      One more thing, knowing how tight or loose one's wheel must be is very important for us new skaters because I couldn't even do these simple steps because my wheels were too loose...10minutes later I cruising down the street 🎉🎉

      @@sifisomthimunye6789 Both wheels and trucks! If the nut on the wheel is too tight then the wheels won’t spin. Too loose and they could fall off or break the trucks/ bearings.
      If your trucks are too loose then it could be hard for you to first gain your balance or even turn if you have wheel bite. Definitely two important points to think about!

    Loyal! Excellent video. One thing is to pad up. The first six months of skating is likely the most dangerous, so wear a helmet, and padding all around. Last thing you want is to fall on your elbow and have to take time off for an injury. One thing that really helped me once I got comfortable pushing around was to try to roll around with only one foot on the board and the other foot kind of off the board but ready to push again. That was really when I felt like I had more control of the board and rolling around. Still a newbie, but loving every minute of it! Thanks for an awesome series. Couldn't do it without you!

    Returning skater. Used to tool around on my friend's board as a kid, but family couldn't afford a board for me, so mainly rode bike up through my late 20's.
    Over the past several years I got interested again in skateboarding, and I'm finally in a financial position I could build my own board. Got it put together, stepped on it, and almost broke my back first try cause I've lost my riding balance. I'm fucking determined though, hence here I am. 😁🤘

    New Skater at 44! Thanks for the tips.I suppose at my age, having never skated before, it was common sense for me to hold on to something at first! It’s fun, but it is a challenge to find that center of gravity at times. The couple falls I’ve taken so far have been backwards (Ouch! No fun - too much weight on my back foot plus I start to lean back towards the tail as my body tries to stop, then, of course, I shoot the board out from under me). I have a cruiser, but the board is pretty much the size of a regular skateboard and has a flat nose. Any other tips to train the rest of my body to stop leaning towards the tail when I pop up the front?

    • @SkatingwithAaron
      @SkatingwithAaron  2 роки тому +5

      Hey Stacey! Welcome to skateboarding and the channel! It’s pretty common for beginner skaters to slip out backwards. I think it’s because they’re afraid to fall forward so they unknowingly cause themselves to do the opposite. My beat suggestion is to keep your feet spread out evenly on the board with knees bent and your head looking straight done the center of your body at the center of the board. If the weight of your head is centered, it’s a lot harder to slip in either direction. Keep you back foot off the tail for now if possible as well. That way your not automatically popping the board down if you lose your balance. Lastly, be sure to pad up and take your time. There’s no rush, and I promise you’re going to love it once you’re able to start cruising around!

    New skater here. I've had this cruiser board for years and finally decided to try and learn. I might change to a regular board as I've heard they are easier to learn on.
    I started by skating next to a wall for reassurance, but I'll definitely try these excercises to help learn balance.
    I came off the board (put too much weight on my back foot) but I'm undeterred. Its also a hell of a workout for someone who hasnt been very active for long.

    • @SkatingwithAaron
      @SkatingwithAaron  11 місяців тому +3

      Glad you’re finally getting into it! Also glad you’re not left the falls deter you as there will be many to come, especially if you decide to start learning tricks. A cruiser or longboard are probably easier to learn on simply because they tend to be wider and longer. More surface area and more forgiving. Just be sure to take your time and really get down your balance while standing still then leaning around. This will drastically help you once you start pushing!

    New skater! Did aggressive skating for a long time. Still on it but wanted to get the starting new experience again so I grabbed a skateboard and realized while not everything is 'new' it's still a complete different thing to learn. Feels so hard to do compared to my blades. Cheers
    Edit: wanted to add that I can do an ollie quite ok from just doing that while being stationary. When I wanted to try more I realized that without the balance I'm missing a lot of possible progression. That's how I ended here on UA-cam watching yours video trying your tips.

I’m in my 60s and I suppose most people will think I am crazy to do this. I am in pretty good shape for my age. I purchased my board at a local skate shop and got all the protection and taking my time. These examples will help for sure. The first time I went out ( shoulder have gotten balance down more)I succeeded riding and getting up on the board but I took 3 hard falls in the first 10 minutes. The padding probably saved me from breaking my arm or wrist. Shook it off and continued more cautiously. I just lost control of the board so now slowing it down and working on balance. Thanks again!

    Hello sir Aaron..u’re so great..no matter what u n everyone says,u ARE a pro for me sir Aaron..i’m just nothing..
    But..i wanna give u hidden treasure for ur ollie tutorial for newbie skaters just like me Aaron,it’s not actually a secret bcoz u n all the skater who manage to did an ollie so great did this already everytime..just didn’t realize it..
    U might wanna make a new ollie tutorial after this with the treasure that i woukd like to share to u..of course after u prove my word is make sense or not..
    Have u consider about “back pop”??i hope u want to spend sometime to do some research just like i did to prove my word..watch some slomotion ollie of anyone that did or doing a great ollie or it might aswell ur own ollie in slomotion,see if what i said is right or not..that u guys actually did a lil bit backward pop motion everytime u did an ollie,juuuuust very lil bit backward direction of pop,not really 180° trajectory pop,not exactly straight down below pop..the skateboard always a lil bit move backward (u can see the back wheel movement assuming the skater starting the motion from the stationed skateboard,not moving or cruising) while the nose starting to lifted up from the pop..
    There you go sir Aaron..sorry for the long writing,doesn’t mean to teach anything to anyone,hell i just a newbie myself that even barely can do a stationary ollie yet..
    But i u can prove that this is indeed the hidden treasure of ollie,it’s all yours now sir Aaron..i’m happy i can share this to a great skater like u..if it doesn’t,then don’t mind me,u can just ignore this to much talking newbie for nothing..

    • @SkatingwithAaron
      @SkatingwithAaron  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Richard! Welcome to the channel. Thanks for the comment, you’re too kind! I believe by “back pop” you’re referring to how in a stationary position the board appears to move backwards slightly at the wheels as you’re attempting to pop the Ollie. I do agree that yes this happens, but only due to the transfer of weight and mechanics of the motion to get the board up. As you get better, this will happen less and less. I personally don’t think that there is anything in particular about this that would help a beginner with their Ollie. Honestly most beginners get hung up in the details and this is something you probably don’t need to worry about. I could be wrong or misunderstanding. You should make a tutorial about it and see if others find it helpful!

    Hey, is Z-flex too advanced? I've never skated before and I got a Z-flex skateboard, having an experienced skater from reddit walk me through what to look for when buying and they said my board should be good. However I'm having severe balancing issues, and even my mom said that the board is too wobbly for a beginner.

    • @SkatingwithAaron
      @SkatingwithAaron  2 дні тому

      @@The_AuraMaster Hey. Welcome to the channel! As far as I’m aware, Z- flex is just a brand of board that makes cruisers and popsicle styled boards. Which type did you get? Either way, it sounds as if your trucks are too loose. Get an Allen key and tighten them up and you’ll see the board is more stable. You don’t want it to be super stiff otherwise that detracts from your ability to turn without kickturning. It’s different for everyone so take a day to play around with tightening/loosening until you find something that feels right for you.

    New skater at 19. I'm getting frustrated with even the basics. When I try to push around and actually get moving, my board either stops after a few seconds, or starts going backwards. Do you know what might be causing this issue?

    • @SkatingwithAaron
      @SkatingwithAaron  3 місяці тому +1

      The stopping might be cheaper bearings/ trucks or having the nut holding your wheels too tight. As for the going backwards I’m not sure. Different for everyone! It’s important to not judge yourself based on other peoples skill levels as you never know how easy or hard it came for them. Fear is a big part of skating. Especially understandable with a past injury! Try pulling yourself along the wall, or pushing with your hands next to a table. That way you can control how slow or fast you go. Just be sure to not put all your weight agains the wall or on the table.
