Anne-Marie and Xavier HUBERT-BRIERRE along with Michel GUISS DJOMOU have set up very large mirrors in a forest in the west of Gabon. (250 cm x 122 cm). In this natural and uncontrolled environment numerous camera traps have been placed in front of each of these mirrors in order to film animals’ reactions to their own reflection from different angles and at different distances. Over the past few months an imposing male leopard has become addicted to his reflection. These huge mirrors are installed in his domain. He refuses to share them with other wild animals and does not hesitate to face a mother elephant and her children.
Some of my subscribers regretting that my videos are not long enough this video contains all the leopard's trap camera shots (assembled end to end) in front of this mirror from 13 PM before his meeting with elephants, during the face to face and after until he left the mirror at 23PM

• In the Gabonese jungle...
At 15:43 It's the cry of a monkey sitting safely in the big tree above the mirror. A few seconds later you can see the image move slightly because the monkey's movements in the tree caused a small dead branch to fall on the camera pole and then a few leaves fall to the ground in the camera's field of view. You can hear several warning messages (han-han / han-han) of this monkey to warn his congeners of the presence of a predator (the leopard) at the base of the tree where the mirror is set up.

En este entorno natural e incontrolado, se colocaron múltiples trampas fotográficas delante de cada uno de estos espejos para filmar, desde diferentes ángulos y a diferentes distancias, las reacciones de los animales a su reflejo. Con el paso de los meses, una imponente pantera masculina se hizo adicta a su reflejo. Como estos grandes espejos están plantados en su dominio, se niega a compartirlos con otros animales salvajes y no duda en enfrentarse a una madre elefante acompañada de sus hijos.
Algunos de los suscriptores de mi canal lamentan que mis videos no sean lo suficientemente largos. Por eso este video contiene todas las tomas (ensambladas de punta a punta) de este felino frente a este espejo desde la 1:00 pm, antes de su encuentro con los elefantes, durante el cara a cara y después hasta su salida del espejo a las 11:00 pm.

15:43, un mono sentado en el árbol sobre el espejo hace que una rama muerta caiga sobre el poste de la cámara y que algunas hojas caigan al suelo en el campo de visión de la cámara. Por han-han / han-han este mono advierte a sus compañeros del peligro

Anne-Marie et Xavier HUBERT-BRIERRE avec Michel GUISS DJOMOU ont installé de très grands miroirs dans une forêt à l’ouest du Gabon. Dans cet environnement naturel et incontrôlé, de multiples des pièges photographiques ont été placés devant chacun de ces miroirs afin de filmer sous différents angles et à différentes distances, les réactions des animaux face à leur reflet. Les mois passant, un imposant mâle panthère est devenu addict à son reflet. Ces miroirs de grandes tailles étant plantés dans son domaine, il refuse carrément de les partager avec les autres animaux sauvages et n’hésite à faire face à une mère éléphant accompagnée de ses enfants.
Certains des abonnés à ma chaine regrettent que mes vidéos ne soient pas assez longues. Pour cette raison cette vidéo contient toutes les prises de vue (assemblées bout à bout) de ce félin devant ce miroir depuis 1h de l'après-midi, avant sa rencontre avec les éléphants, pendant le face à face et après jusqu'à son départ du miroir à 23h.

À 15:43, c'est le cri d'un singe assis en sécurité dans ce grand arbre au-dessus du miroir. Quelques secondes plus tard, vous pouvez voir l'image bouger légèrement car les mouvements du singe dans l'arbre ont provoqué la chute d'une petite branche morte sur le poteau de la caméra, puis de quelques feuilles au sol dans le champ de vision de la caméra. Your compliment is a great reward for my wife Anne-Marie, my friend Michel and me. As you may have noticed, we are not sitting comfortably in our armchairs, publishing, without any description, pieces of videos copied from the Internet and put end to end. A comment like yours cheers us up after my wife and I have spent days alone in the Gabonese forest for the maintenance of our mirrors and numerous cameras traps, changing memory cards, cells, batteries, cleaning lenses, removing fallen branches in their field of vision, walking up beds of creeks to find areas where animals are crossing over to install new traps etc... Drenched by tornadoes, the body covered with insect bites of all kinds (horseflies, gorilla flies, tsetse, black ants, magnan ants etc.) and unfortunately the number of cameras refusing to work increases because of the humidity rate of 95%. Then, back in the camp, we do the editing with for each video a description in English which is not our native language and then put them online to show the beauty of Gabonese fauna, talk about poachers, show how elephants who have managed to get away from a wire snare trap, treat the deep cut made by this trap, show how elephants pick mangos, self recognition in mirrors that is not innate both among humans than among primates and other mammals and so on...

LOVE how the leapord develops a love/hate relationship with his mirror image, sometimes quarreling with it, sometimes taking a nap with it, sometimes purring & rubbing up against it with affection.
*Without these mirrors,* jungle life is cruel and monotony : These animals encounter other opponents in the jungle constantly. And those opponents (or prey) have actual claws, fangs, tusks, and horns to fight back with and shed blood. They fight or they flee or both. They fight amongst themselves within their own herds and prides regardless of species for food, status, for mating right and territory and might die in those encounters.
*With these mirrors, I break the monotony of the daily life of some animals in this remote area of the gabonese rain forest. If the presence of my mirrors can disturb some species in the jungle, quickly many of them get habituated to it and even take pleasure to observe their reflection in my mirrors.* These wild animals can go to these mirrors, as they see fit and stay in front of them, as long as they wish. They are not tied as dogs with leashes, locked as dog or cats in flats especially with dressing rooms equipped with a full-length mirror!
They are not imprisoned for life in pens or cages with the distraction of watching visitors standing behind their fences or bars, eating the food they have neither picked nor hunted as Harambe (a silverback gorilla), born in captivity and dead 17 years later, still captive , killed by a bullet in his enclosure!
*_No food is placed by humans next to mirrors to encourage them to come._*

Tell me about it. When we still lived with our parents my youngest sister would be in the bathroom forever. I'd like to know what takes women so damn long in there. (That was before cell phones so she couldn't have been playing with her cell phone.) They should show consideration for others and realize other people need it too.

The leopard cant' seem to figure out if it should be dominant or submissive, and it cant' figure out why the other leopard disappears when it goes behind the mirror. Remarkable.

I think the cat was genuinely interested in what it was looking at. You can see it transition from defensive/territorial to curious and fascinated.
Leopard is solitary and territorial animal. So this male leopard doesn't feel alone. - after reading numerous comments calling for the dismantling of these sadistic mirrors,
- after my wife and I have spent days alone in the Gabonese forest to maintain our mirrors and many photographic traps, change memory cards, batteries, clean lenses, remove fallen branches in their field of vision, walk up the creek beds to find areas where the animals cross to install new traps etc... Soaked by tornadoes, the body is covered with insect bites of all kinds (horse flies, gorilla flies, tsetse flies, black ants, magnan ants etc.) and unfortunately the number of cameras refusing to work is increasing due to the 95% humidity level. Some people are so sensitive. It is literally a mirror in a jungle. It's not harming anyone, neither the animals or their way if life. It just adds something new and interesting to their everyday. Animals can get bored just like humans and this helps them explore a little more than what they are used to!

My cat used to look round the edge of the TV if there were big cats on the screen and they walked out of shot.. as if he was trying to figure out where they went. I think this leopard is doing the same thing when he keeps hanging around at the edge of the mirror. He thinks it’s another cat but can’t figure out where it goes.

Poor leopard, he's actually salivating and panting from the stress. He can't reach his enemy but also can't leave the area bacause it's his territory and he has to protect it.
If the mirror placement seems to have screwed up their mind, these large mirrors break the monotony of the daily life in the rain forest. Wild animals can go to these mirrors, as they see fit and stay in front, as long as they wish. No food is left by human next to the mirrors to encourage them to come. I would like to point out that these wild animals. *More "random" cameras would not bring more triggers and especially the main difficulty is that the detected animals do not stay only 3 to 5 seconds in the field of view of the trap* We are neither scientists nor veterinarians. We wanted to thank Gabon, which has welcomed our family for more than 35 years, to show on UA-cam the diversity of the fauna of this beautiful country and to make Internet users want to visit it. Our first videos posted on our UA-cam channel essentially showed wildlife "passing" in front of the lenses of our trap cameras equipped with motion detectors: The passage of an elephant in front of the objective of a trap for about twenty seconds is not particularly interesting. It is the result of the more comfortable learning in the mirror at home among young humans in the company of their parents who have done this training and who have the words to explain to their young child the properties of the mirror. This learning in the mirror can last several weeks and it is only around the age of 2 years that the young human understands that in the mirror it is not a play partner who makes the same movements as he does. Among chimpanzees or gorillas, in the insecurity of the jungle learning with his parents who have not done this and who do not speak, this is much more difficult even for intelligent individuals.
Some animal species perform inconsistently on the mirror test. Chimps and orangutans have unambiguously passed, but they don’t always. lol mine didn't care. This leopard really got confused tho. At one time he was like "I'll stop here before this rectangle so the mean leopard won't appear" so funny
In his mind it's another leopard entering his territory, so trying to chase the other leopard away. When elephant hears the aggressive behavior of leopard it thinks that leopard is trying to hurt another elephant, so coming for rescue. But then when elephant realizes that there is no elephant in danger but, just a weird object sitting there gets scared of it, and holds its tail high and runs away. Good experiment.
Hearing the sounds the leopard makes is simply amazing, incredible work.
