9:17 This is because the camera is mounted in the ceiling and you rotated the image. Just disable the auto-rotate and highlight what you want privacy and then set it back to the rotation you want.
This was pleasant to watch. Thank you for putting out a video that does not parrot the style of stereotypical IT tech and gadget reviewers. Just an honest, personal, helpful review which is appreciated! Subscribed!
Very easy-to-follow, clear, and well-narrated review. I can tell you did some planning before shooting the video. Thanks for the really useful information about the Cloud Key Gen2 Plus and Unifi Protect.
If I'm buying into the unifi eco system, am I ok in just getting the cloudkey gen2 plus, 8 port Poe switch, and a few cameras to start?.... And then add some access points etc later? Also what is the the best way to cable all this up through the house and outside? (In a 3 story old house with very thick walls!) :)
Unifi Protect is what Unifi Video should have been but Ubiquiti is growing and learning so I understand. I just switched my home network over to the new UCKG2+ and really like it.
Great report on the gen 2 Pete............tell me does it get hot /warm? Also..has the latest update sorted out these bugs you reported ? very informative channel !
Unifi Video is free and doesn't have these bugs and you can assign per-use with it, but you have to run your own computer/server. We have 30 cameras on a single 1gbps line and it works fine, generates about 1TB per day.
@Pete Matheson Can you do a short video on your thoughts/comments after 1 year? How is the system upholding? Software/Hardware etc..? Low light performance? Thanks
Currently, I am running 12 UVC G3 cameras and 2 Unifi WAPs controlled by the Cloud Key Gen2. I have upgraded the hard drive in the Cloud Key Gen2 to 5TB. And since I'm sharing, I have the Unifi 48 port POE switch and the Unifi Security Gateway (USG-Pro-4). All being powered by a Tripp-lite battery backup that can support my network for 1 hour. Eleven of my cameras are outside with one in the garage. All of this is connected via a 48 port patch panel with CAT6 Ethernet cable going to each camera, WAP and network drop. I keep 2 weeks of video and that only takes about about 25 percent of the hard drive. Ok, I'm finished bragging.
Great video , just fyi ubiquiti has more features that you told , please don't undermine what they do.also they give you these for free try getting that in other providers .
Is it possible to run a Unifi Protect system without using Ubiquiti UniFi networking equipment? I have an existing 1Gbps POE capable setup that I'd like to use with just the cameras and the Cloud Key for NVR storage.
A question, when you set up users, I give them a user name and password but when user logs in the password comes up as incorrect. Has anyone had this problem too.
Tekkers IT Solutions Dont understand you reply. In protect when setting up a user the password set will not work when attempting are made with the new user name.
Until you use one, you won't know how ridiculously hot these get. Must be in a cool place or you can burn yourself on them. The smooth case is for looks, not functional for keeping things real.

The best intro/basic CK G2+ I have come across so far. Cheers.

Push the tray in slightly then push button. It will pop out nicely.

can you setup this to audible alarm? Or would Ring spotlight camera be better for audible alarm/siren?

@@PeteMatheson so would you recommend this system? It seems OK but with no trigger area set etc it's difficult to justify price...
@@PeteMatheson I see.... Might have to invest... G3 dome vs g3.... For covering alleyway down side property...
I agree... Would be good to gauge your view after a long period of use
Hi dude I have a UVC G3 micro and it doesn't let me set up although the app recognize it. Do you know what I can do in this situation? Pleasee
I have a question. So I need to install about 25 cameras. Can I install 2 of these and split the load? Cuz it says it supports up to 20 cameras only.

Why the cat6 to each camera? Future proofing or??
@@beerdiaryshootinmcdaniel8063 Exactly. The labor cost is the same to run CAT6 or CAT5, so, why not future proof my network.

@@PeteMatheson Awesome! Thanks for replying :)
Can you save video clips offline?
Can you use non unifi cameras with this? I already have several IP cameras I would like to use.
Thanks
9:17 Disable Auto rotate. The use privacy , then reactivate Auto rotate
@@PeteMatheson See --> community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Protect/Motion-privacy-zones-mapped-incorrectly-after-toggling/m-p/2615614/highlight/true#M2863
So deactivate rotation, set privacy zone , reactivate rotation

I utilize a usb powered fan that draws 1 watt of power to cool it down. It now operates at a cool 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Yes, I agree, my cloud key gen2+ runs at 60 degrees C when the ambient is 40 degrees C. Definitely a hand burner.
