Great instructions. My firmware is a bit older in my DIR-615 but I can't upgrade, it seems. The instructions were useful to setup the slave DIR-615 extending the network on the other side of a MoCA adapter. Thanks.
Now the advanced challenge is: connect the slave router to the master router wirelessly. This can get a much bigger WiFi range and saves laying cables all over the house. But how...?!? Im thinking it’s going to be an OpenWRT upgrade.
This is EXACTLY what I'd like to do! If you found out how, let me know. I did check the OpenWRT site, and they no longer officially support DIR-615 version E1 anymore. They said there's an old firmware version which MIGHT do the trick.. installing the latest might brick the modem cuz not enough memory... plus they said it's only good for 'basic' modem functions, so I don't even know if the wireless bridge would even be an option.. If you had any success though, LET ME KNOW!!! Thx..
@@giovannigee I tried it. OpenWRT in a DIR-615 is easy. Then give it a reserved IP on the DHCP server on router 1 and define this as the default WAN gateway on router 2. Here’s the page about it: openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dir-615
@@demil3618 I did manage to install openwrt but thought I bricked the modem when I disabled DHCP on it. Took forever to get back into the interface as it wasn't transmitting an IP. I finally let the windows diagnostic try to resolve it and actually reset the modem so I could access again. And I had little faith in windows diagnostic tools to begin with! I'm going to explore your idea at a later date.. going to end off on a high 😏 but thanks. The link you provided was just the firmware page. Will have to lookup more help on the bridge. I'll let you know if I make any progress.
@@giovannigee All the best. I remember being locked out by disabled DHCP. Reset button the only solution then (unless you did assign a fixed IP and remember it). The firmware is what you flash onto the router using the „firmware update“ Option in the menu. It will complain that it isn’t compatible (i.e. not OEM), just ignore it.
This is an excellent tutorial (albeit a little slow but allows you to follow along) if you are stuck with the old firmware versions of dlink. I'm just wondering if it's possible to setup a wireless bridge WITHOUT having to connect ethernet between the modems? I can do it with my newer Netgear Nighthawk modem and it improves internet speeds immensely (better than ISP prescribed!).. I'm wondering if it's possible with my old D-Link 615 ver. E1 build????
tried this but i'm already stuck on 0:30 , I've entered the ip-adress shown on the bottom of my to-be slave router and firefox sais: can't connect... can you help me? PLEASE
The default address is 192.168.0.1 type this into the address bar in your browser and press the enter key on your keyboard. If this doesn't work look at the back of your router and you will see a small hole on the far right side. Push a pen or pencil into this hole(there is a small button inside) and hold it for 30 seconds while your router is switched on. This will reset your router to the default settings. Retype the default address into your browser.
I think the problem is that when you change the router address it is no longer available under 192.168.0.1 but it should be available in the ip address you entered (e.g. 192.168.0.50).
About the time and date, you mention it can't be changed if I have the 'old software'... what do you mean by 'old software'? The router is running a NEWER firmware version than yours (5.00 vs your 4.14)...
this techniques do work. there must be a problem in the way youre carrying out them. the only problem i found is that this turorial has a gap in the asignation of the new ip-adress for the slave router, the ip-adress you choose has to be related with the IP address and the subnet mask of your network , and those values vary between diferent brands...here you have a better explanation ff how to do it apttech.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/how-to-connect-a-dlink-dir515-wireless-to-another-router-to-use-as-an-access-point/

Worked perfectly! Thanks!
I presume you need to set the IP address of the slave router to the same subnet at the master router.
Can I do this without a LAN line?
Did you have some kinda trouble with loading your voice?

Bull-shit... the first imagen was fake.
