What is the bird singing so enthusiasticly? Beautiful. I've strained my back so MANY times in the past that I often ask for assistance or at least think smart. Hello dear Stewart. 🥰🦋🌈
Hi Linda, I am in zone 6 and woke up to snow this morning. Thankfully, it didn't accumulate and cause any harm to my perennial flowers and shrubs. I have always replaced my potting mix every year until last year I used the old potting mix combined with new to plant my David Austin rose tree just like you demonstrated and it was the prettiest of all my roses that were grown in new soil. I am a believer and I appreciate all your unbiased tips and tricks. I am looking forward to seeing your beautiful garden this season.
I use my son’s old wagon that I used to pull him around as a toddler. All of my garden equipment, like tools, Espoma fertilizers, compost, and potting soil goes in there. I have a bad back so gardening is a challenge. It works really well. My husband switches out what I need so I don’t have to lift. I heavily landscaped my entire acre property. My hobby is awful for my back, but you learn to adapt. I love gardening and not even rods and screws can stop me lol.
Linda, I am in zone 8a (Eastern Virginia). We have had extreme winds as well. This is the first year I can remember waking up to broken pots and patio items tipped over. I do a great deal of container potting on my patio and you have been so helpful with this. Several years ago, I began trying to fill most of my pots with perennials and/or evergreens and this has been very helpful. I save a few for pretty annuals as well. Sending you sunshine from VA❣️
I now live in Edmond,OK. Zone 7a. The winds are strong and constant. I am learning that I will need to water just planted shrubs every other day to get them established. The winds are going to be the catalyst for removing grass lawn and replacing with turf and hardy shrubs and perennials. I love the combination of in ground plantings and containers in the garden. Your eye for design is evident and so inspirational.
When I plant something large in a pot and in the yard, I cut most of the bottom out of the pot. This allows for better draining and when you water, the water goes directly to the plant and does not spread out like it would if planting in the soil. This came from a famous garden designer and landscaper in England. I also will cut the off a few inches of the bottom of the black pots a plant comes in, put the plant back with much of the root ball exposed. I then plant the whole thing in the garden. Love the idea of the bags.
Grow bags, I love them!!! I planted my extra tomato plants in the 10 gal last year and they did better than the ones in the raised bed. I also planted Okra, potatoes, and peas in them. They did fabulous. But you gave me an idea with my potted flowers I love! Use the smaller grow bags in the containers and I can move them if need be. Also I load up my gorilla cart my son got me for Mother’s Day with all my supplies to garden. Thanks Linda!
Linda, I just watched Megan from My Southern Garden and she mentioned how you taught her so much during the pandemic. I know that you have taught me design. I had the basics just not how to put it together. Thank you so much.
Hi Linda from Annie in Australia, crazy weather all over the world I hear. As for container gardens they are good as you can move them around and change a decor in a few minutes.
Zone 10a, San Francisco Bay area. I have gophers so most of my planting is in containers plus I'm handicapped and it makes it much easier for me to garden. I find grouping my containers really helps and I use an umbrella when the temps get too hot. It was 89 yesterday! It will be 76 today. Love your videos and can't wait until I get your book next week, yippee!
Me too I’m in Norwalk, CA have lots of gopher in the parkway I just call the City and they lay traps it just messes up the grass but with all the gopher mound the ground is not level anymore. Zone 10b.
Yes! I use the same kind of wheelbarrow as you have and I use it the same way. I also have a small hand truck and I use it to move my large pots with it…sure saves my back! 💗 I’m glad you showed us using your used potting soil, too!
I just amend the soil on the top of whatever container I want to plant. I don't dump it all out. Haven't had a problem so far doing it that way. We have raised beds in the garden & along the house on one side. And several large containers to plant in. Last year I planted 4 tomato plants in the containers. I had a beautiful harvest. I added marigold plants by them & it kept the bugs away. Wonderful. Lorraine
I use my Gorilla cart for repotting, new plantings. etc., but maybe the Best tip I've seen in a long time is to use the cloth grow bags in the planters! Can't wait to try this!!
Zone 9b central Florida and extremely windy and gusty today but as another fellow Floridian commented it was a great gardening day with the low temps, low humidity and blue sky. From the comments it seems much of the country is experiencing high winds. I personally like it as I tend to "glow" easily when working in the garden (let's just say it like it is, I sweat just walking out the door most days, lol) So the breeze/wind is welcomed by me, but the plants do suffer. Great video and I too reuse my soil, amending it just as you do. Those "tips, tricks and hacks" are all good labor and money saving ideas. I have never had any issues reusing soil and luckily I do not deal with many pests or diseases. Thanks Linda and Stewart!!
I live in Southwest Michigan, I also use the old soil and the new with the vermiculite, but I put in cow manure not a whole lot just to get the plants started they feed all summer long. None of my plants never burn from using the fertilizer. Thank you for all your tips enjoy your show.
I also do that with the cow manure and it saves me from having to administer anything else throughout the season although we do have a short growing season here it really does make a difference in color and size of flowers and vegetables. ✌️❤️🦋🌱🍃
Zone 5b...we're still pretty cold here so it's a bit early to plant any pots but when I do I'll also use a cart or wagon to haul things around...for the most part. I do like to get my steps in by walking back & forth for supplies 😁
Zone 4 in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Windy? Yes!! We're used to warming westerly winds coming from the coast and over the mountains, but this year the wind has been crazy! Not sure what's going on but batten down the hatches! Linda, we're about the same age, so I really appreciate seeing your garden tips, tricks and hacks to make gardening easier. I have some very large containers and will be planting them up in about a month or so and will definitely assemble a mobile potting station in my wheelbarrow. Thanks for the inspiring videos!
I love dahlias in pots and use a tomato cage for support! You cut off the long pieces that are designed to go into the ground, bend them in half to make a stake. Place the cage upside down with the largest hoop on the soil and then secure the cage with the hook! I also use this for my big dahlia bed, it work fabulously 💚
Brilliant! I have about 30 dahlias potted up and waiting to go outside (beginning of June in my zone 4 garden) and will definitely be trying this out. Thanks Jeannine!
Took me a few years to learn that I need to mobile garden lol My pots kept getting bigger and more kept showing up each year! I couldn't love this video enough, I am in zone 3, winds have been horribly extreme and cold this year. I load up my wheel barrow and move around the garden planting pots on site, our growing season is very short and zone hardy perennials are limited in the Canadian Prairies so I love to use containers to plant things that are not so hardy and/or native here.
I use my wheelbarrow the same way, to save my back, corral materials and keep things tidy. I haven’t seen the fabric containers so that is a great tip that I will have to follow up on. Thanks so much!
Today in Louisville, Ky we have had wind, rain, sleet, hail and sunshine! Craziest Spring I remember and no gardening can take place. The buds in my azaleas are showing color, so I’m covering them on these cold nights. Next week predicted to be in the high 70’s! Can’t wait.
Yes Linda, live in country about 75 SW of OKC. Winter wheat on north and south side of my old farm house. Winds are really bad. North or south. With gust of up to 40-50 lately. I just wish we were getting more rain. Expanding flower gardens, with help of my confidant and best friend for many years. We’re trying each day to plant, transplant, propagate from other roses, especially. But you are right about these winds are very physically draining. We, not young anymore for sure, finding ourselves taking more breaks. But at the same time while we’re sitting we look around. Decide to do something different than originally planned. Trying to get more flowers planted from seed. Container gardening last year was our main thing from seed. Learned from your videos and a few others of doing things easier, and making sure we take the time to sit and enjoy the one rose bush divided from a container last year. We have nine more rose bushes to get in. But we have learned that preparation ahead and setting up where the winds aren’t knocking us over. Lol. Anyway a new thing for us is the rose bush cuttings she brought today, we’re soaking them tonight and then we are using cinnamon in a dampened paper towel for propagation and digging holes filling with just potting mix with some gravel for drainage. No we won’t see blooms this year. But boy next year will be awesome. Okay I am done. I just watched this video of container geraniums you had and already got more ideas. So Thank You. I love watching your videos because I am in Oklahoma and I feel I’m getting more of a better understanding about planting in our part of the country as opposed to NE or NW part of these United States.
Hi Linda, I have been gardening for 50 years and never thought to mix my soil in a wheelbarrow!!!! I must be a real masochist! Lugging stuff around.....my poor back!! What a genius idea! I used to garden in NJ zone 7a and now for the past 3 years, garden in Florida zone 9b and I cannot for the life of me adapt!!! Zone 9b is the opposite of zone 7b!!! However I keep trying!! LOL! Have a great day! Hi Stewart!
Zone 7b, W. TN YES about the wind! So annoying! Just beginning to watch this vlog, so I am all ears (and eyes). Last year I got in over my head, trying to get everything watered, many beds too far from the house. This year I want more containers. I won't buy any plastic, but when I find an old, discarded one, I do paint them. My knees and spine really need raised beds and containers. I L0VE blending soils in my wheelbarrow. 💚
I am in zone 9 Louisiana, I don’t have a wheelbarrow cart but have Gorilla wagon it lifts and dumps, love it. Happy to see you reuse soil. Thanks for sharing.
I have one of the heavy duty wagons that doesn’t tip over. A tip for unloading a big bag of soil is to use a quart sized kettle or a pitcher as a dipper to move product from one point to another. Don’t lift those heavy bags and mess up your back. Thanks for tip about the plant bags.
Zone 8b, Dothan AL (southeast corner). We have never been a windy place, but the last few days have been 15-20 mph winds with a chill factor so I can now say I have a better understanding (and appreciation) for all the gardeners who garden in a WINDY area! Gosh, it is hard! My hair was in my face yesterday and I had to come inside early! 😂
Zone 8b NC Linda I agree the wind has been horrendous this spring. I'm looking for some plants to work as a wind break on the west side of my property. This was not all a problem until recently! Thanks as always for sharing your journey.
Zone 6B . My movable container garden this week is my tomato and squashes coming into house at night and back into a sheltered sunlight every morning. This horrible wind I feel is our new normal and I’m very depressed about it. I am a fair weather gardener and NOTHING is out of my shed yet.😭 I sure enjoy watching you handle this weather pattern , inspired as I am I’m staying inside.
I also reuse my old potting soil. I have too many pots and a small budget. I also mix my own soilless mix using everything you use plus sand and vermiculite but I make my own fertilizer to add. Have livestock on my land and use fermented weed tea. There are instructions all over the internet on this. Love the tip on planting bags in big pots for easy removal when needed. As always love to watch you and Stewart. You make a wonderful team here.
Also I use an old wagon with rebuilt sides for hauling all that’s needed. Plus it is just a best go to if you don’t have wheel barrel. We also do routine walk about in my two big old barns. Today for example, we found an antique mirror that after we clean it will set up on a half barrel that we planted elephant ears in. Can’t wait to see.
(7B) Beginner/budget friendly tip for people who may not be comfortable with buying soil and have a nursery plant. Just keep the plant in your nursery container and pop it into the pretty one. I do this with many plants inside and out. Like Linda said, it makes it easy to transition during shifts of season/weather. You may want to make sure it isn't root bound though & has at least some soil to grow into. May inhibit some growth.
I have used my wheel barrel the same way. I left some geraniums in the ground and wintered some in pots. I tried the bare root way and failed. My fault, I'm sure. Thanks Linda!
I'm in North Carolina 7b...we have a frost advisory tonight. It has been windy and cold today. It has been windy here also. I love the grow pots!! I have been using these for years. They come in 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 gallon. I plant my entire vegetable garden in these and it is awesome!!
Hello! I am in zone 7 Rhode Island. And have only been here over a year. Never experienced such a windy season from the depth of winter to now ?Spring. DEFINITELY concentrating on container gardening this year. Oh going to watch this very timely video!!!:thanks in advance
I’m in Springfield, MO, and it has been soooooo windy here, too. And our temps were low last night. I’m so ready to plant!!! Thank you for all of your tips, tricks, and ideas. Love watching your show.
First, as usual you’re beautiful! Second I have huge concrete pots, you can’t move them so we do the same, we bring our wheelbarrow potting soil and fertilizer to them. Just bought two topiaries and Linda the prices are so high but they’re so beautiful.. unfortunately two of my topiaries didn’t weather well so going to replace them too. Tomorrow my husband and I are going to a quaint little nursery about a hour away, you would love this place, it has so many beautiful plants plus a little store full of goodies, candies, home accessories and the best milkshakes I’ve ever had.
Yesterday, Saturday in zone 9b it was extremely windy and chilly. Many times it gets chilly around Easter but the wind was a lot. Regardless, it was a beautiful 71 degrees. Wish I had room to store a wheelbarrow, but the planting bag is something I can use. TY 🤗
Wonderful preparation I have Wonderful preparation I have been using this type of system for quite a while Maybe not with so many additives that you do so I will begin to add more I actually use the little things that come in Packaging curly queues sometimes hold sometimes I chopped them up sometimes I put them in a old blender I have an old blender in my shed I can use and it works wonderfully thank you for all your advice and comments looking forward to more
Linda, I'm in Zone 4b Minnesota cold spring and very windy our gardens are starting to wake up. I adopted the wheelbarrow soil mixer a few years back when my containers became to large and help was not always availab!e. Another tip is a two wheel dolly to move the containers no more lifting for me.
Really enjoying your book. My 20 month old grand daughter loves Stuart’s photos. I’m hoping to give her the gifts of a love of books and a love of gardening for the future. I always wondered how your garden could be L shaped. Now realise from your book that your garden is rectangular with the Potager behind your office. How silly am I 🤦🏼♀️
I’m in zone 7a just like the person in Connecticut it is crazy windy here and raining most days. I know I should never complain about rain yet when it isn’t it is so windy! I too find the wind exhausting! Years ago after working a midnight shift I found an old radio flyer wagon in the garbage! I pulled over and put it in my car. This became my “wheel barrow “ and hand truck! I still love it!
We are located in Western North Carolina and the winds have been strong here too. A little out of the ordinary. Can’t wait for warmer planting weather!! Enjoy your channel so much!!
Yes, Linda, it has been very windy here, too….zone 6 New England. Last month we had brutal winds, and while not as bad so far this month, it is still more windy than normal. We are getting a lot of rain as well. I bought a large gorilla cart a several years ago to move things around in my yard. I absolutely love it….and it dumps. I always mix my soil in it. I load it with with everything I need and pull it to the area where I’m working. I use a large trug for my weed and debris, a small one for my tools, and a seat on wheels (can’t get on my knees anymore). I buy large bags of assorted fertilizers and put them in small containers….grated cheese, laundry scent beads, any plastic container that works and label them. This way I can pour out some fertilizer where I’m working and not have to bring the bags with me. I also bought large plastic trash cans on wheels with covers for yard debris. Then I can just pull them over to compost or out to the street for yard waste pickup. I don’t like those awful paper bags. They fall apart when they get wet and make a mess. I’m a big fan of wheels. At 77 with knee, back, and foot issues I’ve had to find different ways to garden.
Richmond VA, zone 7, weather here has been cool, very breezy with lots of rain. I am waiting for warmer temps before planting my containers with annuals, etc. I have only replaced two boxwoods in containers, planted a few candy tuff plants, and cleaned and filled my patio fountain. Waiting to for the pollen to calm down too before washing the patio and uncovering my chairs. I have lived here for six years and have found what plants do best in various locations. Front yard gets west sun, patio gets mostly shade, and back yard hot morning sun and glare off the window boxes. Within the next weeks conditions should improve. 🥰
The best present my husband bought me was my little trolley and like you I can move around the garden and mixing soils to match the plants. Love the geraniums, I’ve just cut mine back and they come back for a lovely autumn and winter show. I hate the wind too 🇦🇺 cheers Bronwyn
I live south east of Dallas and our winds have been horrendous this spring. Ready for these March ( it is April after all) winds to STOP. Beats you to pieces just doing regular chores. However, the early morning hours are calm so that's when I get things done. Love your videos and have learned so much from you over the seasons. Keep up the great work. Thank you 😊
I too use a wheelbarrow or a galvanized bucket to dump potting soil and mix in homemade compost or Land and Sea compost. I usually take out about half of the old potting soil and it either goes in my compost or to fill in low areas in my yard. I fill I with new mix. Lots of wind in Texas; we are under Red Flag warnings due to lack of rain and high winds. Everything dries out really fast and there’s a high fire danger. Thanks for the tips.
Zone 9 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and it has been very windy here all day which made it pretty chilly. I do only container gardening so your recipe for using old potting soil is quite helpful for me. Thanks to you and Stewart.
I do love your videos. I also mix my potting soil (some old and new), compost, worm castings and perhaps a sample or two of organic fertilizer from a local nursery into my pots. Wheelbarrows are the best potting benches I've owned.
Well, I have my coffee in hand and headed back to bed to "lounge" a bit and enjoy this vlog! Container gardening will be at the top of my list once we move! This summer, I told myself to just start with containers and get a "feel" for what types of gardens I would like in the future. I am definitely going to look for those great potting bags. Here in Kentucky, we have experienced a more windy springtime too! At this point, however, I wouldn't say we have experienced much springtime!! Our weather has been ALL OVER THE PLACE and we are getting quite weary!! One day will be close to 70 and then, the next day the temp will drop and we will have sleet and snow...GADS!! We are zone 6 here. Actually, I looked it up and we have 2 zones, A and B. I live in a little town close to Lexington called Versailles ( home of Woodford Reserve Bourbon!!..lol) and we are zone 6b. The 2 zones have to do with weather variation. Anywho, I cannot wait to have warm, CONSISTANT weather and be settled in our home so I can get outside and enjoy some much-needed GARDENING TIME! Oh...and of course, kick back with a nice "Old fashion"! Thanks for a wonderful watch! Love and blessings to you and Stewart!
Great geranium planter idea. Love your teaching videos. Just received your "The Elegant & Edible Garden" book yesterday. Great pictures and garden ideas. Started reading front to back. You have a warm insightful way of writing that makes a delightful read.
In Pensacola fl zone 8b/9 the wind was brutal today I mowed and my bag of debris was flying around I’m sure the wind gust were upward of 25 mi he.. but however the sky was blue and low humidity mid 70’s perfect day in the yard I spent all of 6 hours!! Thanks for your video to you & sweet Stewart!!💕
I live in Colorado 5b where the winds have been 50+ this past week. It’s supposed to drop to 29 tonight. I bring a few annuals indoors at night but the rest are perennials and just getting started. Since moving to town, my whole garden is in pots. My tip would be to buy big enough pots. Don’t skimp on size as it will make a big difference in how well your plants do.
I am in Malakwa BC and it is always very windy here in the West Kootenai Eagle Valley. That said it is so much windier this year already. It is still cold is here. Zone 5b-6a. May 24th is our last official frost date but we had frost June 4th last year and I had to call up all my reserve plants. Last year I invested in a huge Garden Cart. Solid bodied with 4 air filled 12" tires. I love it! I usually add my spent soil to my compost pile. Makes great brown matter with dried grasses. I did just start a strawberry garden reconfiguration. Back breaking labour but it is half done in 2 days, so I should be finished in another 2 days.
I have a cart with all my needs… fertilizer..pruners.. alcohol to sanitize … sprays..irrigation system parts. I just take off with my cart once a week to keep on top of things (: love it!
Zone 7B/8A planting requires special accommodation for heat and drought. The early start is critical to get roots going along with a drip irrigation on timer. Using Biotone from Espoma in the hole is fantastic to start the roots and fertilizes during the season . Plants require more fertilizer than we realize especially if you want abundant flowers.
LOVE the fabric container idea! I’ve used those cardboard rose (?) containers for portability as I usually just pot shrubs and perennials any more, but this would be even better, and more roomy, and yes, would be perfect for your QVC baskets!! 🥳🥳. What a fabulous idea! Do they last more than one planting season? So excited about this little cool trick! 💜💜
Yes, I have been using the wheel barrow (like you) since my old back can't bend easily. Very good video, I must fine some of those interior 'bags' . Thank from Australia.
Great show Linda! I live in southern Minnesota. Zone 4 and we've had so much wind this winter. Snow on the ground yesterday. Great tips today. A local garden center told me to be "ruthless" with my geraniums. On the first day of spring they said to cut them back 2/3 and they will bush out when they are moved outside in the spring.
Hello everyone, I use Soil Moist in many of my containers in Oklahoma City. Gorilla Cart is an awesome garden cart. Stewart is a great video guy that has lots of valuable knowledge. Glad to hear his input. Best idea, the fabric planter. The wind drives me insane and gives me headaches.
Linda. You have the most beautiful plants. Love your beautiful yard. So nice. I am in. Zone 9a. Alot grows here all year long. Love your gardening ideas. So nice. Thanks for all your tips and tricks. Thanks so much! Your videos are great!
Yes, I also use the traveling wheelbarrow potting area. I still use my potting bench area for the smaller pots; but I have been using fewer small pots and a controlled amount of the bigger( thus heavier) pots.
I have numerous hostas in containers. They all come back year after year. In the fall I cut back the dead foliage and cover the pots with the fallen leaves. It's great for protection during the winter (NJ zone 6a) and mulches them as well.
Yesterday, Friday was extremely windy and brrr cold in River Valley Arkansas. In fact the past 3 days have been windy and cool. Makes it hard to go out to work in the gardens. I’m so ready for warm days to stick around.
7a Maryland. We've had wind but drenching rain has been more of a problem. Am starting to plant more natives and plants that tolerate wet soil. Containers are great for keeping plants out of wet soil and allowing drainage.
Hi Linda! It’s still winter here in northeast Ohio! It’s been very windy also. I just made a pot of Italian wedding soup for dinner. I thought soup days were over! I love your videos, thanks for all of the garden tips!
I reuse dirt when I change out the plant. Todays my birthday the Big 70 lol. Does Stewart have a mic so we can hear him talk? Love your earrings, blouse and jacket.
I am in zone 7B in Alabama and the wind has been really bad and cold. Tonight and tomorrow night should be our last frost. I like your card idea to move soil around. Thank you so much!
zone 6b in the Ozarks. yes! we have had 50 to 60 mph winds! it even snowed a bit today. I use my gator to pull around my soil, amendments, rake, plants, watering can etc. BUT, I usually forget something and have to go back. lol. it sure makes it easier though.
One of my favorite flowers that i plant, pink geraniums!!! Love the ivy geraniums and I do have a few from last year still surviving. And i usually always plant the scented geraniums, they can become quite large!!! Thanks for tips, I do save my old potting soil from pots I empty in fall. And i use the plastic bigger black supplier pots to put in my big urns that are very hard to handle, empty. Still cold in NE Ohio, not sure when we will get Spring weather here to stay, very disheartening. So much to do but way too cold!!!
Your gardening is challenging Thank you for sharing all these ideas Geraniums are wonder easy to grow and to well in my garden in South Africa Thank you for the great videos and to Stewart excellent camera work
I adore geraniums, and have a lot of them outside all around my house, especially n my front garden and on my porch. They grow so easily from cuttings, particularly trailing ivy ones. I always enjoy the nice smells as well as apperance.
@@juliecarns I've always had good luck just sticking pieces into pots of soil. Usually I'm adding them to pots that already have something growing in them, like other colors/types of geraniums, which i just did this afternoon. If they're not ivy/trailing geraniums they can get "leggy" and I just break or cut off pieces, trying for spots where there's a "node" and some new growth right below it. With ivy/trailing geraniums, the stems usually have an easy-to-spot "bend" which is a good place to take cuttings.
Hi Linda, yes it is cold and windy in Hokes Bluff/Glencoe Al. I’m zone 7b and we are supposed to have a frosty morning SATURDAY. I usually wait till after April 15 to do most of my pots and planting. I use a wheelbarrow to.
Years ago I bought my wheelbarrow from a neighbor who was moving - $3 !!! I live in an urban setting and use it all the time during all seasons. Had to laugh - I too use the wheelbarrow like a large 'mixing bowl'.
Zone 5b. It’s been crazy windy here! I have been gardening in fabric containers for several years now. It’s been a game changer. I haven’t been able to figure out how to overwinter them though. Our winters can be moist and the fabric can get moldy when stored in the garage.
I brought barefooted geraniums from Washington state this past winter. It was a freezing drive but I did have some survive. My favorite is the rose scented! I will be using your grow bag method inside a container idea. Thank you
Texas 8b. I would say, buy a decent, but not pricey potting mix and then add your own specialities to it. Such as perlite or peat moss for a loftier mix, fertilizer that might be specific to what you're planting, lime/sulfer, etc. I have noticed the last year, formulations for potting mixes seem heavier (more like compost), so I have been adding a few things to customize as needed. The wind here has been bad as well. Even worse with it being so dry. I have had so many times outside where I had debris fly in my eye. The wind really wears you down and dehydrates you more.
You grow girl 🌱🍃🦋✌️❤️
Linda, I am in zone 8a (Eastern Virginia). We have had extreme winds as well. This is the first year I can remember waking up to broken pots and patio items tipped over. I do a great deal of container potting on my patio and you have been so helpful with this. Several years ago, I began trying to fill most of my pots with perennials and/or evergreens and this has been very helpful. I save a few for pretty annuals as well. Sending you sunshine from VA❣️
Thanks dear
I am in zone 7a and overwintered my scented geranium in a cool basement. Thank you Linda, for showing us how to conserve our plants and be thrifty.
I love this idea, so good for conserving water 🌊👌
Grow bags, I love them!!! I planted my extra tomato plants in the 10 gal last year and they did better than the ones in the raised bed. I also planted Okra, potatoes, and peas in them. They did fabulous. But you gave me an idea with my potted flowers I love! Use the smaller grow bags in the containers and I can move them if need be. Also I load up my gorilla cart my son got me for Mother’s Day with all my supplies to garden. Thanks Linda!
Hi Debbie.
Oh, and it's been windy here, too.
So jealous! I need one of those Gorilla carts.
I loved seeing you actually preparing the soil and planting. Great tips. A picture (video) is worth a thousand words!
Hi Jean.
Excellent idea! Love the idea of a pot so chipmunks don’t eat them.
Brilliant! I have about 30 dahlias potted up and waiting to go outside (beginning of June in my zone 4 garden) and will definitely be trying this out. Thanks Jeannine!
Because of you my love of gardening has come back. Thank you 😊
Omg I love your conversations with Stuart!!!!!!it is classic man woman reparte!!!!
Hi Stewart!
Such a simple idea “ Mobil station”, I love it and I will be implementing that TODAY, thank Mrs.LV. 🙏🏽
Zone 7b, W. TN
YES about the wind!
Thankyou Linda & Stewart. Ontario Canada 🐝🇨🇦
I am a fair weather gardener and NOTHING is out of my shed yet.😭 I sure enjoy watching you handle this weather pattern , inspired as I am I’m staying inside.
lol!
I live in ga and the wind has been blowing all day. just sitting down to watch your video and love it. hope winds calm down for all of us.
Love the idea of portable planters.
Your absolutely right. It is exhausting when your getting blown about!
What a fun adventure
@@LindaVater ❤️😘
Yesterday, Saturday in zone 9b it was extremely windy and chilly. Many times it gets chilly around Easter but the wind was a lot. Regardless, it was a beautiful 71 degrees. Wish I had room to store a wheelbarrow, but the planting bag is something I can use. TY 🤗
Zone 9. Not much wind here in Los Angeles, but the temperatures got up in the 80s all of a sudden. Thank you Linda for another great video!
Wonderful preparation I have Wonderful preparation I have been using this type of system for quite a while Maybe not with so many additives that you do so I will begin to add more I actually use the little things that come in Packaging curly queues sometimes hold sometimes I chopped them up sometimes I put them in a old blender I have an old blender in my shed I can use and it works wonderfully thank you for all your advice and comments looking forward to more
Hello Linda
What great tips for repotting👏 Especially using old soil. No wastage. Splendid😘😎🎉
Love it!
I love to reuse things when possible! Thanks for the great video, Linda.
We are still loving your videos.
Perlite is great and always dampen to minimise dust.
We are in autumn in Melbourne, but always welcome your advice.
One of our favorite Bourbons lol!
Great geranium planter idea. Love your teaching videos. Just received your "The Elegant & Edible Garden" book yesterday. Great pictures and garden ideas. Started reading front to back. You have a warm insightful way of writing that makes a delightful read.
How kind!
Same weather here in 9b central Florida today; it was wonderful!
Excellent episode Stuart and Linda !🙌
Mine have!
@@LindaVater Excellent! Thanks for answering…I just ordered a pack! 🤗
Yes, I have been using the wheel barrow (like you) since my old back can't bend easily.
Very good video, I must fine some of those interior 'bags' . Thank from Australia.
Zone 9 Southern California, today sunny and hot,96 degrees. Love planting in containers
Exactly!
6B Springfield Missouri. Yes we have been having crazy wind! But to be fair we usually have crazy weather here. I love working in this weather 🤗
Happy birthday girl! 🤗🤗
Hi Teri.
Do you put geranium cuttings in water? Then what? I must be doing something wrong. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Julie 🌷
I'm zone 8, British Columbia, Canada and winds have been fierce!
Linda I’m just a little north of you in Kansas and boy am I tired of the wind!
I am in New Jersey 7A. I can’t remember ever having such a windy late winter early spring.
Great description
Zone 5b. It’s been crazy windy here! I have been gardening in fabric containers for several years now. It’s been a game changer. I haven’t been able to figure out how to overwinter them though. Our winters can be moist and the fabric can get moldy when stored in the garage.
Hi Carol.
Loved your soil mixtures, and your repotting tips. By the way-- Your garden is lovely!
I’m in Georgia zone 8a
And it’s been incredibly windy and today it’s turned chilly. Crazy weather. Stay safe!
Putting the grobag in so you can easily remove the plant is brilliant
Stuart, international man of mystery.
Yup😂
We LOVE ❤️ Stewart!!😍
