Jinjer is the greatest thing to happen to metal in a long time. Not because they're necessarily the best metalcore/groove metal band there is, but because of the different people they are inspiring. Plus they have the whole package, obviously. Super talented!

I love watching vocal teachers watch her sing and just them watching metal because they always seem so much more excited for the next heavy section to see what these people can do and how it just mystifys us but to them they are amazed at the true skill it takes

Song instantly became one of my favorite performances of all time, well in my 49 years on the planet being a metalhead and general fan of all music. It is so triumphant. The vocal styles complement the lyrics. The "girly" parts as you called it are the vulnerability, the growly parts are the pushing forward with determination. It's such a perfectly crafted song, and the instruments/mix and the performance that was captured here. Very intense, very personal yet relatable. Instant classic.

You can easily detect people with ears and those without. Especially when everyone putting conscious attention to the lead singer, those who listen to a lot of music start to headbang at heavy riffs and snares during heavier parts just naturally, unconsciously, even if they do no dig heavy music.

What's even more impressive with Tatiana is that she can switch back and forth between the two within a breath and do it all while bouncing around a stage like she in the middle of the moshpit.

Her vocals are largely layered... She does it in concert with no effects and it is awe-inspiring - but in this track, her vocals are layered, including the screams - giving it an otherworldly effect.

People always wonder how she can go back to the clean sound so easily. It's all because she isn't ruining her vocal chords in the growl. She has perfect control of those false folds. The end from growl to belt is the harder part

I've enjoyed reactions from voice teachers/vocal coaches because they seem to appreciate the technique and skill that goes into each style of singing and I also learn a lot. Could you react to literally anything with Anneke van Giersbergen (Bands include Vuur "My Champion", The Gentle Storm "The Storm (live)", Devin Townsend Project "Numbered (live)" The Gathering "Waking Hour (live 25th anniversary show)... Honestly, she's been part of so many projects I lose count, but anything with her, you can't go wrong.

After watching 6-8 of your reactions/comments I felt I had to subscribe. So count me in. As usual, this was an excellent and informative reaction. One wonderful thing you have in common with other really good vocal coaches is a willingness to admit a weakness or lack of complete knowledge and to just do the best with what you know. It really adds to your credibility. It also makes it easier to accept critical comments from you. Thanks.

Is that like documented fact? I've heard people say that but to me it sounds like she's belting that shit, it sound from the diaphragm and throat. When i heard the term fry scream i went and looked up some videos etc. It sounds weak compared to this. This sound like full death growl and throat. Also you seems like her stomach tightens up when she does it. But idk, it could also be the mix that's helping it out. At any rate she's fucking awesome.

“Wow, I don’t know what to say...” 😆. That’s exactly what I thought! But you struck on exactly the things I picked up on: she actually has diction and enunciation during the “screamo” part! But most of all, every part, whether light and calming or deep and raw, is all so EFFORTLESS! I could not see or hear ANY strain at all. That part is what just blew my mind. She IS an expert! Such voice control is so very rare. I hope she finds a lot of success....

For those wondering her harsh technique is called False Chord. Vocal Fry is a totally different technique with a similar sound. Both have unique characteristics. Also your understanding of harsh styles are a little off. It's not a rasp. The microphone isn't doing as much work as you think. 100% it's as powerful without a microphone. I use Fry screams myself, and utilize false chords here and there. Fry uses very little air, and can be as quiet as a talking level, or as loud as a drunken dumbass in a bar lol. False chords however require a ton of air and really works the diaphragm. Its also the harder of the 2 styles and can easily cause lifelong damage if you rush or do it wrong. Biggest tip: if you feel off, stop for a day or 2.

They put out a lot of good songs. I enjoy the female vocalists in Metal. Years ago the genre did not have a lot of women especially vocalists and I like a lot of the new bands. Tatyana does a lot of growling but also does a lot of clean vocals, it makes for an interesting mix. If you haven't heard of Alissa White-Gluz she does this too in The Agonist. I first heard Panophobia a couple years ago and I typically listen to it once a day since. Really good song. It opens with the growling and as it progresses moves into clean parts too. Intriguing lyrics as well. It's worth a listen just for your own curiosity. Thanks.

No one ever expects that, lol.... Tatiana has an incredible voice besides the growl.

If you liked Jinjer, I think you'd enjoy Jinjer's "I Speak Astronomy". I would really like to see you react to "3 Libras" by A Perfect Circle or Tool's "46&2". Tool and A perfect Circle have the same vocalist, Maynard James Keenan. His voice is something special.

Khemmis - Beyond the Door ... would like to see what you say to Phil Pendergast. Death growls or also screaming vocals are not easy to pull of, there are a lot of teachers today, whereas back in the day it was learning by doing and some seriously fucked up their voice... oliver from archspire even uses circular breathing for his techinque... crazy stuff.

I believe you would also enjoy the songs “perennial” and “teacher, teacher” by Jinjer if you liked this one

Reactions to Tatiana never get old. I'm wondering what the love/hate percent is for this band. I personally love them, but am a diehard metal fan. How many people are sucked in by her gorgeous singing voice and then turned off by the growl?
I disagree with the "her cupping the mike for effect" statement. While true of other singers, Tatiana doesn't do this while performing live, it's just not necessary for her. Great video and reaction!

You are correct. She doesn't cup the mic like many do. She's absolutely fantastic. Thanks for commenting. :)

I was thinking that when she said it, it isn't specifically this band but in general, the gutteral vocals are rather impressive with or without a mic when done correctly.

She's definitely not whispering the growl. She's definitely not depending on the mic for amplification. She can blow the doors off. Also, she's using both sets of chords for the layered sound. It takes years of practice to learn how to do that.
