They weren't always as good at getting even spacing, my 1930 original Halls number plate with separate cast aluminium letters (a character was missing & another was broken with a chunk missing) on my Austin Swallow was a bit rough. The front was painted letters on a steel pressing! My 1930 Standard Swallow has its original pressed aluminium plates, the characters are perfectly aligned. I am going to get the painted number plate scanned & repaired (the lettering is in a poor condition) and then printed on vinyl self-adhesive sheet and use that (keeping the original), the other 3 plates have responded well to polishing and renewing the black paint background. Makes all the difference to have the number plates looking right, ok, there were a variety on offer when new, but the modern stuff in supposedly the correct font just are not the same. Thanks for sharing.
My Car was also registered in Essex In 1965 I think that was Chelmsford. My trail goes cold at the First Owner though I do have her name but no Address where the car first lived and dont know the supplying dealer either :( How do you go about getting a Copy of these pages from the Essex registration records? What is the Procedure? My car has its original plates but are pressed and much thicker than today's pressed plates mine say "Hills" on them :)
Well thought out and executed. Looks great and very professional.
I was very pleased with the result, for a DIY job. Thank you.

You need to email Essex archives Jo. For a small fee they will scan you a copy of the ledger entry.
