I believe the symbols are different based off of difficulty setting. If you are on easy, the symbols will all be basic: cross, X, and tic tac toe. So, you need to match the basic symbols with the lights on the right or left to match the symbol in center column. After the 3rd, all 3 center symbols will unlock simultaneously. If you are on a higher difficulty, you will have beam the lights on the basic symbols on side columns to build each complex symbol in center column and they will unlock individually.
My brother I had the same problem and I finally solved it and this situation is very stupid and strange. In the gameplay videos the shapes in the center are always complicated but in mine the symbols in the center were the same as the symbols on the left and right. And the solution is much simpler. It's that simple and easy. Just point each of the three lights at the symbols on the left and right, which are the same as the symbols in the center. No three different combinations three times each and it's easy. I think it's because we chose the simple puzzle type in the first place (so I guess you chose light too).

After several tries i finally got it
the shapes in the middle look different and it won't work what do i do
