- Ukrainian soldier Serhiy Raylyan, 26, lost both his legs and his eyesight after his vehicle drove over a mine in the summer of 2022 near the front line in Ukraine's Donetsk region. He's now starting to walk again with prosthetic limbs and hopes to regain some vision.

Having suicidal thoughts in his situation is frankly no surprise at all. Glad that he has close family, friends at his side and buddies still at the front asking after him. May his rehab serve him well and May he have the motivation to struggle onward until it truly is his time.

I am so sorry for his injuries, but so happy to see he was able to work through them and has the love and support of his family - as well as the eternal gratitude of all Ukraine and much of the world including me. He is and always will be honored as a hero - I'm in awe of him and all Ukrainians fighting and supporting the fight. He will walk again. I hope he is able to find the right doctor and can regain some sight. We owe it to Ukrainians to help in their recovery, the recovery of Ukraine and all wounded

Russians did that - and I just read where 2 russians both of whom lost legs in Ukraine were beat up by their fellow russians at home. Ukraine is getting their heroes prostheses did you see how they thank them buy them fruit? They love them as the world does. I've not seen a single russian with prosthetic limbs I've seen some pushing themselves along on carts begging. russians will hate them in future disown them like the Germans did Nazis. russian soldiers will always be hated, they are war criminals who will be prosecuted and will suffer the rest of their miserable lives.

I don't understand why no one seems to be focused on supplying military-grade (except no substitutes!) eye protection to pro-Ukraine fighters! They're not cheap, but when compared to the horrible toll of even partial blindness on a veteran, it's a no-brainer. [NB: even the best eyewear won't prevent blindness or eye damage in all cases, but in general it would be a great measure to undertake.]
As Ukraine rebuilds and recovers from the ravages of the RuZZian invasion of conquest, it will hopefully join the world's top tier in accessibility for the disabled in its rebuilt cities, towns, and villages, as well as other measures, like making its paper currency legible to the blind, if it hasn't done so already.
Meanwhile, research continues and great progress is being made WRT electronic optic implants and bionic eyeballs. Hopefully, blindness will become a mitigatable condition for most vision-impaired and blind people.
Freedom is dearly bought and only because heroes like Serhiy are willing to pay for it. Eternal respect.

My first thought was "Thank God he still has both arms and hands and can talk and listen (not just hearing)."
He can hug his wife and children and, once the leg prosthetics are fit and done, he can still do so much with his family.
