The Burn heal makes a lot more sense when you realise it's Item ID Was the same Item ID as Moonstones in Gen 1
Guessing that the Moon Ball was programmed much early in the game's development before they switched up the IDs.

The Moon Stone was item number 10 in the gen 1 item list, the catch formula for the Moon Ball checks for item number 10, which is a Burn Heal in gen 2.

@@MattTOB618 I’ve actually seen a Fakemon that does that. It was a little guy with a cold that would evolve if you gave it a Burn Heal or Ice Heal. One evolution would have a high fever, and the other would have the chills. It was a really cool concept.

Theory: there's that building you have to go through to enter the park. You play as a child, so it could be that children may enter the park for free, while adults have to pay a fee in that building. That's how they fund the bug catching contest

Johto wasn’t INTENDED to have two regions in it, it was only considered partway through development when one of the programmers (I think it was Iwata?) realised he could optimise the region to make it small enough to fit. Johto’s problem wasn’t “there wasn’t enough time”, it was “our criteria changed midway through development” - something that the OW2 devs will gladly tell you is a fucking arsepain

@@EinDose No he did not. What he did was make the game load faster, the reason Kanto is in the game is because Gamefreak used a bigger cartridge
I always thought the special pokeballs didn't work right, but they did look pretty :)
Actually, they did change the capture mechanics in gen 8. Before you complete the main storyline, it is harder to catch pokémon that are higher leveled than the pokémon you're battling with. I believe raid battles work differently, but this applies to every regular wild capture.
The friend ball is OP for getting Crobat early. I think it evolves at 220 friendship so if you catch a zubat or golbat, you only have to raise it a few levels. That and the Lure ball are definitely the only ones worth using. Speaking of weird catching mechanics in Gen 2, if one of the legendary dogs uses Roar, it counts as the battle ending and not a flee. So if they roar you away, they are gone forever.

Actually the Roar thing is only a bug in Gen 3, not Gen 2.

This makes me want to see patterz do a Full Item Randomizer of Crystal. FIR Randomizes ALL of the items in the game INCLUDING Badges. You can find a badge on a tree if you're lucky
NOT badges, that's how you softlock yourself by making a badge in an area you can't reach after beating the league or unattainable in a different way.

It seems like just yesterday when I learned exactly how broken Level Balls actually are. But it was, infact a few days ago.

@@MidnightCapricorn2696 Sorry for the late reply, but its probably for balancing reasons. Like, having both would probably be too good. Think about it like this: All you would need to do is buy Dusk and Dawn balls together and you have a better catch rate than ultra balls 24/7.

Or if you use a burn heal on them. I'm actually kinda surprised we haven't yet gotten a pokemon that evolves when a specific status condition is healed. GF loves to make weird evolution requirements, and that seems like a pretty obvious one.
A pokemon that evolves after u heal it from a status at a certain level is def something that could of happened in gen 8 lmao

I think he's wrong... it's not that the special balls weren't used, but the players were all kids who didn't know how the sh*t worked... so we didn't know they didn't work right... we just thought we had bad luck....
Bro I love the Pokathlon. I was able to buy so many amazing items from there such as the evolutionary stones and the Metal Coat to evolve my Onix.

All the stuff only fit on the cartridge because of Iwata-san's last minute code wizardry.
Now they need to make make the burn heal a commonly used evolution item in legends celebi. Just a lot of Pokemon in ancient johto evolved using burn heals but none of them exist in the modern day.

You're mostly right, but the one catching mechanic between 7 and 8 that changed is crit captures. In six and seven they were good. Now they suck.
Gen 8 made no change to the critical capture mechanic.

As far as i know, in gen 7 the heavy ball would not work Beldum in SM but was fixed in USUM

I feel like it's been like that since maybe gen 4 or 5, but it could just be one of those rumors, like holding B, because I was always under the impression that my high level Pokemon "intimidated" the wild Pokemon to stay inside the ball, and it felt like it worked

The heavy ball is not broken in Gen7. According to its original intended coding, it shouldn't catch a wild Beldum for whatever reason.
That's not broken, it's just whoever thought Beldum is heavy does not have enough Pokemon knowledge. You weren't supposed to catch Beldum with a Heavy Ball.
I mean exactly. Y do so many people think Beldum is heavy? Even in the pokedata it clearly states that it is 209 lbs n heavy ball is supposed to work on Pokemon that r 220 lbs n heavier. 🤔
@@SIDASOKA In Gen 7 and 8, people don't use the Apricorn balls for their "intended" use. The vast majority of Apricorn ball discussion I see nowadays is about using them to catch shinies with matching colour schemes regardless of what they're supposed to be used for.

While working as coded, it is odd. In every game except Sun and Moon, if a Heavy Ball reduction causes a negative number, the catch rate is set to 1. In Sun and Moon, it sets it to 0 instead
@@Dylan-vs6sf Uh, actually no. I believe that was always the case before Sun and Moon, it's just you only got the Heavy Ball in the Jhoto games before Gen7. I believe you cannot legally use a heavy ball on a Pokemon with a negative catch rate value before Sun and Moon.
I want there to be a Pokémon In Gen 9 (or whatever Gen is coming next when this comment is read) that evolves via Burn Heal.
