    I have around 20 light kits, they do get easier! I’ve ended up getting some extra expansion boards and stringing them all together then routing it into a smart plug. Voice controlled Lego lights!

      Also as an addendum, maybe have a look at the light my bricks 2.0 ones. They are £££ but they’re designed so that you fit them as you build the set. Which imagine is far easier!

    Congrats on giving light kits a go! They can definitely be very fiddly, and the quality and ease of install definitely varies between the different companies that make the kits - I've used Light My Bricks for mine and they've recently released v2 of their components which use flat cables instead of tiny wires - but the tiny slots can still be really tricky. Also LMB (and maybe others?) now offer wireless connectors between floors so you can still take the modulars apart without having to disconnect everything.
    Definitely found it easier the more I've done, and seeing the end result definitely makes it worth it in my opinion, plus when one building is lit up it makes you want to see the whole street :)

    The end result is amazing, very cool, but I do feel your pain. My first attempt at a light kit was so awful that I was really nervous when it came to doing the second. However it wasn’t as bad, so I guess they do get easier.

    I lit my winter village sets this weekend, just the Elf Clubhouse, Alpine Lodge and the Hogsmeade set using Light My Bricks kits. It was my first time doing it and I knew it was going to be fiddly and it took me about 8 hours to do the 3 sets. I refused to thread wires between bricks where it was putting too much pressure on the connections and instead replaced bits some pieces with 1x1 round studs as they have enough of a gap to thread the cable through. I've come to the conclusion that these sets will not be taken apart again as the light kits are just too fragile to keep taking apart and rebuilding. I'm pleased with the outcome though and have a couple more kits that I've been putting off adding to other sets so will do those at some point!

    I've just finished my first Game of Bricks kits and I can understand how you felt but some were much easier than others.
    The elf clubhouse wasnt too bad, the Christmas tree was so quick and easy (although I'm not as much of a fan of the end result), but the holiday main street... I'd give that a miss if you want a stress free install.
    Also, just as a warning... The trees! Effective but they certainly become a lot more fragile and don't like to be reassembled with little wires running through them.

    Light might bricks area a great brand for lights. Their 2.0 versions allow you to build and light up as you go. Only helps if you haven’t built it already!!! I did the home alone house with lights having to take most the house apart. 14 hours later and it does look smart lit up!

    It's so gratifying to see you struggle with light kits just as much as I. I got into Lego late last year and was excited to try out some light kits, so I got the kit for the Tranquil Garden set (10315), and I hated every step of installing it. There was so much cursing when fiddling and struggling with the minuscule cables and connection points. I got it done eventually, but even after seeing the end result, which granted makes it look quite nice, I vowed to never ever do it again as it was not worth the frustration and anger to get to that point. I got into Lego for the relaxing and fun aspect of it after all, and light kits are the opposite of relaxing and fun. Absolutely despise them, hahaha. Shame about the missing bags, but I'm glad you managed to complete the bags you got at least! It does look pretty and festive for the holidays!

    The first time I installed lights I also thought it was a nightmare but I can assure you that as you do more it'll become easier, still fiddly but really worth it. All the modulars and Christmas sets I own, and the Orient Express, have lights installed from Game of Bricks. Maybe do the tree next, it's quite an easy one 😊

    I got the nightmare before Christmas light set from game of bricks, they do looks good when it’s done but the level of frustration was insane when you’ve got to have the wires go in between the bases plates to the main connector underneath. I’d recommend adding the lights as you build the set.

    Hi there! I know the feeling, cause I have large hands too so I don't wanna try lights either. Though people always comment "Will you ever light up your city?" I just don't reply (no reply gives the obvious answer?) As far as holding those tiny wires and connecters, there's a tiny needlenose pliers for electronics that you might be able to buy that should work. It's not tiny, just made for tiny wires, etc. It's more like a tweezer I think. Lights do add to the look of any city, but I just use white Christmas lights where needed....lol. Great video, thanks!

  • @johnedwards5575
    @johnedwards5575 8 днів тому

    As much as I like the blinking lights here, I don’t like the light kits because most have too high of a nit count for the surface area they are needed in, and the white is typically on the cooler end. Also to note, a non bright LED blue is near impossible due to the need to amplify the LED to produce the color.
    Get a nice little candle bulb and keep it lit in each building and call it a day.
