  • I review 2 great Sportsman generators for emergencies. One is propane and the other is a standard gasoline generator. They are the Sportsman 4000 and Sportsman 2000.

I'm surprised there's still people that don't worry about the grid failing and doesn't have portable generators. We have record breaking weather every year. And everything in a modern day home runs on electricity. I know some can't afford one but most stores have a lay a way plan. And they make cheaper low watt generators low as 1000 watts. Which will run a freezer and a lamp and TV.

I use the small Sportsman generators an absolutely love them. However the runtime is much longer per gallon of gasoline that is described in this video. I get about six hours per gallon of gasoline in the 2000 watt generator. But the power output is very low so you want to be careful of what you want to power up.

I like your channel and subbed. You are looking toward practical uses for products that could actually happen, power outage, tornado, ice, floods. Not ridiculous stuff like i.e. "Zombies". Greetings from Austin!

The 4000/3250 should run a fridge and a window unit, maybe a lamp, too.

Propane is more than a dollar a gallon my friend... its more like a dollar a lb , 20lbs equal around 4 gallons,,, and the power factor os about 20 percent less than gas..... but its storage life os what makes propane the perfect fuel... usually when that major storm blows through and your city is having a crisis ,,, gasoline is the first commodity that disappears...

Fuel is the hardest thing to get right before, during and even after a blackout. Your solution will only work effectively if you incorporate a properly sized fuel storage solution NOW. I cant tell you how many of my neighbors simply ran out of gas during Sandy. There was no getting more gas. Another concern is security. A few folks woke up with lawnmowers running instead of their generators. So you will need to post a guard or chain it up.

I know this is an older video, but that 2000 watt generator isn't likely to run your freezer or refrigerator. Mine won't run either.

      1500 watts at 120 volts = 12 .4 amps
Should be more than enough to pull a refrigerator, freezer or up to 8000 BTUs of window unit.

Something is wrong with either your refrigerator or generator.

I have this exact small 2000 watt generator and have had it for 7 years. Only use it about 2-3 times a year, when power goes out. It runs my 18 cu ft. fridge and 1/3hp sump pump no problem. I don't power anything else, just these two items.

Idk where you're getting propane at for a dollar a gallon,, around here it cost 20 bucks to fill up a 20lb tank, thats 4 bucks a gallon since propane is roughly 4 lbs to the gallon... and the 100 lb tank I filled cost me around 70 bucks ,,, so that 20 gallons of propane was over 3 bucks a galoon

I think he meant 1 dollar a pound... so 20 dollars for 20 pounds is what he pays also

I have a propane dealer that refills my 20 lb bottle for $12. At places where you trade bottles it's like $20 and you don't get 20 lbs and you may get an expired bottle in return, so get your own bottle and shop around.

@@PlasmaStar9 you ain't gettin a 12 dollar refill in Illinois,,,, and even Ross the river ,,, in Missouri its 15 bucks,,, and that was a year and a half ago,,, I'm sure its way more than that now,,,,thanks to our demented ate up president creepy joe..
