Random Female hi quick question, was it alright without any filling? I wanted to make it without filling but wasnt sure if it would still taste sweet and nice

@@maishaahmed4658 I used to make a similar recipe in the oven and it tastes great. It is sweet, but so are most of the fillings like red bean paste; you noticed they added sugar to the black sesame powder. It isn't overpowering, the texture seems to help. You can also add things like vanilla extract or other flavorings to the mochi before cooking it to give it some variety. Orange, lemon, strawberry ... go wild! add some food coloring to tell batches apart if you are going to make a lot with variety for a party :)

I just made this mochi and it turned out awesome!! And sooooo much easier than other recipes I have found. A couple adjustments I made: I only microwaved it for 4 minutes total, and it was done! Perhaps I have a more powerful microwave? It had a little bit of liquid but the rest was cooked, so I just mixed it vigorously, and it all came together and looked/felt right. The other adjustment is that I used potato starch instead of tapioca starch, and it was just fine. It doesn't really matter, as long as it doesn't add flavor and keeps it from sticking to everything.

This is by far the most amazing recipe and amazing method that I have ever come across for making mochi. I tried another microwave recipe, but it wasn’t as chewy and had more of a loose, gelatinous, jelly-like texture. The 1:1:1 ratio is great, I personally added a bit more sugar and I think that’s what helped to make it so chewy and silky. Let the mochi sit overnight and it tastes better after it sits for a while! Thank you so much for this!

If you pouring the liquid into the flour slowly mix is gradually there is no lumps. Lumps formed because too much water at the beginning!

Jeezus that's enough ingredients for an entire garrison! But it's easy enough to remember.
1/3 sugar, 1/3 rice flour, 1/3 water (or coffee?! I'll have to try with tea.)
Microwave 5 minutes, mix. Microwave 2 minutes, mix. Microwave 2 minutes, mix.
Keep working the dough for another 3 minutes. I'll have to get me mallet and try that out the fun way!
Drop the dough still warm on tapioca/wheat flour, shape it into pancakes, add filling (I prefer anko here), shape into a ball, and done!

you don't want to use wheat flour these days; it can contain salmonella/e.coli ... that is one of the reasons they tell you not to eat cookie dough these days.
Use corn starch if you don't have tapioca starch or something else that doesn't have the risk to make you sick/kill you.

Q: Did you follow the 1:1 ratio for the glutinous rice flour and sugar with your chocolate filling? Isn’t it tooo sweet?
I wanna try it with chocolate too by my dilemma is either to follow the ratio for the mochi

    • @graceplushie
      @graceplushie 4 роки тому

@@wellamary7001 yeah i use the 1:1 ratio for the flour and sugar but my filling is 2:1 red bean paste and chocolate. the red bean paste is not too sweet so at that time it taste just fine.
the second time i made it i put in half the sugar amount and somehow i do find the mochi become less elastic like it's sticky but when i pull harder it comes apart easier. maybe if you are afraid it'll be to sweet, you can add strawberry. tried the strawberry and choco combination once and it's so good too its sweet and refreshing !
good luck on trying this recipe 😉

      Get a microwave.
But seriously, I recommend for a traditional mochi recipe that you buy glutinous rice (it's called mochigome and it's also easy to find at an asian supermarket) and look up recipes online. The traditional recipe doesn't require a microwave.
