I thought installing the fence on the wrong side of the post was as bad as I had ever witnessed but you set a new record today beating on that wall and then showing everyone. Get smart! Love your videos of what not to do.

Banging on the wall was worth trying! Pretty sure that you saw how the tractor destoyed the ground! Removing that first column of bricks, probably, allowed the wall to pop free!! Evan is smart, what he has accomplished on the farm proves that without a doubt! You, however, have a long way to go to be a smart, caring, talented, and mature individual!!

If you took some roof or floor jacks and lifted up the roof on one section at a time raise it about 1/2 in cut the seal plate out and install the new one attach it and then lower the roof back to where it was and then nail the studs back into place and then move on to the next section.

Double up on the treated lumber , screw 2 together. Cut off wall studs to proper height after jacking roof up and slide in new double sill plates and drill and anchor it to the existing blocks. You know the blocks are solid. The treated lumber is free at this point, and will last another 50 yrs.

A good place to store some of that old lumber, even if it's not the full 10'-ers that you've got in mind for your projects, is up above the rafters in the top section of your barn. Keeps it off the ground and out of the way.

So glad you didn’t get broken from falling down stairs. Maybe think about using the treated 2x6’s for new sill plates. The lumber less than 10 - 12’ length could be useful for cross bracing or for other projects around the farm. A lot of projects like compost bins, chicken tractors, brooder, and etc don’t require 10ft long boards for framing the end sides. Price of lumber is outrageous again, save it all and reuse it! Will save you a lot of $$$.

I bought the same grapple that you have. I have not hooked it up yet (winter, and I need to install the third function first). I was very interested in how well it did. I am impressed!
Glad you are not going to waste the lumber. Expensive stuff.

  • @01glennie

You have done well with this one Evan, use some of that timber to tie your vertical barn timbers together, giving it diagonal strapping to support it against the winds before you place the outside timbers or barn boards on. As for those blocks you have over, just place them on the floor in front of the new opening that way you use it as hardcore before buying tones of the road stone to build up to the concrete base of the barn.

Put a temporary support system under the roof after it is jacked up a couple of inches. That will allow you to remove those footer boards and replace them with some of those removed from the floor boards that you removed from inside the addition.

The grapple worked well once you locked it in and the barn cover is looking good and when you get some more steers, that will be a good place to get out of the bad weather. If you want to R&R the sillplate do it before you remove the floor joists. You can jack the roof with a couple bottle jacks from the existing floor/framing and cut your replacements sills from the old pressure treated joists.👍
You seem to be working in reverse order.🤷

The grapple worked better than I thought. Good thing 'cause I could see a jackhammer in your future. It was acting like a lever applying force on the bottom blocks. I think all that concrete will make a good base for your ramp. Also, that tree has to go. And poor Rebecca - I bet she had a heart attack when you fell down the stairs. You - no problem. It is good to be young. I got slammed to the concrete floor a few years ago and my hip was never the same.

It the fun troublesome days that build character. Glad ya got it out. I may have used the forks to save the grapple. just don t hurry when you get stuck it sometimes solves itself like it did. As long as the hoses are good afterward it a good day. It can be a nightmare when things are crooked. You can't hurt the grapple too easily. I have had some lessons learned about getting in a hurry and at night. After stiches and lots of ice. I have learned to control the situation and calmly think through it. if takes a while to get out of it so be it. It is nice to have a junk pile of board to pull from. Now that lumber is so high, I wish I had my old stack to pull from. Seems like you will always need wood with critters around. Always seems when you get rid of something you need it. Till then it could sit there for years. Good luck with your projects. That turkey really likes you! Are you the turkey whisperer? Stalked by a turkey that new. Looks like you have a fan club while you work in the barn yard.
