    So hard to find 100% on point accurate nothing more than you need videos like this! Brilliant work!
    Sick and tired of all the reviewers who don't do their homework and don't really know what they are talking about to the core of it, and then turn half of it into a vlog.

    You have given a very clear and concise explanation of how the various lens to camera body spacing devises work and when a photographer would use one of them to provide a desired image. Thankyou.

    Thank you. This was an excellent explanation and happens to answer a question that was on my mind. I am just putting kit together for a BMPCC4k and was considering a Rokinon EF mount lens over a native MFT. I wanted to know how a passive adapter (no optics) would affect anything, if it all. Since people use adapters all the time, I assumed there wouldn't be a problem. This video gave me a solid technical view. Having the EF will allow me to use a focal reducer at some point. Thanks again, Dave!

    Love your detailed explanations of these things. I can see something like a macro-extension being a cheaper way of being able to switch from 'normal' focus distances to closeup, we just have to waste some time 'fiddling about' taking it on and off. (as with all things in life, we compromise :) ).
    Learning so much about photography (and other stuff) watching your channel, thank you.

    I was not previously familiar with Speed Boosters (as I currently have no use for them) but this is one of the best explanations of all these lens manipulation devices!
    🤓
    I know I can trust your explanation of Speed Boosters as I know for a fact your explanation of the other devices is correct!

    Perfect explanation.
    There are some physical realities how things go that if you know that as photographer/videographer you can use that. You don't need the biggest sensor to get an expected result, just a wide enough lens ;)

    Excellent content, convincingly presented, effective overlay graphics, as well. Follow up vid to dove tail w/this one would touch on AF and EXIF data via presence/absence of electrical contacts and af motor links. Build quality, and embedded firmware for some adapters to top off.

    That's an excellent explanation of what's going on with all these sorts of adapters. Would you by any chance have a recommendation for extension tubes for full-frame Sony e-mount (possibly an affiliate link so I can spread the love?)

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  5 років тому +1

      thanks Nick - these are the extension tubes I use on my Sony - geni.us/Extensiontubes - they have the electronic contacts so you can keep autofocus and aperture control

      @@DaveMcKeegan Awesome! Thanks again!

  • @AndrejAndrejev
    @AndrejAndrejev 5 років тому

    I'm curious is it technically possible to create a speedbooster that corrects flanche distance like teleconverter but in opposite direction? Something that could allow full frame e mount lenses to be mounted on aps-c e mount cameras and giving one stop of light

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  5 років тому

      Unlikely as a speedbooster for the same mount lens would act like an extension tube and screw up infinite focus and the amount of optics needed to correct it would probably completely undo any potential gains in light anyway.

    Again, great video. I have a couple of specific questions I cannot get my head around:
    1.- Is there a speedbooster to use Nikon FF glass on Nikon APSC bodies?
    2.- If so; Would that glass behave in DOF as in FF? I believe it should because as I re-gain full field of view of the lens, I would get closer to my subject to compose ergo decrease my DOF. Right?
    Thanks!!

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  5 років тому +1

      Unfortunately not because the speedbooster not only need FF glass to APS-C sensor but also needs DSLR lenses to mirrorless body as the greater flange distance leaves room for the speedbooster to go
      If Nikon release an APS-C mirrorless then we'd likely see a speedbooster for using FF DSLR lenses with it, in the same way there are speedboosters for using Canon FF DSLR lenses on their EOS-M bodies

    Question, is there any adapter to getting more aperture without having to get a speedbooster with a new lens or will I just simply have to get a new lens? :v

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  3 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately not because the aperture is inside the lens and how much light is able to get through the lens, the adaptor doesn't come into the equation
      The only way to have more light getting through the lens is to have a lens with a wider aperture

    Look at that always dirty Sony sensor there! I mean at least Sony and Nikon and Fuji have bare sensors as they are easy to clean, but Canon is too stupid for having the shutter blades exposed. Don't buy a Canon EOS R it will not last long for full time professionals!
