In Indian and Pakistani classical music what appears to you as improvisation is actually rendition based on raagas that are governed by very specific rules. In the end what you heard was tarana. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a pedigree classical singer, this has been running through in his family for years and years. That last bit is just do re mi fa so le ti do breakdown according to the music where the musician and the vocalist has to be in sync and hit every single note exactly as it is played. This is the most advanced form of improvisation that no singer can prepare for and only the best vocalist can attempt.
