    Ms. G.E. - Great rundown for the latest news. Make no mistake, THIS IS A TRACK MEET NOW, and the starting-gun fired a few years ago. The obvious SURVIVORS heard the signal to get a-goin’, and several others “scratched” from the race. For those following this fascinating drama in some detail, the competitors delaying entry need to chose another sport, besides track. We are witnessing panic, massive debt, non-bespoke EV Models, and poor decisions based on “OLD ways” in an unforgiving era. Nissan is unlikely to survive, Stellantis will shrink, Ford delay vs. GM ‘24 roll-outs . . . Toyota resistance to EVs, and uncompetitive models. . . not pretty. 😬😱
    “Too Big to fail?” No longer a thing. Stay tuned. 👊🔋

    • @MissGoElectric

      The tariffs we talked about last week seemed feels, to some, a bit like the US auto bailouts of the past. Combined with hundreds of billions of dollars in grants and subsidies for American automakers, some think "too big to fail" is alive and well.
      China has gone from over 500 EV automakers a few years ago to less than 100 today. We agree with you that there are many half-hearted EVs available today and there appear to be several more in the pipeline from a few American and European automakers. We will stay tuned.

    We love our EV's and have 0 plans to ever buy another ICE vehicle! We average 60,000 km per year on our primary vehicle (2022 Ioniq5 AWD Ultimate) and about 10,000 km on our 2nd EV (2017 Nissan Leaf) we love both of them. Trouble free, very inexpensive to operate and great to drive.
    We do a lot of long range road trips in the I5 (longest so far 14,648 km) and have no issues getting the car charged. The existing infrastructure has weak areas but we see it getting better every day.

I was hoping you'd report on why GM has now deleted part no. 85090442 (its J3400 adapter) from its parts store: the Supercharger firings have undermined the transition? Have a fun time at Industry Day. I'm sure you'll wow them with your presentation.

      Tesla's impact report confirmed that 5.9 million applicants sought employment with Tesla in 2023 alone. We don't think they've had a tough time filling needed roles within the supercharging network. Factors behind the scenes regarding compatibility for third party automakers and the Tesla Supercharging network are numerous. Ford representatives said it took a lot of work on their side to get it done. Is GM dedicating the required resources to ensure their vehicles have software? Does GM have some technological inconsistencies or limitations which are uniquely challenging? We know their battery platform, charging curves, and software development have been sources of trouble. It could be a strategy change or a pricing negotiation problem. Or, as you suggest, it could be a limitation at Tesla due to the personnel shakeup in that department. We think it is unlikely Tesla will stop with only Ford and Rivian having access.
      Electrify Expo is a fun time. Miss GoElectric hosted an industry event there last year as well. We look forward to this discussion on stage regarding the Tesla Supercharging network and its impact on the industry.

    I suspect Nissan is delaying US EV production because they have clearly adopted the US automakers priority for service center profits. As example, Nissan ICE automatic transmissions are not serviceable, they can one be replaced with prices nearing $12000!

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  Місяць тому +2

      Nissan appears to have delayed the sedans. The 5 SUV EVs are on track, or perhaps bumped up a bit.
      Your point is valid, though. EVs cost much less to maintain which always results in lower revenue for service departments. Tesla, as an example, does not profit by the service centers. Traditional franchise dealerships typically realize about 50% of total profits from the service centers. Traditional automakers also realize significant percentages of their profit from service related revenues.

    Thanks for the rundown on the EV news. I think it is worthwhile to note that when the legacy auto makers starting having trouble selling their EV’s in any great numbers, the narrative in the media quickly pivoted to there’s just a “lack of demand” and the charging infrastructure is contributing to “range anxiety”. Repeat this over and over to create FUD in the public and ICE cars can continue to be the main product being sold…it’s a self fulfilling prophecy. The acceleration of growth may be slowing but EV’s continue to capture market share (mostly Tesla in the US), and the Chinese are now set to completely disrupt the market. Rather than commit to helping Tesla build out the charging network or plan for the future they have scaled back their plans but sheepishly still maintain their commitment to building EV’s in “the future”. Doesn’t seem like a winning strategy and it appears that the legacy brands will continue to lose ground.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  Місяць тому +1

      The delays we've talked about in this segment are related to three sedans. Regardless of powertrain, sedans don't seem to be very popular in the US.
      Tesla has ramped Model 3 and Model Y production capacity to the point where they *are capable of* producing 2x the EVs they made last year. At this point, it looks like their sales will limit them to, perhaps 1.2x production. At the moment, their supply greatly outpaces the demand.
      American legacy automakers have it worse due to greater friction throughout franchise dealership distribution networks, labor agreements, and greater reliance on suppliers.
      The 100% Chinese EV import tariff we reported on in last week's episode will likely continue to keep Chinese automakers out. In fact, we suspect it could stop the Chinese EVs we already have from coming in. Examples include Polestar 2, Volvo XC40, and the Lotus Eletre.
      In good news, there are hundreds of thousands of fast EV charging stations on their way through the NEVI program. Battery cell prices continue to drop, which means greater range is possible without raising prices.
      Thank you for commenting!

      @@MissGoElectric I know that the EU is thinking about tariffs but interestingly the European auto makers are very afraid of possible Chinese retaliation in that the Chinese market is very big for brands such as VW. I believe the Chinese will first target the European market, but I do wonder what the American consumer will think when inexpensive and reliable Chinese brands come on the scene but will be excluded from the buying choice in the US.
      I've had an EV for several years now and Tesla for the last 4 years. I never thought that for the VAST majority of my driving the infrastructure was a problem but I do charge at home. Though the infrastructure can certainly improve, I do think the problem is primarily seen from a "glass half empty" point of view. Thanks again.

    I’m extremely disappointed with numerous EV brands delaying EV development & launch of new models in USA. It is contagious across all brands and impacts new charging sites as well. Insufficient charging infrastructure is one of reasons EV sales have slowed down.
    What will it take to avoid an EV downward spiral.

    • @davidmenasco5743
      @davidmenasco5743 Місяць тому +1

      There's no downward spiral. The foot is on the accelerator pedal, but has eased off the speed a little bit.
      The industry went from going about 5 miles an hour towards full EV, to suddenly smashing the pedal and going 95 miles an hour. They've all (mostly) decided they can't handle 95 miles an hour, so they've backed off to 50.
      Now, if they had just gone from 5mph to 50mph, the story would be: EV transition speeds up 10x!!!
      Instead, the story is being spun like it's a death spiral -- which is definitely not the case. The companies are now cruising at a more comfortable speed.
      The question is, at this pace, can they survive the competition from China? Well, those companies may have to slow down a little bit also, so a lot remains to be seen.

    US market needs a $30K msrp EV not made in China.

      There are several EVs matching that description right now. Now that the $7500 federal incentive is taken at the point of sale rather than a tax credit in the future, affordability is better than most people think.

    The EV market is going to get crowded in the next few years. And with more of them having the J3400 standard charge port competition is going to get real. EVs are going to go from luxury only to the only affordable cars. Having a gas car will be a "display of wealth" because it shows you can afford it.

      Indeed, we are in exciting times.
      Mate Rimac seems to agree with the second half of your statement based on his recent remarks on the topic. We think owning the *best* vehicles will continue to be the habit of wealthy people.
      Wealthy people will continue to own horses and combustion vehicles, but we think they'll daily drive the smoothest, quietest, quickest, and most reliable, and longest range options. The most luxurious EVs win in every category. -Producer Tim

    Delays in the market are bad. I don't believe their promise to keep to their goals.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  Місяць тому

      In these cases, the delays are specifically aimed at SEDANS. In recent weeks, have reported on over 20 massive EV and battery factories in construction in the US. With *SO* much production coming online by 2026, we suspect automakers are realizing that the US Auto industry may be headed for an EV oversupply problem. -Producer Tim

      @@MissGoElectric I think the multiplying factories are due to the tax rebates (or how you call them) for American made cars, thus all manufacturers realized they have to produce them in the USA. Am I on the right track?

      Most of these factories were announced before battery and point of sale credits were announced. That said, lobbying happened for years before policy was officially announced. -Producer Tim

    I suspect the unstated reason to delay EV rollouts and investments is due to the fact we are in an election year. Trump has promised to reverse the IRA. If that were to occur auto manufacturers will want to pull back. The Auto market is soft anyway so being cautious seems to be the approach several automakers are taking. The downside of pausing is probably quite small while the upside could be significant should the IRA be reversed.

    I like your work, but, I wish you’d put it all on a single UA-cam channel. I don’t understand why you make folks bounce around between channels to find your work.

    • @MissGoElectric
      @MissGoElectric  Місяць тому

      For years it was all on one channel. As the channel grew, each new video would result in many viewers unsubscribing. The channel growth was stunted by this situation.
      Here is why:
      UA-cam suggests our latest video to subscribers when they log in. If someone subscribed because they liked an EV review we did and they see a CEO interview or an eBike they would leave the channel because it doesn't match their interests.
      We split the channel which allows viewers to subscribe to only what they want.
      We love everything related to electrification, but most viewers only want some elements. @MissGoElectric holds the mainstream stuff. @MissGoElectricRideReviews holds the in-depth eMobility work. @MissGoElectricIndustry is where we publish content which appeals mostly to investors and industry insiders.
