The last printing of these will be on August 31st, 2018.
State Bike Co. sent over a 4130 Core-Line for me to review. The full review will come later, but in this unboxing, I build up the Core-Line and, unfortunately, get a lot of surprises.

I contacted State, and they have explanations for all of my concerns with the bike. Subscribe to watch the follow up to this vlog to find out if State Bike Co. can set this straight.
What were the explanations?
You know it's serious, when you break out in a sweat putting it together.
I had a similar but worse experience with my Warhawk. They sent me a replacement bike which turned out to equally crap. They never responded to my emails that followed.. So I had 2 crappy Warhawks. I sold one for $700, so they must be popular and the other I just beat on. When something breaks which everything eventually breaks, I just grab a part from my parts bin and make it work. So: Was my State experience good? Naaa not really. Am I pleased with my purchase? Yeah sure, all it cost me was time.
Enjoying getting the junk returned for free to give a "positive" review ? LOL
*great **Latest.Bike** , a little difficult understanding the penny picture for adjusting the front derailer. Once I figured it out it worked great!*
I considered this line from State, but now I'm glad I went with a Fuji Track which I could also get through my LBS. It was in perfect shape and I felt good about supporting a local shop. Thanks for the video.
I actually really enjoy my State Bicycle. I bought the exact same model you reviewed, and came across all similar issues as you, but I had vastly different expectations going in. My really nice fixie was just stolen, and the state bicycle was only $350 because of a stolen bike discount, so it was intended to be purely functional so I can get around town again, and I actually preferred it to look crappier so it would be less of a theft target. That being said, I quickly replaced the tires with 28C gatorskins, swapped the saddle for an old beatup brooks cambrium, and swapped the pedals for some old MKS ones.
One thing I really like about the state bicycle (besides the value), is the track dropout chain tensioners, which make tensioning a fixed gear chain so much more convenient and precise, many higher end fixie frames don't have this feature.
I have the Montoya (4130 core line) and it came with NONE of the problems you mentioned. I’ll be doing a video review soon but other then the box being damaged, the bike was in perfect condition.
I really really like that color! Super clean looking bike.
Can't wait for the review!
Good review so far... you tease... look forward to the next part...
This is so weird because i Just got my 4130 Rutherford 3 and i didn't have any quality control issues
Keep bringing it REAL🙏Good job👍👍
what did you put on the seatpost before clamping it on the frame? Thank You
The "bent" in the handlebar doesn't have to be a fault. There are several different handlebar types with different bends e.g. Merckx, Tour de France, Gimondi....
I live in Australia & recently bought a State Core Line bike. It is beautiful & rides like a dream straight out of the box. My local bike shop took a look at it & were genuinely surprised at the quality of parts for the money. There seemed to be the same amount of packing for my bike & it got to me fine so I think that the shipping of yours was the problem. I didn't get to choose handlebars on mine - they came with bullhorns which I thought I'd love but I hated. Instead I bought some steel pista bars from somewhere else which I find much more comfortable. I also changed the pedals to Crank Brothers Mallet's. Overall though I love State & would buy another bike from them any day. Look forward to hearing what you think of the ride.
I laughed too hard at the “barz” joke
The nightshade is now my beater, it has two small dents in the top tube now protected with bar wrap tape. LOL
Everything you pointed out in this vid is totally valid. No shame...
7:16 his oc chopper impression when things go bad lol
yeah state wanted points fur sure why else would they have sent you a purple sparkly bike. Glad you held up your guns and stayed honest with the review
Also do you have experience working at a bike shop?? If so? Please explain what u learned and how much more knowledge you get from hands on experience and how it changed how you look at bike now and back then
Loved this video, feels real.
I'm of the opinion that in this day and age it's virtually unacceptable to have to deal with damage from shipping, as in my experience it's _almost always_ a fault of the seller due to poor packaging. We all know by now that shipping can be a rough process and you're literally throwing your package on the pile with everything else. There's no excuse for not taking that into account and packing your product appropriately so it arrives to the customer as intended.
LOL so many Bars in here. They must think I'm a wrapper (rapper) hahaha
My 4130 is arriving tomorrow and I read somewhere on their warranty that I have to have the bike assembled by a professional or the 5yr warranty could be void.
I'm getting mine on Monday. So, did you build or have someone else do it
@@michaeldinunzio7019 i built it initially but had it checked and corrected by a shop and sent a photo of the shop's receipt to the manufacturer. I got an email back saying my warranty had been activated.
This objective review of the State 4130 is brought to you by Wabi Cycles.
wait sense when do 23c's need 100psi? I only ever put 80! YIKES
Great video!! Hilarious and educational.
Now i know what’s unacceptable or what to let slide, and that i need more 🍫 🍫
Thanks for keeping it 💯
I'm lucky to have just bought the frameset. It came in good condition. I wouldn't buy a complete bike.
A boats a boat but a box can be anything.
Vi Almonte it could even be a boat!
@Zach Gallardo it's Ozie Virto bro 👌
Yo dude really enjoy your videos keep it up. My first and only fixed gear is a state. They are ok, although I've made quite a bit of upgrades. Through watching your channel it's introduced me to brands I've never heard of. More specifically Engine 11, man those are beautiful bikes. Hopefully you can do a video on them in the future, but I plan on owning one once my money's right haha
Zach i understand your concerns when buying a bike.I would be upset also.I know Zach it can get really hot in Sac these time of the year.Find a building with AC when putting your bikes together.Ride safe.:}
Nice video i like it alot..
I think ur dog is looking in a light? Pointer maybe?😊
Any idea where the frames are built?
You mean, in Taiwan or China?
Saludo desde Venezuela buen vídeo😍😍😍😍
Got my shirt!
"low-key, do you like the bike"
I got this bike (same color) like 7 weeks ago. Returned the first one because it had weld spatters on the frame and I couldn't fit the saddle because the nut and bolt were missing.. Later found them loose somewhere in the large box but that's just wrong.
Anyway, I got that bike replaced. The second frame was ok. The wheels were like pretzels though. Trued them and they're fine now. I have done like 600 km up until now and I really like how it rides and how it looks. The brakes are very adequate too. Added a bottle cage, saddle bag and small pump. The saddle and my butt seem to agree. All in all it is a nice bike. Just QC could be a lot better as you can tell from this video as well.
Core line is the cheapest they promote right
It's ridiculous that State sent you a dented product, not to mention all the other poor packing issues you pointed out. But I suppose that's what happens when a company attempts to pack a complete bike in one box, instead of a seperate box for the frame and another for components.
yikes, so glad i looked up reviews for the core line. i feel like I dodged a bullet. thanks
ah, your content sir, is the best.
Also, i recently bought BLB Cleo singlegear for my girlfriend. Oh boy what a mess it was. Front fork dropout was bent inwards, i had to use some metal sandpaper for it to make front axle fit, one of the front brakes brakepad was jammed/smashed, and realwheel/chain was way too tight, cranks didn't really spin at all. I contacted Bricklane Bikes, and they apologized and sent me new front brake. Never again.
Yikes/oof 😬
I have had really good experiences with State and I also have a coreline and love it I guess mine just turned out alright
Some things at State haven't changed, i.e. receiving damaged parts. I bought a core-line from them many years ago and got a non-working freewheel, wheels out of true and bent fork. Took me over a month to get a new fork, albeit they succumbed and sent me a carbon fork at no extra charge.
If you remember me Zach, Jalen with the same exact frame, warning, my wheel was freshly tru'd by the bike shop but i did a fish and chips and the rear wheel just warped and bent. anyways i ended up buying a wheelset that came off of a merci kilo tt, i recommend getting a new wheelset if you plan on riding it often. Im a commuter from home to school and mainly all over Elk grove, i feel like if i hit one bump with those wheelsets, it was of bent and send me going down the overpass. Loved the unboxing, i got a couple dings too maybe on the next ride ill show you
Ps. Would u be willing to sell me your Sugino 75??
Your dog is called Lowkey?
He literally said it’s his roommates dog.. smh
Nice video, skinny tires look so strange to me now
Well its fun for us..
I was planning on getting this bike, but after seeing so many quality control issues I'm not so sure anymore :(
Ariel C i got it. Mine was alright and rides like a dream :) would recommend it!
Oh my goodness 😅
I like mine and I weigh 300lbs and ride daily
It’s a tank for a tank guy
I got mine with the deep v rims three years ago and they’re still laser straight
Every time I see somebody grease their seat tube it makes me angry as I bought a second hand bike with a frozen seat tube and i never knew to look out for it. I mean the height its stuck at is fine, maybe Id like to lift it 2mm but the damn thing makes me feel like selling the whole bike and buying another one
Kristo A - 2mm? Anyway, take the seat off, put a 2X4 on top of the post and smack it with a hammer, just enough to knock it free. Also spray wd around the collar first for a few days. If you have a heat gun or a blow dryer get it hot first. Yes I sarcasticly gave directions in reverse. BTW I never grease my posts ever. But my bikes live in my house, not outside.
I've seen some other people recommend clamping the seatpost in a vice grip with the frame upside down and then twisting the frame. The leverage from the frame is supposed to help you break it free... I could see it damaging the seatpost though depending on how tight you have to clamp it.
The Lazy Logician - Depends on your frame and how much you care about it. Worse case cut the post apart and remove it. I have several spares, I'll give him a proper one, don't sell your bike over it nor damage your frame.
If I can help and keep people riding is my only point. I don't message well and come across wrong sometimes. No offense ever intended.
The Lazy Logician I dont have access to a vice but that seems like itd do the trick
State bikes got their intentions in sending you this bike backfired
I had the same problem with the wellgo pedals when i bought mine had to upgrade it right away and bought straps since it doesnt come with one.
I bought mine from amazon Canada btw.
Really like the color
Agreed the dents unacceptable, but he seems happy he could give a negative review
I love your channel we are kindred cycling spirits stay Awsome.
Is it worth $450 Though
We'll see in the full review!
Zach Gallardo How would you recommend building a Planet X now that were on a biking subject
It's worth waiting for the mystery sale and getting it for 300.
Awesome Color Bike! Dope bike in general Brotha! Good review!
Yeeesssss about time you did a core line review👍👍👍👍
Got a used State 4130 with a Brooks C19 for under half that price and it didn't have the problems this new one did. Very unfortunate.
Look ok guys. I love state. I’ve had 2 so far over the years and I will say, I prefer the black label. Im a big fan of state, I love the company, but the core line bikes are ones I stay far away from. I hate the styling and basic components. It’s hard to talk good about a crappy bike tbh I get this video
Great! Can i have it?
You're reviewing the packers so far.
Unboxing, literally.
Where is your motivation??
Can someone focus his camera for him...
Don't worry, I accidentally dropped that camera, and now I'm switching to one with better autofocus. I got fed up with it as much as you.
Second
Just bought the SBC 4130. Man, what a POS! It looks like a 3rd grader welded this bike together. Should have gone with WABI. I wish I could upload upload pictures of this crap. I see better welds on Walmart bikes!
i gues its a used bike
print the main package, put on thousand of read manual sticker on it, useless reflector ... instead build a half way bulletproof good to ride bike . But in general (cheap) complete bikes suks and especially fixed gear is so much fun/easy to build custom +++ you get much better parts for 500$ light used or new in summer sale .. take time, build/buy over winter and next summer you could have the burner ass swag fast bike for he same money...
I bought a state bike. Luckily had a buyer for it. Went with wabi and never looked back.
Must be well savage.. you know. Pumping a tyre.. for a mate. Eh
and here's the deal. this is a model that they knew would be televised and reviewed. i don't blame you, 350-450$ is a lot of money. imagine what everyone else gets. the company is not paying for brick and mortar, sales staff, etc. so execution of delivering quality is assumed. cutting corners on that too, is galling.
and lastly, this gentleman is not a bike snob. he appreciates quality in a bike, and if state watched his channel, they would have qc'd those bike better before shipment. this is a free advertisement for them that will be seen by thousands for the cost of 200$.
State ripped off missippi states football logo
But wasn't this free for you lol😅
First!
Holy Shit I got noticed
just broke my collarbone for being unreasonably dangerous
Everything is not perfect
Holy shit I’m early! Gimme a heart zach
Yeah... State has unacceptable packaging... The bikes are great for the cash though.
5:11 125psi!
Zach I just got one of these. Should i be concerned about the weld quality of mine? ua-cam.com/users/shorts1KeCDpeo9KI
what a snob lol is a 450 complete bike bruh
I've reviewed multiple bikes at this price point, and all of my experiences have been better than this. I don't think I'm being overly critical when there's a dent in a brand new bike. Luckily, State has been responsive to make this right.
Please keep nit picking
So turns out cheap garbage bike is cheap garbage.
Can't wait for the review!
