    *drums that is. I then mixed some demo guitar and bass stems that the guys gave me and added them into the fold. I won't give all my tips and tricks away but trust me, what you hear is legit. He's a tight drummer too which helps massively. SM58s, Violet design Amethyst overheads (amazing mics) and a c14 placed inside the kick. I think we also used a room ribbon mic for ambience. (Heavily compressed it and added a lil bit of it into the mix)

    I produced the audio in this video. What you are hearing are the drums taken from this video. We used compression in on the snare and kick via the Octopre Mkii D, then mixed the drums in Logic Pro, using a number of different plugins including Camelphat, Glue compression, Distressor, Logic's Space Designer (i think the wooden studio setting tweaked) and a mixture of eq settings. We are posting up the dru un produced mix and the produced mix onto the Focusrite soundcloud page.

      +Nathan Martinez Hi Nathan. There are a few different products in the Platinum Range (e.g. Platinum OctoPre), but, depending on the unit, you would need an audio interface that is designed to receive either analogue or digital signals. If you have any questions about integrating Focusrite gear into your setup, feel free to contact us through the following link:

    professional drummer here for 40 years,,(studio,touring),, when i 1st watched this video,, i listened to the drummer playing and realized what i am heraing is 80% snare and ride being used as a cymbal crash,, bass was way down no toms mic-ed,,, i guessed this was the mix they are looking for and didnt have any after-thoughts about software not be up to grade,,,, i axtually thought the software picked up the overall sound very well considering the mic arrangement,, and to the ones who have harse criticism of this, please post a link of your style and what you think is better,, i would give a honest opinion of the sound not the playing.

  • @tenvolt
    @tenvolt 10 років тому +1

    So is the audio we're hearing the audio actually recorded with that setup? E.g. SM58 on the snare, no mics on the toms? Probably possible but would like to know if that's what we're actually hearing, otherwise this video is a little deceptive.

    •  10 років тому

      It is deceptive. That microphone setup could be good only for a demo. There's no way to get that sound we are hearing with it. I mean... let alone that (possibly augmented) snare sound, achieving that tom(s) sound with just a couple of overhead microphones (in the video at least) is impossible.
      This is a promotional video done by a product endorsing band.

    • @FocusriteTV
      @FocusriteTV  10 років тому +1

      What you're seeing is what you're hearing. Two snares on the snare (one top, one bottom) and a matched patch of mics on the overheads. Mic on the kick was inside it, as it sounded better.

    • @FocusriteTV
      @FocusriteTV  10 років тому +2

      İlter Kalkancı I'm afraid you're mistaken! The audio in the video is from that recording.
      I suppose we should give credit to Tim Harbour of Ounce Studios for the exceptional job he did with the production - it seems to have a lot of people fooled! :)

    So, I have a question. Can I just mix inside a DAW without ever looking at the mixcontrol interface, or do you have to route things in the Mixcontrol? Can you just choose input 1-8 in Ableton or Logic and forget about it entirely?

    • @FocusriteTV
      @FocusriteTV  9 років тому

      Hi,
      You can definitely do everything inside the DAW without using Mix Control. It comes out of the box ready to be used that way actually. Install it and run it once to make sure the proper Drivers and Firmware are installed, then you don't have to open it again if you prefer not to.

    • @els1f
      @els1f 9 років тому

      Cool , thanks. I like using the software mixers sometimes, but something gave me the impression that it was required to route things through an AUX.

    If the pre-amps in the Saffire Pro 40 are the same as that of the Octopre MKII why would you want them both?

    • @larrytate1657
      @larrytate1657 9 років тому

      To have more mic inputs. The safire pro 40 has 8, if your recording a whole band and the drummer needs 7 or 8 alone, you're gonna need 4 or 5 more for guitars and vocals. That's the issue I'm having now. I need more inputs and the octopre

      FocusriteTV Ok, here's what I meant to say: I believe that is the actual performance, BUT it is heavily enhanced later in the mix (which was done somewhere else). I've used Violet Amethyst's before, and yeah they're good. But THAT drum sound in the video is not the raw tracks that were done in that cabin. And I feel a bit mislead by that slick final mix. The way the music is presented is a bit misleading...

    Smooth gain structure, eh? Quite warm, you say? Ok. Well, I see there is a rack of 2 of them, I guess that means you can chain them, for 16 inputs?
    No, srsly, though...warm means a little dull on the top, with a bit of distortion. So, are you saying these are 'character' pre amps?

    • @ElMoShApPiNeSs

      Warm means something different to everyone. Describing sounds like this is a futile effort.

      I mean, yabbut...after you distill down what ppl say it means and what they really are describing, in general, for the sake of argument, most ppl mean: 'a little dull on top and a little bit of distortion'

      So, these preamps are "clean"? Reasonably transparent? Clear highs, clear lows, no distortion? They are therefore *not* "character" preamps and are not "warm". That's what I would expect, great. It just irks me, when I'm tryna get the lowdown on some gear, and there's these spokesmodels talking bullshit!
