The little packet contains silica gel crystals, which absorb moisture over time. They can be reactivated by baking in a low oven. The crystals can be bought loose or packaged but, IMHO, the loose blue ones are best, because they turn pink as they absorb moisture so you know when to reactivate them.
Like you said, not a bad kit. I'm somewhat impressed with it. Thanks for the initial showing. I'm happy to learn you're getting well enough to get out again...congrats!
how to get rescued: drop a fishing line in big stream - game warden will find you! actually, very nice kit. awaiting observations of use in the field. you should do this with 1st year scouts. have them build a kit.
I can see as you say that this kit has higher quality components in it that a lot of kits. I checked the current price at $119. That does seem reasonable if you really expect you might actually need to depend on this to survive. I think having Mora knife and better multi tool would really round this out. It looks pretty tightly packed so it would not fit in the tin.
My question is a genuine one, how many people ever use a fishing kit (or a sewing kit )in a real survival situation ? I think most of us would be spending all of our time trying to keep warm, dry & get out of a bad situation . I see lots of fishing kits in survival tins but how many people ever use them other than survival videos or they might try them out, but in reality unless you are stuck for 5+ days would anyone ever use them ? Am i unique in thinking this .
Rob, I agree with you 100%. I won't go into the gory details, but I got lost once in northern Wisconsin in late Oct. and I can tell you this, staying warm was all I could think about. The thing is, when you get lost, you NEVER stop at 3pm to start making shelter and gathering fire wood to spend the night. You keep walking and thinking that just over that hill or around the next turn, you will figure out where the hell you're at and then on your way home. By the time you realize you're really lost LOST and can no longer walk in the dark, it's too dark to look for fire wood or make a shelter and you're too tired to do it anyway, and you're screwed. Now, in my coat pockets, I carry a BIC lighter and matches in a zip lock, a 15 hour liquid candle, and two space blankets. I also carry about 40 feet of 300 pound test braided fishing line, and a flashlight. My logic is simple, if I get lost again, I do not trust myself to stop and make a shelter and gather wood and all that other BS. I will probably do the same damn stupid thing and walk until it's so dark, I'm screwed. That's when I break out my space blankets and wrap up in them and light that candle and set it between my legs and lean against a tree until the sun comes up. That candle will burn and give off enough heat to stay warm and stay trapped inside the space blankets with me. That's my survival kit for the winter. In the summer, it's A LOT of bug juice instead of a liquid candle. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing you do a review on this kit. Keep up the great work.
wjf213 I spend a lot of time in the mountains A Lot, and I’ve gotten lost a few times and had to spend the night. There have also been times I wasn’t so much lost as it was just to dark to see what was around me. And that being said through experience I’ve come to the realization that it’s better to not need it and have it then then to not have it and need it . And it’s better to have a few options and the fact that I live in the mountains and everything is so far away here that I come to realization that it just makes me feel safe to always keep a fully loaded day sized pack with me with food and water . A saw , fixed blade, hatchet. A flashlight batteries and a first aid kit. ChAnces are that I’ll never use that stuff but I don’t go anywhere unprepared anymore. That’s only my personal experience. I’m also planning to do a video soon of my full pack load out for when I’m in the mountains and im probably going to do that very soon. Im looking forward to the review myself Thanks for watching
Rob Duncan Think of Most of the items in these kits as comfort items you might not fish with that fishing kit but the fact that it’s in there might And can help you think out side the box the fishing line can be used in replace of sewing thread for clothing gear or self in an extreme situation Just some food for thought 💭
It’s a nice kit, but too expensive!! Most of the things in it I already have. For me, the most useful item would be the tin. Note - the silica packs absorb moisture, not oxygen. Using the bottom tin for boiling water would probably melt the roller clips, but if you’re in a desperate situation I guess that would be a good trade off.
Michael Rutledge if you did not have the items I think this would be a decent value. Survival kits are usually made to be somewhat complete. I don’t think they would sell as well as a kit to go with things you should already have.
Since the website recommends not using it to boil water, perhaps if you just had to, you could cut the grips off and replace them after. If worse came to worse, I imagine you could use the cordage to secure the top or some of the duct tape.
How could you tell it was a silica packet? I can't read it from the video. Since he said it was an oxygen absorber, I sorta have to assume it was an iron packet, like what you get with some kinds of jerky packs
I like this kit and only have one question. How heavy is the metal box by its self? I don't know if you have small or large hands. The box looks real big compared to your hands.
Best Glide ASE has the same kit (offered on Amazon) for $89....save some money, there is NOT $90 of actual usable items in there to charge even that for it! (if you notice, ASE is the manufacturer of MOST of the items IN THIS KIT, anyhow!)
Air Force use their A7 Survival Rifles and now I think you get the kit in some cases when you buy one. I wonder if the Air Force will get the survival kits. lol
First impressions...the price is a bit salty for a tin can sized kit. I checked the site and the container is NOT recommended for cooking. Seems strange to me. Enjoyed the story of how cooter can fog the brain of a teenager. LOL
Robert Winkler I know and I usually do build my own kits. But I have and reviewed a lot of other kits at the same price point that is a lot worse and has a lot left so for what the market has to offer considering the other options it’s not that bad .
This is a nice kit. But like all kits it isn’t any good if your not versed in it components uses. People get them and put them in packs, cars and what not. And forget about them. If you’re going to have a survival kit, buy two One to put in you’r pack or car. And one to use and get familiar with all the components of the kit
Bill Hinson OutDoors very true . That’s why I’m doing a full field use review soon a demo of the whole kit. And in order for it to work you should have it with you at all times outdoors.
I shop in dollar stores a lot. These items look that they are much higher quality. I’ve never seen a lot of these items in any dollar store. The tin, surgical hose, ferrocerium rods, and water purification tablets have never been in stores of this type I’ve shopped in. What store are you shopping in? I’d love to check it out.
BOOSTEDLASER I’m not done . Just taking a break because I had a really bad spine injury I’m recovering from. I’m actually going to be making new videos soon .

I couldn't see from the video whether it was a silica or iron packet. How did you?
Like you said, not a bad kit. I'm somewhat impressed with it. Thanks for the initial showing. I'm happy to learn you're getting well enough to get out again...congrats!
I didn't see anything I would not want to have in an emergency situation. Good kit. Thanks for showing it.
Looks like a pretty good kit. I am looking forward to the testing. I hope you are feeling well. Thank you for the video, Mike
Seams fairly straight forward, thank you!
Made one out of my french M- 47 mess kit. well made kits from the French, it cooks with an outrageous accent.
Where did you come across this video
@krembulum was the lid made of elderberries or did it just taunt you? Can you harvest shrubbery with your kit?
Video begins at 3:35
Thank you

Thanks for a nice review. I was tallying things up and thinking $50 would be a reasonable price for this kit. But $120?? That’s way too much.
That's a very good survival kit and compact
It is a silica pack not an oxygen scrubber. Just a straight forward silica pack.
119 can find military kits with just about the same stuff in it for 25 to 35 bucks even the same style tin
Too much talking before showing kit
big00bull yeah 🤯
I was hoping you would pull one of those henry 22 survival rifles out of that huge box.
Very nice survival kit. I think it is a little expensive. Great review.

if you used it to boil water im guessing there is a good chance of the black plastic lid locks are going to melt .......

No it’s a good question. Personally I’ve used a sewing kit a few times before but just in the field to repair my gear
Thanks for reply i am not knocking the idea of survival tins but i think they have to be compact or we will leave them at home .Tks

Unfortunately, we never did get that follow-up video. Last video on this channel was 9 months ago, so looks like it's never going to happen.
When you going to do the video on the rifle and kit?
Only thing missing is the Henry Rifle!
Pretty straight forward...
I like this kit and only have one question. How heavy is the metal box by its self? I don't know if you have small or large hands. The box looks real big compared to your hands.
Small world, running into you on not a DocP video lol-Claybo
Hate it when that happens
Good video!
Nice kit

The AirForce pilots as well as Navy and Marine pilots carry a survival kit in their vests.
Great work, awesome video, well produced and I hope to see more. However, I am not fond of that kit.
Oxygen absorber. I love it. Lol
Yeah, this was good for a laugh. What a novice! The first indicator was that someone actually bought this kit.
First impressions...the price is a bit salty for a tin can sized kit. I checked the site and the container is NOT recommended for cooking. Seems strange to me. Enjoyed the story of how cooter can fog the brain of a teenager. LOL
MrOldclunker haha yeah . I know it says not good for cooking but I would try anyway if it was life or death
It all depends on how much you think your life is worth.
Hi ! Not a bad kit
Right off the bat it has a oxygen absorber 😂👍🏼
Puss U.k it seemed pretty straightforward....
$120.00??? Ya could build your own for much less!
Robert Winkler I know and I usually do build my own kits. But I have and reviewed a lot of other kits at the same price point that is a lot worse and has a lot left so for what the market has to offer considering the other options it’s not that bad .
I wanted to try and get out today. But I’ve tried several times with no luck as soon as I put on a pack and walk a few minutes I’m done
This is a nice kit.

@@Theoutdoorproject80 , Why not wait and show us a complete "kit," rather than this toy?
I believe your light has several settings.
D. Kennedy probably does. Haven’t had a chance to really go through it all carefully yet
Where can I get just the can without contents?
Slim jim Esee can on Amazon
That is not compact when you look at it from a packing point of veiw
My SOS kit came with a better knife & flashlight & fire steel my wife bought it for me she paid $7.00 for the kit
Good gawd
I have two types of those survival kits and only one was useful since it had the items I would need except for food.
Where did you come across this video
Coulda got everything at the dollar store for about $15 or less.
I shop in dollar stores a lot. These items look that they are much higher quality. I’ve never seen a lot of these items in any dollar store. I laughed at the size of the "signaling panel". Waaaay too small to lay on, or use as an overhead tarp. Fifty bucks and I can build a better kit.
This is literally the best glide case kit but more expensive
Why dont you just show it and stop talking..geefus
You seem to have lost interest in vids (
Are you done?
BOOSTEDLASER I’m not done . Just taking a break because I had a really bad spine injury I’m recovering from. I’m actually going to be making new videos soon .
