Crazy to think I was in eighth grade mowing the lawn to this shit. Never heard anything like it before at the time. Your pops was saying he was trying to think who was like them in his era - honestly, after going back to hear the OGs over my lifetime, on this album I now hear a lot of Run DMC in Ride's flow. That kind of throaty 80-90s cusp flow. I think he even shouts out EPMD on Exmilitary.
@@dtanaka869-d haha for real!! when I was in middle school, Facebook was the ish. I used to follow Zachs Page and always watched his ‘Hindsight is Nowhere’ music video over and over on Facebook hahaha I was lucky enough to have older brothers that had good taste. Hope you have a great night, man. Keep creating if you make things!
First heard these dudes in high school when exmilitary came out, always give it a listen every once in a while. I got to see them live about a year ago and my ears are still ringing. They played for an hour straight with zero breaks
It will be funny if you guys do Year of the Snitch in the future, it was one of those albums that I didn't get into at first but after a few months I relisted and I was "Oh, that is pretty good actually" and then, after seeing people reactions, is such a mix of "it's the best album ever" and "it's the worst album ever" and I think it's even more experimental than The money store.
I love weird, experimental, atonal music. I was so shocked by The Money Store from right off the rip. Death Grips is doing their own thing and they dont give any f**ks.
@@stijn8588 it's commonly referred to as the most accessible album, quite a few people complained it was too pop when it first came out after an album like exmilitary being alot more rough. I think it speaks to their ability to actually compose well structured music while retaining their creative flair. And you still get songs like hacker and punk weight which go a bit off structure but again in a controlled way, still bringing it back to the catchy choruses. I go between it being my favourite album and not with bottomless pit and exmilitary, sometimes that electronic vibe really hits and other times the more heavy, rock inspired sounds on those other 2 albums is what I'm looking for.
Really wish I could vibe with my dad over this album. He was listening to abrasive shit like Nine Inch Nails when he was my age but I've never been able to sit him down to listen to it. I'm envious
I've Seen Footage always sounded like push it by Salt and Peppa to me personally. That drum pattern is very reminicent of the golden era but done it's own 2012 warped way. Death Grips is like a industrial grime (like Dizzy Rascal production). The album is peoples thought being subjected to the patterns of systems and how they f with the phyche creating pairinoia and a needless consumption running always back to The Money Store for sex, drugs, partying escapment. You're detatched their music only gets less accessable but No Love Deep Web he should give a spin. The album cover in punk and beyond sus lol You should checkout Boy in da Corner his self produced a hip hop grime album out in the UK from 2002. He was a trendsetter later signing to El-p (later Run The Jewels co member)'s label Definitive Jux.
Another group to add into the Jpeg mafia and Death Grips conversation is Clipping. A LA based industrial group that tells amazing insane stories in their raps. They got 2 Halloween themed horror albums but also a Sci Fi horror movie album, two stellar group projects where they go into what Death Grips goes into patterns and choices we are given and how they affect us. I've been listening to them since before Daveed Diggs was in Hamilton who is an insanely great rapper.
I'd love to see y'all do No Love Deep Web. The beats hit a lot harder imo, Ride is more coherent and its a little more straightforward and hip hop/ dance influence

Bro I realised the other week that I discovered dg when I was like 12. Idk how tf I discovered that shit back then but I'm glad I did
i found them just before the sixth grade finished and thought i was so cool listening to the money store on the last day 💀💀💀
i was also mowin my lawn to dg in 8th grade, thats funny
Death Grips is as much a Hardcore Punk Band as they are a Digital Hardcore band as they are a Hardcore Rap outfit. They’re just… hard.
Hard - with hooks. They've got the songs.
"Thoughts on Get Got?"
"Yeah... I Got Get. Got. heh. Woah."
Yeah it's like that
Seeing that shit live is a spiritual experience. Seen em 3 times in my life. The crowd was insane every time.
Zach Hill rearranged my organs, discovered these guys cause of Hella
@@dtanaka869-d haha same dude! Hella was my gateway as well

loved that he enjoyed punk weight, my personal favourite off of this project
That Machine Girl shirt 🔥🔥
We definitely have to see some more death grips reactions, really curious to see what he would think of bottomless pit.
it is time for the boomer to truly be put to the test
Dad said it sounds like Rhea Ripley intro song. I’m weak 😂
Great reaction guys! I’d love to hear both of your thoughts on Year of the Snitch, probably my favorite Death Grips album
Love Death Grips. And I'd absolutely recommend looking at clipping.

the money store is like their least experimental project
TMS is their least experimental out of the discography.
I NEED to see ya'll do No Love Deep Web. That album is also amazing.
I lowkey think he will really like No Love Deep Web. But who knows?
@@808dadYou should do Steroids!
You gotta listen to that on Steroids day tho it just hits harder
*Patiently waiting for yall to do The Powers That B and Bottomless Pit.*

Crazy thing is that this record is very well structured and pretty accessible while also sounding experimental asf
@@stijn8588 i would call just some songs accessible, like i've seen footage

The shirt you have on is genuinely the best Machine Girl album and one of the best digital hardcore albums of all time.
I'm so waiting for him to hear No Love Deep Web, I think he'll FEEL IT
Blackjack is slept on so much. Easily one of their best.
My fav album of all time

Dizzy rascal as grime?
Maybe I'm missing something but I never associated dizzy rascal with grime.
Never mind, I was thinking of rizzle kicks for some reason, yeah dizzee rascal is right my bad.
