@@pnw_mountain_craft yes meat and eggs. Quail are entirely dark meat, most the meat is in the breast but about 10-12oz per bird so a hungry guy can eat 2 in a meal, cost about 1.50$ to raise and same as rabbit can harvest at 8 weeks. They need 14 hours of light a day so need supplemental light and they will lay an egg a day year round. My hutch will hold 120 birds (that video should be out in about 2 weeks)
@@pnw_mountain_craft you can get into quail for pretty cheap, the Incubator was my biggest cost so far (170$) but a tub for a brooder, heat lamp, waterer, feeder, and either a wire hutch or aviary to house them, probably less then 250$ in equipment. I bought 60 eggs from my shire farms which will be breeders/layers and from there if you have a incubator the investment return comes pretty quickly. My rotation will be harvesting at least 30 birds every 4-6 weeks, plus eggs daily to either eat, hatch or sale. Rabbits have a higher meat yield vs feed cost but quail are a close second, both are nice and quite so neighbors aren’t bothered which makes them great for small homesteads and neither need a huge amount of space either. If I had the acreage for cows I’d have them but I’m very limited on space so these small livestock are my best option for good clean healthy meat
I have never eaten quail... Assuming they're for meat purposes?
