hands Swashbucklers Sash - Waist Einhorn's Galoshes - Feet Talisman of Nightbane - Off-hand Mindbender's Flameblade (Normal) - Weapon (Sword) Blade of Wizardry - Weapon (Sword) Ti'tahk, the Steps of Time - Weapon (Staff) All weapon enchants hidden.
Can someone explain how he kites so well? i assume he is holding both mouse buttons to move, but then what buttons is he using to strafe left and right while also moving backwards?
I like this series already but it would be preferable to compare all the specs that a particular class/style has access to because as a recently max lvl mage I am curious to know how arcane is doing on beta (alongside other classes).
What is that addon that's feeding your casts above your action bars? I've been having trouble keeping track of what's going on while playing my rogue, and I think this will help out.
I love the comparison's and hope you continue this series... Only thing I'd like to see is maybe at the end you add your thoughts on which you think is better between the comparison. 👍
I'm going to main Mage this expansion but choosing a spec and artifact weapons is a tough choice. Fire/frost are really fun and choosing 1 is difficult. How is artifact points going to affect your main spec in Pvp? Is there a system that allows you to switch in Pvp and not be gimped because you pve one spec and Pvp the other?
I've been loving your vids lately. May you do one for Discipline priest vs Blood DK plz? I love how you go over both class and specs, that way we know what to lookout for during the arena matchs.
hey man idk if this is something you'd be interested in but i'd love to see some voiceover in post explainign what you're doing and thinking in these arena matches. Maybe as some kind of series? Anyway, been really loving your content! Thanks!
Hey cartoonz, great work on the videos. I am stuck between choosing affliction lock, and fire mage. Love the mechanics for fire mage, but I also enjoy the tankiness/rot damage of affliction. Does the artifact weapon make a huge difference for either class? It seems like a lot of time will need to be invested into "one" character due to the amount of artifact power needed to max your weapon, so I would like to choose one and stick with it.
Compare demon hunter lack of snare(huge concern that they need to talent into it) to kite classes like hunters and mages. Monks have better mobility and a snare with similar dps.
Thanks! I'm kind of a noob. Awesome work on all of the content, by the way. I pretty much start my work day and then pull up your channel to look for a new vid.
here is a suggestion. do a longer video comparing/contrasting the playstyles of every ranged spec from a pvp'ers point of view. you could do a melee video of a similar fashion, too. it'd very similar to Preach's video where he did the same thing from a raider's point of view. cheers!
i think frost is still gonna be good. maybe behind fire but i think that frost can achieve high rate with the cc and controlled burst if combined with a super dps. fire is very strong now but it has les defensives, limited cc and very high amound of burst. i think both will be good but entirely different playstyle.
Does Fire spec have some health regen options? Curious to know how its 1v1 and world pvp survivability stands against so many class that have health regen talents/skills.
Been struggling to figure out if Feral or Boomkin is better, both do great damage, both are really fun to play, cant figure out which one would be most viable in legion.
The class is called Mage and it got 3 specs: Frost, Fire and Arcane. Hope in the next video you won't be using class, but spec because it's just not right. Also did they remove the aoe stealth from the rogues because it can be used before you use your Invisibility.
i am having a huge problem picking my old druid main as moonkin or reroll to my top1 alt my mage now in legion and a video like this is exaclty what i need for both mage and druid (like moonkin and freal) :d keep up the awesome work man!
While I do enjoy these videos, I also think it's fair to mention that in instanced pvp, templates are in action. Which means the damage of certain abilities / stats some specs have is different inside instanced pvp.
really want to see shadow priest and demonology warlock in pvp 2x2, 3x3, and bgs or compare with other unpopular specs like elemental shaman, and arcane mage
I wish lonely winter wasn't the only viable talent in its tier. I mean, the loss of the freeze utility is bad, but i'll what i'll miss the most is my little water buddy!
Hey hogman, can you make a pvp for prot classes like warriors and paladins? I played as a prot warrior in wod and i loved, but i don't know if prot warrior is going to be viable in pvp like in WOD, i mean in arenas and bg's. In wod the prot damage isn't high but was consistent. i'm really confused, i don't know if i should stay on my prot warrior, or should i play fire mage. i don't wanna waste my time grinding a prot warrior, I only play on the weekends, and have to grind 2 characters, it's too much.
Guys. What do you think will be the 1# go to FOTM class for legion except for DH because of them being new and all. Just want something really good to logg onto and play from time to time as I don't have the same time as i used to. Want something really strong in wpvp and especially fun. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond! :)
you should do rogue next, as far the spec comparisons go, its something im super interested in, ima complete noob in pvp even though ive been playing wow for 10 + years off and on and would like to know the best specc that could suit me. thanks for the video this was super helpful.
I agree with ruben the fact that blizz made fury wars take 30% more damage while enraged is stupid since to do any damage as fury you have to be enraged your almost always taking 30% more damage you can talent to make it 20% but its not that much help especially since bliz reduced the healing blood thirst does by like half maybe more. Anyway arms is best dps and prot. aint bad and has a sick 1 shot if u can stack FR and SB. Hope this helps
Yea bro your right. But thats blizz way balancing things, Giving every class disc priest heals exept warrs. ive mained a mage now, i will never go back playing warr unless they do something drastic. i dont even understand how its possible to fuck up the game that bad. Even fking rogues have a 50% heal that can be used every 30sec + 100% dodge chance. all warr has is fking rallying cry that makes you die when your dead anyyways, like that shitty cauterize tallent for mage. Warrs could be ok now with more heal. they could actually nerf dmg ( for arms) and give heals in return. atleast let them have secondwind and regen
Hey Cartoonz that rogue was really good you played with, was he playing sub or assasin? also firemage is looking soooo good for legion i'm super excited to play it, it's just so much burst with alot of procs an instants reallly fun playstyle imo cant wait!
finally a non clickbaity title. why dude? I'm surprised this wasnt titled THE NUMBER ONE ULTIMATE GODLIKE BEST MAGE SPEC IN LEGION, with a thumbnail of Jaina fuckin bent over a full 90 degrees in a thong as she fires up a frostbolt for casting.
lmao
LMAO that was fun to read
:D
Cartoonz never does stuff like that. You are thinking Xaryu...
players have this complex where if they just pick the perfect class/spec their problems will be solved. As long as it isn't complete shit just play what you think is fun. Make it work and you'll win games.
this is true , but also playing the stronger specs means an easier life and easier games. So I would pick the latter :)

Rabbit the Fish Sorry, I wasn't speaking to you, I meant the original poster.
Cartoonz has evolved his hair into pigeotto :P
it was a pretty bad hair day yesterday lol
L O L
I kinda liked the hair. :)
I'm cracking the phuck up!!😭😭😭

Glacial got nerfed, so this doesn't even work anymore
RIP 2004-2016 Frost Mage
not at all.
Yeah what are u talkin about
unless u live under a rock youd know that frost got nerfed to the ground
Frost is still great for pvp
not as great as before tho, finally ahahha
Hey Cartoonz, would you please do a comprehensive recap on how to maximize potential in PvP as an Arcane Mage? Just a thought, but reviewing how to deal with other "trouble" classes/specs as Arcane would be super helpful!
I don't understand why you don't include songs in the description....what is the song that starts when you start queing arenas?
This video implies that Frost relies solely on that large glacial spike. You can stack up fingers of frost and then also get that instant flurry off for a lot burst damage pretty similar to Fire pyroblasts...
I find the 2 specs pretty similar just different play styles.
I enjoy the greenscreen. You ontop of wow is better than the square cutout. Nice choice.

As I am pretty clueless to mages in general, what makes the first glacial spike hit for significantly lower than the second one?
As of today (as in the time I'm posting this) what's better for mainly 2v2 arena? Fire or frost
Fire
Frost

Hi Cartoonz I often spam my fireball button and when I get "heating up" before I was able to press my fireblast, my 2nd fireball usually will remove the "heating up". Any way to prevent that? Thanks for the guide
is this information old? i thought glacial spike got nerfed so that theres no point even going through the effort of building it up and casting it
My Fire mage xmog, you need to get it for your fire mage @Hogmanlolz.
Firelord's hood - Head
Mantle of Closed Door's - Shoulder
(Hidden) - Back
Vermillion Robes of the Dominant - Chest
Red Linen Shirt - Shirt
Tabard of Flame - Tabard
Firelord's Gloves - Hands
Swashbucklers Sash - Waist
Einhorn's Galoshes - Feet
Talisman of Nightbane - Off-hand
Mindbender's Flameblade (Normal) - Weapon (Sword)
Blade of Wizardry - Weapon (Sword)
Ti'tahk, the Steps of Time - Weapon (Staff)
All weapon enchants hidden.

Between you and hansol man. Making mage look amazingggg especially fire. Finally
What do you think is better in PvE? What are youre thoughts about?
new feral strat wait until your team mate is dead then come out of stealth
lol
Your videos are so on point lately!
Keep it up
What is that addon that's feeding your casts above your action bars? I've been having trouble keeping track of what's going on while playing my rogue, and I think this will help out.
man those frostbolts hit like trucks now. Still gonna stick to fire, it's just so active and fun without being a headache.
Alex Jessup, I know you from Delphi.
comparison of healer peeler DPS, survival hunter frost dk etc. think it may be quite important in the first season
I love the comparison's and hope you continue this series... Only thing I'd like to see is maybe at the end you add your thoughts on which you think is better between the comparison. 👍
It would be nice to have PvP tagged in the title because I came here looking for comparing PvE specs. Either way, it was a fantastic video
Frost needs more instants and increased casting speed.
God damn, I can always trust you to find good music.
What are the song names?
I got into edm watching his videos lol
If he likes good music he's probably 'on to it' as we say in these parts.
hi, what is this for a addon which shows the spells he cast (bottem mid)? thanks
Cartoonz please what is the addon make that make the icons of spells you used moving from right to left? Please? Thanks for answer
Which pvp spec will you be playing in Legion? And WHY?
I'm going to main Mage this expansion but choosing a spec and artifact weapons is a tough choice. Fire/frost are really fun and choosing 1 is difficult. How is artifact points going to affect your main spec in Pvp? Is there a system that allows you to switch in Pvp and not be gimped because you pve one spec and Pvp the other?
Dude, THANK YOU. been hoping you would make a video on which mage class was most viable in arena. Thanks bro
and a feral vs balance druid comparison would also be good
New sub here! Loving the class overviews, and liking this comparison too! Keep em coming!
can someone tell me what setting or addon he's using to get the health/mana bar beneath his character?
I've been loving your vids lately. May you do one for Discipline priest vs Blood DK plz?
I love how you go over both class and specs, that way we know what to lookout for during the arena matchs.
hey man idk if this is something you'd be interested in but i'd love to see some voiceover in post explainign what you're doing and thinking in these arena matches. Maybe as some kind of series? Anyway, been really loving your content! Thanks!
Are you planning on doing a feral video? I've been a feral main since vanilla and just wanted your thoughts as far as viability.
Was this footage recorded after the icicle nerf?
frost still gonna be godlike mode in bg's .
What spec was the rogue, "Couldawin" ?
Subtlety!
Thanks! I'm kind of a noob. Awesome work on all of the content, by the way. I pretty much start my work day and then pull up your channel to look for a new vid.
Hey thanks for this. It helped me understand fire more. I've been playing only ice and wanted to try fire in PvP. Thanks!
here is a suggestion. do a longer video comparing/contrasting the playstyles of every ranged spec from a pvp'ers point of view. you could do a melee video of a similar fashion, too. it'd very similar to Preach's video where he did the same thing from a raider's point of view. cheers!
Cartoonz what is the addon you use that shows which abilities you use in the order you use them?
whats the name of that addon displaying spells right over the action bar?
i think frost is still gonna be good. maybe behind fire but i think that frost can achieve high rate with the cc and controlled burst if combined with a super dps. fire is very strong now but it has les defensives, limited cc and very high amound of burst. i think both will be good but entirely different playstyle.
What addon is that , that scrolls as each skill is used above skill bar
12:15 does any1 know the song perhaps?
Does Fire spec have some health regen options? Curious to know how its 1v1 and world pvp survivability stands against so many class that have health regen talents/skills.
Id love to see someone of your level do an indepth comparison with which you think is better between unholy dk and frost dk.
could you include songs in the description? what was the arena one? thanks
Been struggling to figure out if Feral or Boomkin is better, both do great damage, both are really fun to play, cant figure out which one would be most viable in legion.
Wait you take tinder over flare up? not sure if its called flare up lol but you normally take the one all the way to the right, not tinder
Love that you are comparing specs
i hate it when there is good music in videos but they don't show the song titles :D can someone tell? nice video man :)
While I do enjoy these videos, I also think it's fair to mention that in instanced pvp, templates are in action. Which means the damage of certain abilities / stats some specs have is different inside instanced pvp.
really want to see shadow priest and demonology warlock in pvp 2x2, 3x3, and bgs
or compare with other unpopular specs like elemental shaman, and arcane mage
What does that mod do that shows what you cast? Any other mods that you use for pvp that I should know about?
Love this scientific and well narrated analytical approach from a digital native. Thanks from your dad's generation.
I wish lonely winter wasn't the only viable talent in its tier. I mean, the loss of the freeze utility is bad, but i'll what i'll miss the most is my little water buddy!
Deep shatter doesnt work with glacial spike icicles anymore rip
I never thought about using ring of frost for hunter pets! will use 👌
so what is better BM or fire mage?
How long does it take to acquire and level up each artifact weapon to the max?
Hey hogman, can you make a pvp for prot classes like warriors and paladins? I played as a prot warrior in wod and i loved, but i don't know if prot warrior is going to be viable in pvp like in WOD, i mean in arenas and bg's. In wod the prot damage isn't high but was consistent.
i'm really confused, i don't know if i should stay on my prot warrior, or should i play fire mage.
i don't wanna waste my time grinding a prot warrior, I only play on the weekends, and have to grind 2 characters, it's too much.
great video as always man. Quick question though. what macro do you use to cancel ice block so quick or are you just that quick lol.
why do you have to cast a "small" spike first?
Guys. What do you think will be the 1# go to FOTM class for legion except for DH because of them being new and all. Just want something really good to logg onto and play from time to time as I don't have the same time as i used to. Want something really strong in wpvp and especially fun. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond! :)
What is that addon is he using? the sliding one?
Glacial spike got "fixed", and right now it doesnt benefit from ice shatter or ice form now; which why those crazy numbers came from.
you should do rogue next, as far the spec comparisons go, its something im super interested in, ima complete noob in pvp even though ive been playing wow for 10 + years off and on and would like to know the best specc that could suit me. thanks for the video this was super helpful.
What is the best Mage specializations for soloing?
frost ofc
Frost thou fire good at PvP
am i missing something or was the song name not mentioned?
What is the fire spec sword transmog?
Thanks for all the vidz bro! Any chance u could possibly add arcane to this discussion? Or just your thoughts on it after the recent changes
Do u buy legion pvp gear with marks of honor or a different currency?
is marksman hunter or survival any good in pvp? would love to see a video comparing those with bm.
Survival is insane in pvp.
Whats that addon he is using show your rotation?
What is the first song that plays in the arena clips??
@hogmanlolz is your opinion on frost mage the same after nerfs I heard its gonna be bad
8:35 was amazing. Pop ou and spike to the face.
i always knew that. but never knew how someone can do that " that re-sheep is amazing gw Hogman!!!
Can you do Arms Warrior vs Fury Warrior?
no point, arms destroy fury. fury is dogshit
How can u Place the Meteor when u have global cooldown? Or Do is See it wrong?
Man that was great, can you do feral vs balance next please?
Dont know why you dont have more subs, your content is soo quality
