Crest 4500

- This is my old 52" Crest 4500. It was bought in 1988 at Hechinger. The original contractors installed a variable speed dimmer switch for it, so after 20 years of use, the motor buzzes a lot on all speeds. It had cane blades, but we reversed them. It's installed on a 13' cathedral ceiling and covers the living room, dining room, kitchen, and entryway.
In this video, I'm just cycling the speeds so you can hear the buzzing. It's worse in the medium speeds, but it does make some noise on high and low as well.
As of June 2008, it was replaced with a Casablanca Panama. A video will come later. Enjoy! - Наука та технологія
This video brings back so many memories.
0 ceiling fans are safe for dimmers, dimmers are for lights. Some industrial ceiling fans are safe for a solid state speed control (fan dimmer).
YEP. But my school has ceiling fans on dimmers even on the non industrial
But why is that? I’m curious.
@@cadenweather1242 it seems like dimmer can cause NET DC which can somehow affect motor.
if the fan is hooked to a light dimmer then that's why its making noise. they say not to use those on ceiling fans because it causes a buzz and likely burn the motor out.
Our living room is attached to a dimmer but it only makes a hum when it’s a full speed
It’s the loudest ceiling fan known to mankind!
Cause of dimmer
What about zedextreme s ceiling fan?
@@Alexthefancollector RIP your years and your neighbours s ears if you did that XD
Trust me, it’s definitely not 💀
I have a fan that is so loud I can't even turn it on in my room it doesn't let me sleep
Whoa! That blew a ton of air like an industrial
and one thing what if the roof was very high and you had an ceiling fan but it did not have an light kit could i still use the dimmer switch
but my fans are industrial ceiling fans would it still cause an fire or electric shock ifits on wall control or a solid state control
I actually like the look of that ceiling fan
This fan sounds really cool. I'm in love with the place it is (was) in. I'd like to see a tour of that house if you still own it. Cheers!
Noisy air con in my house and I have q in my room
1988! wow...
1988? I wasn’t even born then
Bealtifull fanI love how its on a high ceiling this is my childhood fan video

Beautifull fan looks like it’s on a high ceiling
With solid state controllers, the fan(s) don't go very slow depending on the amount of fans, and they are primarily for industrial fans that would go in a gym, warehouse etc. Solid sate controllers are best used on fans frequently used on medium to high speeds
+Calvin DeJong Some solid state speed controls have minimum speed adjustment, so you can have a slow low speed without any stalling speeds.
Yes
my great uncle has some really rare and noisy fans like that! but the noisiest is the hunter original in the living room
The 2 42” Emerson Pro Series Ceiling Fans at my school were noisy on a variable speed control that broke and was replaced with a 3 speed wall control. The one of the Casablanca Four Seasons iii Ceiling Fans also at my school buzzes on a variable speed but, you can’t hear it when the tv is on but, you can hear it when the tv, the AC and the bath fans etc are
off
@jonahsfan He replaced it with a Casablanca Panama already as of June 2008.
It may be no problem to you for now, but in the future, it can burn out the motor or cause a fire. So I would suggest replacing a dimmer with a control made for ceiling fans.
As of the year 2008, this fan was replaced with a Casablanca Panama.
@@thechannelofrandomvideos789 I was replying to someone else who said about having their fans on dimmers, before the new UA-cam reply system.

also this fan buzzes just like the jc penny ceiling fan in my living room (study room) at my house (i am not really in there but it will become the living room one day and i will see showing the fan closer)
The fan uses potensiometer (Speed/slow,low knob)

NO ceiling fans can be on dimmer switches in ANY way, dimmers are only made for lights and can harm the motor.
How
@@Niko-nt4wn AC motor just isn't made for NET DC. and dimmer can cause NET DC since current chopping might not be symmetrical between both current directions.
@@CeilingFanVideosOnYT ok
It was buzzing because it was on a solid state speed control. I should tell you that solid state speed controls are not for noise sensitive areas. I don't know why the canes are on reverse, I don't own his house, and me and bc06142 are different people.
I think the fan wobbles a bit, I saw the pull chain shaking
It’s making that noise because ceiling fans are not supposed to be on dimmer switches
yes it is the speed control doing that. you might want to get a new one or something but i dont know which one to recommend because none of my fans have variable speed controls
I saw one of these at turks my favorite seafood restaurant

I would like to know what this house looks like from the inside. I really like the heigh ceilings. What is that thing that the controller rests on?
I don't know. But my grandmother has a fan installed on a variable speed dimmer and it makes a noise like this. But back in 2020 her husband replaced the motor and the variable speed control to a new motor and a switch control.

if the fan has a dimmer switch thats why its noisy. They say not to use it on ceiling fans because it makes them causes them to be noisy and burn out the motor.
This video is like 2 years old. I have an IT Casablanca Panama there now, I just need to upload the video.

Oil it should do the job does the motor have holes to allow you to oil it
That's not oil its humming
wo,wo,wo,wo,wo this is like a superhero
All the fans in my school are put on dimmers
i think im starting to realize why the dimmer switch is bad for the ceiling fan
It sounds like a fucking washer machine dude😂❤
That's actually a solid state speed control designed for fans. Even then, you're right, it's not safe for fans with 16 pole motor.
+Noah Adamcik There is a video of it on 3 factory speeds, and it's a lot quieter now.
I know, it's Derek's.

Casablanca Panama II is better than Crest even without a solid state speed control (it wasn't a light dimmer).
That fan sounds loud.
why is the fan buzzing and why is the cane on reverse
bejewelled man
1. Its on a solid state control
2. Idk
The fan is buzzing because it has a light dimmer on it that's what cause it to make that buzzing sound
Prob they liked it that way
That’s very loud!
why cant you use dimmer i have an ceiling fan with an dimmer and its no problem for me
Its not ment for dimmers, dumbass.
I hope the bulbs screwed into the light kit are dimmable or else the dimmer can burn out the built-in ballasts of the bulbs

Put dimmers on ceiling fan can cause to buzz and harm the motor. To replace the motor, you need a screwdriver and tighten up the screw and done
Puogayopjsrjsa Gandhi Its a variable speed control... and no, just no
CeilingFanCentral has it now and it’s perfectly silent without a control.
Make that sound with s put in solid state speed control
This ceiling fan is very loud
0:20 Fan turned into a haircutter in 5 seconds 💀
The culprit was that dimmer switch not the fan motor itself and
using wrong dimmer switches can cause the motor to overload or even worse it can cause a fire
The solution to fix the culprit was to replace the dimmer with a standard toggle switch
And if your ceiling fan has a pull chain speed switch. Speed control switches aren't needed
It's not a dimmer, it's a fan rated solid state speed control.
@@CeilingFanVideosOnYTso then the mystery must be old fuses
@@viktorgaragedoors331 Actually, a fan rated solid state fully variable speed control does normally cause hum, and is not for noise sensitive rooms. They are commonly used in industrial settings where noise is acceptable.
@@CeilingFanVideosOnYTif using the correct speed control switch didn't solve it
then the 3rd solution was to lubricate the bearings using 3 in 1 oil made for fan motors
@@viktorgaragedoors331 Oil would not stop the hum, hum is electrical noise, oil only stops or sometimes cause mechanical noise. CeilingFanCentral has it now and it’s quiet with just chains.

oiled this fan
It doesn’t need oil, it needs to be a on a normal wall switch
It's a solid state speed control causing noise.
There is a difference between electrical noise and friction noise. Oil only stops friction noise. The buzzing you hear is an electrical noise, it’s caused by windings dealing with chopping current from the solid state speed control, and it’s not from friction at all.
Endah....
