Welcome back to the channel!! Today we have a LOT OF special guests, we have Sean Daniel (as always), Casey Cooper, Hannah (Casey's wife), and Trey Xavier from Gear Gods! This was such a fun video to film with this being the largest group I've ever reacted with, and it was slightly chaotic but a great time nonetheless. I'm glad that they could all join me on the channel, I feel very honored. The song was very beautiful and Atif Aslam is truly an immaculate vocalist. Let us know if we should watch anymore and what you thought of our reactions!!

lyrics may be surprising, translation can't give real feel unless you know the language. like ''wine cups are filled''. poetry always gives different and relative meaning. wine translated is actually holy water that will be presented in heaven.

Actually, the idea of wine has long been a metaphor in Sufi tradition to represent the capacity for intoxicating devotional faith as can only be inspired by God and a divine sense of conviction. This is an extension of the common reference towards 'being intoxicated' to represent a divine intoxication or mast. Thus to say that the Prophet (SAW) with one look could cause your wine glasses to overflow is to say that with a single look he could overwhelm your heart with intoxicating devotion or renew your spirit and passion for service to the Lord.

    Hii
This song is basically based on one of our holy places Madina, which is our beloved prophet Hazrat Mohammed (SAW)’s final home. All the lyrics are basically asking Allah to write Madina on our fate for atleast once so that we can go there and experience the beauty, the peacefulness, the miraculous feeling, and also so that we can meet our beloved beloved prophet.
And about the Wine thing, the translation was kinda confusing cause he said ‘Sharbat’ which means juice not alcohol. So wine was meant as juice or some sort of that stuff but not alcohol. The meaning of that line based on my understanding was ‘the Sharbat glasses will be filled with just a gaze of Allah Subhanahuwatala.
    Hope that was informative.

Hello, this video just popped up in my feed and I just had to leave a comment here for you.
As you already mentioned, it is a cover and the original is composed by somebody else so I just wanted to give some more informationon that.
The musicial aspect of the Qawwali (song) was composed over 40 years ago by the Sabri Brothers, they were the first. The lyrics used by the Sabri Brothers included lines from many different poems and literature in Pakistan/India. There's also 3+ languages here, Urdu, Persian, Arabic. The lyrics used in the Coke Studio version are a shortened down version of that. The music is also different in some areas of the song now, they definitely added some stuff in. Also there's a little difference in the instruments used, in the old days with Qawwali there would be Harmoiums (kinda like a mini organ), dholak (long drum), tabla (two round drums) those are the basics. The Sabri Brothers also used sitar (string), swarmandal (string), bongo drums. In the Coke Stuido version there are some of the traditional instruments with the addition of the piano and guitar etc.
    1:52 This instrument is called a Rabab/Rubab :)
5:08 That's called a harmonium, he's right, very nice explanation too
14:40 I don't know much about Coke Studio's productions but most of the time they say "performed live"
17:20 Yes this is the style of old Qawwali, the main singers say the line the the chorus repeats it sometimes multiple times
18:25 When they say wine, they use it as a metaphor for spirituality
19:38 The original I've listed is 20+ minutes, usually in Qawwali there's a chorus so they can perform for longer, in the old days there would be live performances which could last up to 3 hours and the Sabri Brothers would perform song after song with little breaks in between
Please please react to the Sabri Brothers version, it is like 40 years old so the video quality is bad and the sound quality isn't the best but you've got to just listen once. I think you'll prefer the Coke Studio version because you watched it first but also because it's more modern I guess but I would really appreciate it if you still listened to the original just once.
The Sabri Brothers version is available here with an English translation available in the captions: ua-cam.com/video/TOxAPsgaQFs/v-deo.html

The backing Vocals on this track are called "Qawwals" this particular song is actually a "Qawwali" which is traditional Sufi singing in south east Asia.
Regarding that line about the "wine being released from a glance", this is a poetic metaphor. The singer/poetic is 3xpressing his Love for the prophet as being someone who is intoxicated with the wine of love. The glance from the beloved gaze would act as the most powerful intoxicant for the beloved.

[Ali Zafar is a poet, singer, actor, producer and more. He also injects considerable personality into his art.]
'Ya Soch' is a duet in two of Pakistan's languages. Ali Zafar sings in Urdu and Natasha Khan in Pashto.
In 'Ae Dil', Ali Zafar sings with Sara Haider. This song illustrates something quite common in India and Pakistan these days. Songs are partly in English and partly in Urdu (Pakistan) or Hindi (India).

If you look up their song "Corduroy" live in some school set up, you will see them using Tablas and Sitar. They are trying to use them as bongo drums but nonetheless the drummer at that time Jack Stevens irons did a great job with them.

Madinah is the city of The Prophet (S). It's a qawwali style of music with lyrics expressing love of Islam. This also means, whenever wine is mentioned in Islamic poetry, it refers to intoxication of love for Islam, Allah, and The Prophet, not actual wine or being intoxicated. The poets may view intoxication as one which is evil and one which is pure, and this type mentioned is pure.

The reason 3 backup singers sound like 40 is coz they are qawaals not backup singers. Its a whole technique they learn for 20 years since age of 6 to finally debut. They eat paan to damage vocal cords then sing to heal them that opens them and gives illusion of multiple singers. Its the most intense vocal training coz they literally put their chords through hell.

  • @HafsaMansoor

Its a "qawali" the backing vocals are actually called as "hamnawa". The closer translation for it would be the companions who follow you. Qawali is incomplete without hamnawas so keeping that tradition alive, backing vocals even in non qawali song is common in coke studio
