OEX Jackal 3 Unveiled: First Pitch & Review - Unleashing the Potential of this Remarkable Shelter!

  • In this week's episode I head out to review & test the OEX Jackal 3. It's a 3 season tent but could well be a 4 judging with how close to the floor it sits and also along with superb mess pole inserts to save them from snappjng under wind pressure.
With it being cheaper than its sister the 2 man version Leon though why the heck not and purchased it for us to have a look at.
She's a big unit but still not too bad, you get a decent large bag it comes in that gives you no hassle at all in getting the tent back in to it. It's a two pole tent were the inner attches after the shell is erected which is a massive bonus.
There's mesh that reaches over each of the pole inlets to allow for wind in harsher conditions so for you guys who enjoy camping up high its a real plus point.
I also have my Kelly Kettle with me to cook up some real nice spicy food on a cold winters afternoon. On the menu this week is Chinese Salt & Pepper Chicken cooked over a wood fire using the Kelly Kettle cookset.

Hello Bjorn, yeah the Kelly is great mate, so much fun! Yeah I reckon it will do just the job mate, possibly the full 4 seasons mate.
Ahh cheers mate, it's a great dish that the kids enjoy for sure. Thanks very much for watching and your comment. Cheers, Ant 👍

Nice one Ant and great tent Leon! Looks roomy, with a decent bathtub on the inner, nice low profile and generous vestibule - the integral groundsheet is ace. Top food and a good day in the woods as ever. ATB lads 👍

Used the Jackal III for the first time at the weekend. It's a really good tent, but there are two things that I would change. The inner really needs fasteners or a peg loop in the middle as anything heavier than a sheet of paper in the pocket pulls the sides in, meaning that you need to push your kit bag up against it. Same for the top. A fastener or a short strip of velcro attached to the outer would lift it, giving an extra two inches headroom in the middle. A couple of poles to make a porch from the door would be handy too. I will likely add the velco myself the next time I use it, and probably the poles too. Other than those two little details, it's a solid tent for the price, £79.99 at time of purchase.

Hello mate, yeah it's a bloody good tent for sure isn't it. Leon hasn't mentioned that he's found any issues with it, I'll ask h8m next time I see him. Yeah a little DIY is a good thing, makes it more your own doesn't it mate. Thanks, Ant 👍

    what means :
There's mesh that reaches over each of the pole inlets to allow for wind in harsher conditions
and what is the close to floor 4 season thing mean

    • @AntSurviveTheNight
      @AntSurviveTheNight  Рік тому +1

Hi Niko, yeah there is mesh material that stretches over the poles to allow the wind to blow through putting less stress on the poles.
Yeah, the tent needs to be below and onto the floor to protect from weather such as snow fall.
      Hope that helps pal, Ant.

Oh mate, that salt n pepper chicken looked amazing. Leon’s Tent looks great. I like the porch area and the way the door works with the top vent. Could cook in the porch in bad weather. I have an OEX Rakoon tent and it’s great. The overlapping poles are a bit bendy when the wind gets up though, but the Jackal pole set up looks much better and it looks like it’s outer pitch first too. Great video Ant 👍

Another great video Ant. Just a word of advice, when you take the kettle off when it’s boiling, use both hands and have the handle at a 90 degree angle to the kettle. This will stop you potentially burning your hand. Keep up the good work.

Hi Ant loved that chilli chicken made my mouth water 😋👌 ive got the OEX rakoon II cheap as 55 snots and a very good tent 👍 just a couple of tips on the kelly kettle chief ( not trying to teach you to suck eggs ) the hole on the side of the fire base should always point to the wind ( I noticed you blowing into it ) And the big AND if you tip the fire base upside down ( when packing away ) the base will sit inside the actual kettle , hope this helps 👌 I bet you run off to try this 🤭👍

I've a whistling kettle an' all pal cost me a fiver from Boyce's in Nelson ages ago....lol. Bit heave for me to carry with the rest of my stuff. Iwork to the plan that a 1 man is for dogs, 2 man for one human and so on. I have a 3 and 4 man tent very similar - nice tent the Oex. Thee were making me slavver there lad. Fried chicken one of my guilty pleasures. Tonight is home made pizza - using slightly too dry naan breads. I am on it - car bonnet. Little night in the tent me thinks tomorrow night.
