It was the summer of 1996, and the rumors about Eric Lindros and accused mob boss Joey Merlino were flying. Instead of relying on rumors and hearsay, Howard Eskin decided to go right to the source.
Eskin took a trip to a coffee shop owned by Merlino, and asked him to appear on his afternoon radio show on 610 WIP to clear up the rumors regarding Merlino's relationship to Lindros. Merlino agreed, and the rest was Philadelphia radio history. - Розваги

The difference in voice can be attributed to difference between a telephone vs. a studio microphone but the current 62-year-old Joey sure sounds more aggressive and disgruntled. Granted, the next 27 years that awaited him would certainly harden anyone.

I was at a baseball card show back in the day that he was at, I was using a payphone right next to him,,,, the operator must have said something like" please insert more money"?? Or something of that nature?,,, he was scrambling for Change and didn't have any,, .he then asked me if I had a quarter?...lol... I gave it to him and the next thing I heard him say was" give me the Lakers -7,,, the Pistons + 4,, and the Bulls -5",,,😂😂😂😂(( always known as a big gambler))....
