No need to break out the steamer! Just use a gadget everyone already has in their kitchen. You can even modify this recipe to your own tastes such as changing the filling or adding color to the dough (use food coloring or coffee).

I appreciate the calm, and lack of attention seeking chatter; very clear tutorial, thanks.
Edit: just made this, with no filling but added matcha powder. SO good!
Random Female hi quick question, was it alright without any filling? I wanted to make it without filling but wasnt sure if it would still taste sweet and nice
@@maishaahmed4658 I used to make a similar recipe in the oven and it tastes great. It is sweet, but so are most of the fillings like red bean paste; you noticed they added sugar to the black sesame powder. It isn't overpowering, the texture seems to help. You can also add things like vanilla extract or other flavorings to the mochi before cooking it to give it some variety. Orange, lemon, strawberry ... go wild! add some food coloring to tell batches apart if you are going to make a lot with variety for a party :)
Very good love it
I will make it soon thanks
Where do you get matcha powder
I think maybe at any Asian grocery store. Or maybe at a store like Whole Foods. I got some at Mississippi Market.
I tried this recipe today turned out perfect after 5 minutes in the microwave my mochi was done..I used nutella and strawberries for the filling so good...
I just made this mochi and it turned out awesome!! And sooooo much easier than other recipes I have found. A couple adjustments I made: I only microwaved it for 4 minutes total, and it was done! Perhaps I have a more powerful microwave? It had a little bit of liquid but the rest was cooked, so I just mixed it vigorously, and it all came together and looked/felt right. The other adjustment is that I used potato starch instead of tapioca starch, and it was just fine. It doesn't really matter, as long as it doesn't add flavor and keeps it from sticking to everything.
Wtf 133 likes and no comments?
Edit:im first i guess

@Kasai n
when you are done putting in the filling do you just let it sit in the table or do you need to put in the fridge ?
japanesse are one hell crafty fellow... so very creative when it comes to food... not only your tummy will be famished but also your eyes...
It originates from China, like many traditional things, Japanese then refines the hell out of it.

This is by far the most amazing recipe and amazing method that I have ever come across for making mochi. I tried another microwave recipe, but it wasn’t as chewy and had more of a loose, gelatinous, jelly-like texture. The 1:1:1 ratio is great, I personally added a bit more sugar and I think that’s what helped to make it so chewy and silky. Let the mochi sit overnight and it tastes better after it sits for a while! Thank you so much for this!
If you pouring the liquid into the flour slowly mix is gradually there is no lumps. Lumps formed because too much water at the beginning!
For those who doesn't have microwave, you can steam the mochi dough every 2 minutes.
I tried it and it works
Can we fill with ice cream
oh nice! do we need a special steamer for it? like those bamboo ones?
Thank you!
Just wanted to thank you for the wonderful recipe with clear instructions on how to make great Mochi 😘 Mine turned out perfectly and I used a mung bean paste for half of them and chocolate ice cream to fill the rest. They were absolutely yum!! 😋😋 Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️
You guys made these look so easy! Thank you for this video, I'm going to have to try making mochis again on my next day off. I can't wait!
Tried this a few times now and works so well! I am becoming better at it with practice. Beating the "dough" for as long as you can (muscles required) improves the texture of the mochi. Yum x
The music is calming and wierdly makes me understand the instructions better they were also very delicious I will be making them again thank you!
Jeezus that's enough ingredients for an entire garrison! But it's easy enough to remember.
1/3 sugar, 1/3 rice flour, 1/3 water (or coffee?! I'll have to try with tea.)
Microwave 5 minutes, mix. Microwave 2 minutes, mix. Microwave 2 minutes, mix.
Keep working the dough for another 3 minutes. I'll have to get me mallet and try that out the fun way!
Drop the dough still warm on tapioca/wheat flour, shape it into pancakes, add filling (I prefer anko here), shape into a ball, and done!
GalloViking Thank you!!
you don't want to use wheat flour these days; it can contain salmonella/e.coli ... that is one of the reasons they tell you not to eat cookie dough these days.
Use corn starch if you don't have tapioca starch or something else that doesn't have the risk to make you sick/kill you.
zakura ayame I think your thinking of the salmonella in eggs.
@@shirokamishijisa3945 nope eating raw flour will give you salmonella. Google it
no way will do
This turned out really well! My sister and I filled them with Nutella instead, was so yummy! Thank you ✨👍😍
Mochi is one of my favorite Snacks. There's an Asian Market about an hour away that seals it but nothing is better then freshly made Mochi.
Oh my god finally!
Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to try Mochi for so long and I can’t find it easily in my country, it test delicious! , thank u thank u thank u 😭♥️♥️♥️
Thanks a lot for the update mochi recipe, detailed instructions ❤😘. your dedication and hard work will be appreciated
The problem is that I have only two hand! Lol..))
made this today and I add chocolate filling together with the anko. it was so yummmyy 💗 thankyou for the recipe ! have a great day :)
Q: Did you follow the 1:1 ratio for the glutinous rice flour and sugar with your chocolate filling? Isn’t it tooo sweet?
I wanna try it with chocolate too by my dilemma is either to follow the ratio for the mochi
@@wellamary7001 yeah i use the 1:1 ratio for the flour and sugar but my filling is 2:1 red bean paste and chocolate. the red bean paste is not too sweet so at that time it taste just fine.
the second time i made it i put in half the sugar amount and somehow i do find the mochi become less elastic like it's sticky but when i pull harder it comes apart easier. maybe if you are afraid it'll be to sweet, you can add strawberry. tried the strawberry and choco combination once and it's so good too its sweet and refreshing !
good luck on trying this recipe 😉
graceplushie ohhh thats why. I thought its plain chocolate
Such beautiful and relaxing music.
Omg! Finally recipe which works! Mochi is very fluffy and sweet. Love it
I made it and it turned out really good but you might want to reduce the amount of sugar cause mine was a little too sweet.
Use the microwave! How wonderful!
One suggestion. Have you tried mixing the dry ingredients first, before you add the water? I find that reduces the lumps.
Lovely mochi recioe, thanks for sharing your recipe friend.
Thank you so much .your kindness helpful .i love Mochi for years ago and have no idea how to make it and too expensive to buy any where ..

Ohh I like the idea of putting coffee instead of water!
i love that music it's make me remind someone special hahaha . btw what a delicious mochi . i've been try before and its super wonderfullllll !
Amazing!!.Thank you so much for sharing this recipe...💗
It looks so soft and yummy
May I know what's the temperature for the microwave?
Thanks.
This is amaizing ☺. I want give it a try later on. Thank you so much for sharing ☺
Tanks, I always wonder about the dusting powder and now I knew.
Yum. So delicious.
Thank you for showing your recipe. However, I put the mixture into the microwave for only 5 mins and it seems to work fine. and I also mix in some colorful fruit juice instead of water, however, 10 mins of microwave ruined it. it became a bit hard and dry. I don't know why these happened the way they did. Otherwise, your video made it so easy to make moochi. Music was fun!
Thank u for the recipe. If I don't microwave n use steam, is it the same? How many minutes? Thanks again
Mmmm....it looks yummy !!! love it n thanks for sharing yr video n recipe.
Love Mochi my favorite is Sesame ⚫️ and green tea 🟢
This is awesome!!! So sticky, sweet and delicious!
Thank you for the recipe. For others that make this, watch out for the microwave step. My mochi was almost overcooked when I put it in for the first 5 minutes.
@Vanisha Joseph
You're right, i'll definitely start with 2 minute intervals next time :)
Thank you, very good.❤❤❤
Hello, I really like your video. It helps me a lot. Yesterday I made Mochi but with an other recipe and it did not work really well. (but it still was good)
Am I supposed to put the already filled and closed Mochi into the refridgerator? Because that's what others do and what I did. This information isn't in your video. Could you help me out? Thank anyone for an answer in advance. :3
Yes
Love it. Will try using ice cream filling
Thank you so much , you really helped me out 😁😄
Looks delicious would love to try this recipe as Japanese food suppliers are very few here in Cheshire. I have managed to buy ready made bean curd mochi at a Japanese shop in the Midlands once. It was lovely but I can't remember where in the Midlands the shop was. Is it possible to add the measurement in metric as I don't know what cups are? Thank-you in advance.
Did your microwave has the level of heat? Mine it needs to set up either from lowest heat to the highest.
I was wondering how do you store them? Thx:)And is the mochi dough sweet on it’s own or can i add a bit of sugar to the mixture?
I will try this one.
I made it right this time !!)P Sooo yummy. Candied Walnut in the middle 🦋🌸🦋
I made a ton of anko, but I don't have the right type of flour... Guess I'll prepare dorayaki 😆😄 Thank you for the video tho, it looks so tasty!
Sound good to me...
I know you can put different flavor to if you want...👍
That looks very fun to make! :)
Could you use coconut milk instead of water?

Can i used oven instead of microwave? If i used oven, how minute and what temperature should i set so that my mochi turn out like the mochi in this video?
It looks delicious 😋 I would like to give it a try at my home
Can it be refrigerated ? And for how many days? Will it still be soft like freshly made?
Is it ok if I use the stove put it on top because I don't have microwave..pls reply
joli amuy I think some people steam it. Hope that helps

Excellent video!
when that beat came in tho.....
Wow Mochi Daifuku
Is it possible to substitute glutinous rice flour with all purpose flour? Where I live it's very hard to get rice flour and never seen glutinous.
Unfortunately, you're not going to get the correct texture if you use all purpose flour (made from wheat) instead of glutinous rice flour. You can try buying the glutinous rice flour online here: amzn.to/2SMiTYj
Bagus dan sangat mudah
How many days we can keep this mochi in the fridge?
I've gotta make this
Can I use normal rice flour instead of glutenious rice flour?
Hi. I hope youll notice this. Is there any way to cook the mochi dough aside from microwave it?
Hullo! Yes, you can cook it the traditional way which is to steam it.
Do u need to stir fry the corn flour in a pan as in other recipe first for costing?
can splenda stevia be used instead of sugar for diabetics?
We love Japan
how many does it make? i wanted to try it but i wouldnt wanna make too much that would just go to waste
You can eat the cornstarch without baking it?
And just like that im hungry.
Perfect !!
Can i use a pan to cook the mochi?
Hellow friend you are very talented.. Blessed full watch. Hope to hear from you soon.. The best..
Where do you get the other person from?
Yummy.
I love this
What's the difference between the sweet rice powder and glutinous powder?
Does this dough have to be hot to fill I want to try this with ice cream.
Can I put flour instead of cornstarch??
Nice making
How do we store the leftover mochi? In the refrigerator or room temperature
Can I put honey instead of sugar ?
how long does this recipe take to make?
Does normal rice flour work?
Possibly a stupid question - is cornflour the same as corn starch? I don't have tapioca starch, and I don't have potato starch as others have suggested 😂
Yes, they both are referring to the same thing, one is american term ,the other is English.
I didn’t find the glutinous rice flour can I use only rice flour?
nope
Thank you!
i dont have a microwave ...Any suggestions?
you can steam it. watch other videos
I was wondering the same thing. Me too I don't use microwave nor have one.
Get a microwave.
But seriously, I recommend for a traditional mochi recipe that you buy glutinous rice (it's called mochigome and it's also easy to find at an asian supermarket) and look up recipes online. The traditional recipe doesn't require a microwave.
Says one cup. Puts in more than 1/2 liter. Me too dude.
