I had an aquarium once and had a couple cichlids. One of them would actually listen to watch I told it to eat. My niece caught a bluegill and wanted to put it in so I let her and after a couple months I woke up to my fish staring at me with a look saying it was hungry so I told it it it was then eat the bluegill. It then turn and snapped at the bluegill like it was gonna try to eat it so I had to get up and feed it lol
I know it's not the same thing, but I have a tiny little Betta I was given when she was a baby. I talk to her a lot and she sits in front of me at the glass like she's listening. She rushes to greet me when I walk up to her tank, and we like to play often. When I feed her she doesn't like for me to just drop the food and leave. She sits there and will only eat if I drop one pellet at a time and wait for her to finish the previous one before dropping another. I never thought a fish would be one of my more wholesome pets. I recently got her a bigger tank with a house she can swim through. She's certainly more thankful than my cats. 😂 I often catch her swimming through the windows and the fake tree stump on top. Fish are so funny.

Hell, I used to think that fish only had like a 3 second memory too but that’s obviously not true.people would say that like it was fact and common knowledge that everyone knew duh everyone knows fish are dumb and can’t remember 5 seconds ago so it don’t matter what happens to them. I’ve actually seen many animals braking the stereotypes that we’ve always related them too so shit, in my eyes anything’s possible these days. A fish might not socialize and have the same emotions as us humans I still wouldn’t assume we fully understand the way they experience life and all species or even individual fish could be completely different. Who really knows?
