It's longan, not lychee.
Wow, thanks Jay! I've been waiting for this video and eager to re-watch it again. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it!
ipoh, the hometown of hollywood and
james bond 007 academy award star
michelle yeoh, and the film locations
for the hollywood movie 'anna & the
king' which starred jodie foster and
tom felton of 'harry potter' and me!
The drink u had is Longan ais not teh o ais. She was explaining the drink will cool and refresh you. The orangy sweetness soup noodle is from the Prawn heads and chicken bones broths. You should try the flaky egg tarts freshly bake... It nice.
Oh wow! Thanks for the info! No doubt it was so good 🙏🏽
Been watching you guys now since last week. Missing my homeland Malaysia so searching for videos in yt, then found you guys. It is very nice of you guys that you guys ignored the bad comments about the restaurant online instead went there to experience it. You guys are so kind, wish you enjoy your food hunting and stay. Looking forward for your next video! Perhaps to Langkawi, Penang or Perlis 😂
That’s so nice of you! We’ve happy to share our experiences along the way 😌 More to come! ✨
Thank you for posting videos almost everyday with one break day in the week. Hard to see these days. Lovely to just come back and enjoy 10-30min of content daily.
The consistent effort will be met with constant rise in subscribers and clicks! Keep up the good content :)
Our pleasure! We’re trying to do the daily uploads but with travelling it gets quite tricky! Although we want to upload max. every 2 days for you guys 🤩
Thanks for the shoutout! Great video 😊 Ipoh coffee and horfun is the best~
🤩🙏🏽
Yes, wonton is usually minced pork and prawns. You should be able to get wonton noodles in the UK Chinatowns, because this dish is Cantonese, and Cantonese food is well represented in the UK. The noodles often come with char siu (barbecued pork). 'Wonton' itself is Cantonese for 'swallow cloud'.
Good to know! In the UK it doesn't taste the same though 😂
That street food looks delicious 😋 Nice restaurant also 😊 keep it up 👍
Welcome to my hometown, Ipoh! I love to watch your UA-cam and have just subscribed today. The biscuit shop that you went today is indeed the most famous and the best for the locals. Would like to recommend you the Aun Kheng Lim salted chicken located at 24 Jalan Theatre, Ipoh (nearby the biscuit shop). Don't miss this famous delicacy of Ipoh. You can pack and take away the salted chicken for travel.
Oh thank you!
Glad you enjoyed watching! 🤩🙏🏽
Wonderful. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for watching!!!
@@JayandKarolina 😀
You guys nailed it this time round, as far as local Ipoh delicacies are concerned!😂👍
Oh yes!
Ipoh is famous for their flat rice noodle, we can't really figure out why, their noodle seems to be more silky on the mouth compared to other parts of Malaysia. You can feel the silkiness when you slurp the noodles with minimal resistance. Some rumor were saying Ipoh's water is the contributing factor.
Ipoh style Chee cheong fun is paired with mushroom sauce and green chilli, no seafood, you can try if you are still there. As per other Ipohan rice noodles, their Chee cheong fun is also silky smooth
One of the best shredded chicken kuey teow soup (short form KSHF) in Ipoh. Usually pay when food is served at hawkers and coffee shop while proper restaurants will be pay after finishing the meal. The wanton mostly is pork but some may have a bit of shredded prawns too)
So good!
Have you try the salted baked chicken in Ipoh? It is heavenly good! Go for Aun Kheng Lim main branch if you’re interested cheers…
Not yet! Next time!
It all looked amazing and how cheap it was 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
2 Shredded Chicken Hor Fun are the best in Ipoh. The orange colour soup one you guys had and the yellow colour soup version from Kong Heng near the Concubine lane.
Damnnn...watching ur videos makes me salivating...gonna be visiting Penang next year and will stop by Ipoh n visits the shops from ur videos...thnx guys for sharing...cheers and have fun!!
You should! Thank you so much!!!
the kai see hor fun, the soup is actually boiled with prawn heads, the red colour is probably coming out from the prawn heads (prawn brains) for the umami
Once again you guys nailed it bro Jay and Karolina 😍😍. So nice to see you guys enjoying all the Chinese street food and cuisines. That longan drink is my fav. There is another herbal version called Liong Sui, this drink darker in colour and soo yummy. Always preferred it in hot version. All the drinks in Malaysia best to mix it first before you drink it. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻. And yes in Malaysia, eat first and then pay. The locals very friendly when you’re a tourist 🫣🫣🫣🫣. Hahahaha.
How’s the weather in Penang, saw your story and are you guys struggling with the humidity?? Hope you guys are doing fine and enjoying Penang. We are leaving soon to Malaysia, looking forward 😍💃
We like ordering Chinese food very much because we get freshly prepared dishes that are simple and tasty! And since Ipoh is famous for Cantonese and Hakka delicacies, we basically ate them all day 😍
The first day in Penang was very hot and it looks like it will be like this until the end of our stay, we also have to be careful not to overdose on the sun 🌞 - generally we like Georgetown a lot, but it's quite touristy (which doesn't really appeal to us haha), so we would love to visit less common parts of the island! 🏝️
@@JayandKarolina ahaaaa okay that make sense. Have you guys tried the black hokkien mee?? Available in KL!!
Yeah Penang is hot!!! Ensure you guys wear your sunscreens. Georgetown indeed very touristy. That’s why we always stay in batu feringgi. 😍😍We will spend 1-2 days in Georgetown and rest of the holidays in Batu Feringgi. We love their night market there. Hope you guys are resting well in between. 🤩
Wontonmee sauce recipe, light soy, dark soy, anchovies soup, sesame oil, white pepper, pork lard, oyster sauce
We loved it!
Oh that Hor Fun soup Looks so good.. I'm drooling 😅
You’d love it!
I am from Ipoh and quite a number of younger study in Nottingham Trent University, one of the hot pick of local student in UK. I also studied there .......................Surprise
What a coincidence!
many Ipoh citizen study in Nottingham
Peoples are so friendly man..
Hi Guys... Welcome to My Lovely Hometown.....# Ipoh Mali 🤝👋👍🇲🇾
Nice vlog..
The soup has a orange tint because the soup is boiled with prawn shells, pork & chicken bones. The orange color comes from the prawn shells
It’s basically the orange stuffs in prawn heads then Cook it with oil. After cooking it, separate the head and the oil. The head will go to make soup together with its shells and the oil will be used for the final garnish in to the noodles soup.
Wow, that’s super interesting!
Carolina is a coffee lover like me, black coffee without sugar is very delicious
😬👍
Wow so nice
Good enjoy
$3.29 for two bowls of Seafood noodles? 😱Very cheap! I pay $14 for one bowl of Chinese seafood noodle soup here in the U.S.
Yes, indeed! Super cheap and most importantly - delicious 😍
Haha i always come this kai see hor fun shop pretty nice
The best!
C. O. D for drinks & foods.
The fruit in the drink is mata kuching (loongan).
Ipoh has beautiful cave to explore.
🙏🏽
C.O.D? Cause Of Death?!
R.I.P! for drinks! & foods!
RIP off drinks and foods?
You’ll definitely see a whole varieties of food wherever you go in Malaysia.
Ipoh is famous for 3- Shredded Chicken Hor Fun and Taugeh Chicken Rice- Ipoh ppl seems to love shredded chicken and it’s being used at many stalls for many other noodle dish, like the soup noodle or ‘wanton’ noodle dish. Personally, I’m not a fan of Ipoh food, as they taste quite 1-dimensional or bland. Shredded chicken in porridge is mot bad though, comfort food.
The 3rd, is the Ipoh WHITE coffee. The white is due to how the coffee is processed, and it is not completely white per se. But the taste is quite complex. Most places even in Ipoh are using instant white coffee nowadays though
We’ve tried them all indeed!
you guys should try the grass jelly drink or get the "Michael Jackson Drink" which is Grass Jelly (Black) and Soy Milk (White) mixed together.
We actually tried it in the Cheong Kee Wan Tan Mee place in this video! Super interesting taste 😬
Guys, for drinks like coffee, Teh, herbal drinks..........always stir mix the drinks before drinking. Many shops/stalls usually serve these drinks with sugar or milk at the bottom. It's safer mixing them before drinking otherwise the tastes will be lopsided.
Thanks for sharing! Great tip!
Curious about the budgeting. Nice of the malaysian aunty to buy the walnut candy so that you guys could try it.
SO NICE INDEED! We were really grateful 🙏
I wish to u go at Sarawak, food, history and any more
Next time for sure!
the kai si hor fun is in Cantonese' Kai si means shredded chicken. Hor fun is the flat rice noodles
All so yummy!
The best companion when savouring old fashion Chinese baked goodies is with cups of Chinese tea minus sugar and milk. This way you offset the flaky pastry and the sweet/savoury combination. The egg yolk is in fact salted duck egg yolk not freshly boiled chicken egg. Chinese loves to tickle the tastebuds in incorporating sweet, saltiness, texture etc. Many goodies also are made with assortment of nuts and seeds. They could be crispy like Florentines or chewy sticky like nougat. 😢
Within the multicultural cuisines there are tremendous diversity, be it within the Chinese, Malay, Indian, Portuguese Serani, Peranakan, East Malaysian etc. You could not finish tasting all and every type of cuisine in Malaysia within a short time. But do enjoy the rest of your explorations. Cheers and have great fun doing so.
Omg... Just imagined tasting the baked goods with the tea... It would be heaven 🙏 🙏 🙏
Yes, there's so many varieties and options, so we are glad, we have multiple opportunities to try different things in Malaysia!
Thank you! We're having so much fun indeed!!!
Any pastry in Malaysia is called Kueh. Either sweet or savoury. There is no translation in English. That's why they call it biscuits. The closest equivalant they can find.
...and all Kuih are super delicious too! We're having them pretty much every day but different types 😋
Ipoh pudding, custard made from only egg with caramel on top. Honey on the side
So good! It was literally melting in our mouths 😍
@@JayandKarolina my fav too 😍
Longan, herbal tea, release body heat
In Malaysian restaurants and hawker centres, you pay for food and drinks after they send it to you, unlike most other parts of Southeast Asia where you pay in advance.
That’s so true!
😀 think you've been having your seafood wrong all this while. Seafood tastes so yummy here, you shouldn't leave without at least giving a seafood meal a try. And that wan tan mee is not typical of what you'd find everywhere else in Malaysia. Being Ipoh I guess, is why they serve it with beansprouts. LOL... and usually the meat served with a wan tan mee is cut char siew. The filling in the wan tan is minced pork and prawns.
Thanks for the tips! It's so true - Ipoh food was way different compared to other dishes we've tried so far!
Orange , prawn oil
That’s correct!
That's "longan" in your tea.
Jayesh, I see you say "See you soon" whenever you leave an establishment. Do you really go back when you say "See you soon", or is that just being polite?
"See you soon" is a friendly way to say goodbye in English. It means the person hopes to meet again soon but it is also polite to say when just simply saying bye!
@@JayandKarolina that confuses me 😳(and I'm sure a certain population as well) , and I'd consider it a lie to say "see you soon", if it's just bye.
Your face like Cesr fabregas 😊
try malay biscuits... it more similar to british biscuits 🙂
It's known as LONGAN not Lychee
Thanks for advising!
@@JayandKarolina You are welcome.BTW, if you had been to Petaling Street, you most likely have come across a stall (located at the cross road of Petaling St) which is well known for selling this drink too.Longan, the fruit is also known as "Mata Kucing" ( becoz the seed of this fruit and ergo, the drink in Malay is a.k.a.Air Mata Kucing.(Cat's Eye Water)which sounds a bit cannibalistic.😬😅🤣😅
its so cheap the foods there in ipoh
Too much Chinese food, you guys needs to try Malay, mamak or nyonya food instead
Of course you have to go for Chinese food in Ipoh. They had lots of Malay food in KL and nyonya food in Malacca.
While in Ipoh, Chinese food is the most recommended due to the long-standing culture and traditions and the options offered. As above, in other parts of Malaysia we also went for Malay, Mamak or Indian food 😋
sweet couple ni belum pekena Bakso,Indo n Malaysia sama sebutan tp asalnya dari Indo, kuah sup + fish ball, yummy!
Know why the table is not that popular among Chinese local....becoz it sounds bad in local chinese dialect....43....means....4...sound like dead....and...3....alive...so dead and alive...
🤔🤔
Layakkah disebut Malaysian Street Food ?? Mari berpikir cerdas Bijak dan Berlogika.
🤣🤣🤣 Cytro Anti DAP sampai benua Indonesia... Janji gaji masuk 💀💀💀
@@knock-knockwhosthere9933SUHANJAYA LIAN the RACIST & the CLAIMER clan from Indonesia has landed here...
Sebab malaysia berbilang bangsa bro, tak kira lah melayu , cina ,india, kadazan , dusun ,orang asli semuanya orang malaysia.
Jadi nak kata budaya cina bukan budaya malaysia tidak tepat sebab orang cina malaysia tetap orang malaysia jugak.
The Chinese community has been a major ethnic group in Ipoh since its early days, thus we went for the best foods that were recommended in this city...
This is not Malaysian street food but this is Chinese street food🤣🤣, because this food is not from local Malaysia, I suggest you look for food from Malay people from Malaysia👍👍 that's what you can call Malaysian street food
Honestly speaking, at least 80% of the food was of Chinese origin - as far as we could see, the food culture is mainly driven by the Cantonese and Hakka people which are also considered Malaysian.
Next time if you out of bujet..stay at home... don't go out of country...😅😅😅
😅 That’s not the whole purpose
Can see Carolina has better chopsticks skills than Jay 😆. Anyways love your videos guys 👏
