GEAR USED: Starlo was running a 1000-size Shimano Vanford reel spooled with fine Kairiki braid, matched to a light 7'8" Shimano Premium T-Curve rod. (Equivalent rods from newer ranges include the wonderful 7'8" Shimano Artiesta 782SPUL model.) Steve attached a rod length of 6 pound Ocea FC fluorocarbon leader to his braid and used a small Mustad Fastach clip to swap between various lures, including an Atomic Jerk Minnow and Squidgy Wriggler soft plastic on a light (2g) jig head.
I have always taken great joy in that "I just touched an Electric fence" reaction when a fish "finally" strikes after a slow start. It is energizing and good for the next 100 casts (with Coffee) :)
G'day Starlo. I call them "Learning days". Sure not many fish. But what's can I take away from the day to improve on the next outing. What did I learn about fish behavior, lure choice and colour, etc etc. Still looked like a heap of fun.
Hi Steve. Great session and wonderful location. I was fishing from a suburban beach on Port Phillip Bay last night and had some good successes and made some mistakes. If we treat each fishing trip is a learning opportunity, then we get better each time and possibly enjoy the experience more. Kind regards MP
Thanks mate! A couple of those fish that followed but wouldn’t eat were crackers… I guess they didn’t get that big by being dumb, eh? I actually think I’d have had a better chance on them with a fly…
Hi Starlo , wow what a wonderful place ! Those trout were certainly giving you the run around but all part of the great experience . Really enjoyed the vid 👍
Enjoyed that one Starlo😊 Good exercise that type of fishing. I got a couple of blue threadfin yesterday morning. Gee dropped something big. It didn’t feel like a shark no head shakes?😊🐠

Well said! I totally agree.
Refreshing to see top anglers missing fish, it's the real world. Great content Steve 👏
Loved it ❤
Glad you enjoyed it, mate! Tight Lines.
