My Great uncle was a medic on seal team one, and he died on his last day on a volunteer prison rescue mission in Vietnam. One day at work I was talking to a girl about it and I noticed she had an old 173rd airborne hat on. So I asked her about it because of this song. Apparently her great uncle was one of the survivors from this battle. Small world.
Wow. Small World indeed. Thanks for sharing
Thank you to your Uncle for his service. God Bless him.
My husband was a combat medic for 2 tours,he could never forget his people.God bless and much love ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@jennyhagemann2538 Please thank him for me for his service. I salute him.
Thank him for his service!
I love Big & Rich. They've been such strong advocates for our Vietnam Vet soldiers. That war might be over, but the battles within still continues! Physically, mentally, our Vietnam Vet Soldiers are still fighting for their lives due to their tours during that horrific war. My soldier did 3 tours, 1967-1974. 40 years of the mental pain. As with thousands of Vietnam Vets, this war was not done with these soldiers yet. Due to my soldier's long term exposure to Agent Orange, he developed Squamous Cell Carcinoma Total Throat & Esphogeal Involment. UCLA hospital & LA VA performed the 16 he surgery. They cut out 3/4 of his tongue, removed right side of his mouth & lower jaw, they took part of clavicle, RT Deltoid, RT femur, both muscle & bone to reconstruct his face. He'd never taste food again. He was on G-tube rest of his life. At time of surgery, Specialists gave him 26% chance of surviving 3-6 weeks without surgery. Then possible 18 months -2 years after surgery & treatments. AFTER the surgery. 6 rounds of 6 weeks chemo & radiation. I promised him I'd make sure he'd live as long as he wanted. I had his back.. This man gave his life for me, for his Country, for YOU! Caring for him 24/7 was the least I could do. He survived 9 years. The Vietnam war finally stole his life. Ed died two years ago May 6. He died from a very hazardous chemical he was dropped into, so he could recover military intelligence left behind. He did recover it. Also recovering intel of Viet Cong. This intel saved lives. Ed receive Medal Of Honor for his missions. Missions that eventually cost him his life. 45 years of mental anguish, 10 years of pain battling cancer, unable to drink, talk, or eat. But towards the end, he proved them all wrong! He did learn to talk, swallow, even if just a bit, walk, even ride his Harley. My soldier love life, loved America, loved riding to Stir his, Gil listed, Palm Spring Bike week, Dayton a, he loved Rock & Country music. Especially those paying tribute to the Country he lived and died for. 🙏💞🏍️🇺🇸
Harley Angelgirl; Many, many Thanks to your Soldier for "all" that he did for his country, for me & many, many others. For the fighting he did in Nam, for retrieving the Military Intelligence & Viet Cong Intel, for giving his life for this country, for living with the pain that his body suffered from, for proving his Doctors wrong, for everything that he's gone thru since fighting for his country. Thank you for being there for him, may he now Rest in Peace.......
I THANK HIM FOR HIS SERVICE AND LOVE FOR HIS COUNTRY. WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T REMEMBER IS THAT THE VIETNAM WAR WAS A WAR AGAINST COMMUNISM. OUR HANDS WERE TIED BY HO CHI MINH. HE THREATENED THAT IF WE WENT TOO FAR NORTH CHINA WOULD ENTER THE WAR (ALL THE WAY). CHINA AND RUSSIA WERE ALREADY HELPING THE VIETCONG SINCE THEY WERE ALL COMMUNIST. .
This song gets me every time! I will be 56 years old October 8th. More specifically, I was born one month to the day before this happened. My grandfather was in that war. My grandfather fought in three wars and wars did not kill him the alcohol did because of PTSD. I grew up with military in my family and I appreciate all those men sacrificed. It breaks my heart I can’t even imagine!
I was 29 days old! I do remember the war because I had an uncle and cousin drafted at 18 in 1969, 6 months after my 21 yr old cousin was killed.
8th of November 1965 I was in in my mother's womb . My mom told me that one of the boys she went to school with came home in a casket , and that was her first experience of the Vietnam War . Her second husband was a 'Nam vet .
If I believed in reincarnation, I’d think I could be one of them. Born on November 8, 1965. As a child I was glued to the 6 o’clock news every day and watched the war play out with Walter Cronkite. My mother told me I’d ask about the death count they gave every night. I have always been drawn to the vets from this war and their history. I had no war to volunteer for at 18 so I went to college. There, I would correct the professors when the disparaged the men who laid down their life so that they (the professors)could express the ingrate fullness . Always tear up when I hear this song.
Thank you to those who served from the bottom of my heart.
My Papa was one of 5 sons. He was 1 of only 2 who survived this war. Unfortunately, they were only able to bury 1 because the other 2 never made it home. It's hard to even imagine the heartache and devastation my great grandparents suffered.
God bless our military and their families. ❤🇺🇲
@paul Provenzano God bless them for their sacrifices. 🙏
This is one of my favorite songs by big and rich.
Really like these guys. The bible says There is no greater love than a man lay dow his life for a friend. My step father served 2 tours in Vietnam. He didnt come back the same. It was a war our soldiers were not prepared for. God bless all those who feel and those who made it back.
My country pissed me off how Americans treated our own when they came home. I say to those who spit kicked them get out of country, these men, women where defending our homeland and allies.
Every time I see a man who has served our country I tell him thank you. IF he is a Viet Nam veteran I tell him bless you also. Too sad.
Thanks to the media!! Just like back then there doing it again. It amazes me how some people can read this crap they write and believe it. But that's why this country was so divided back then and are headed that way again. God open your people's eyes and let them see the truth..
Not the USA, the leftists. Quit placing their evil's blame on the whole of America. they were the ones who promoted slavery. they were the ones who argued against the abolishment of slavery. They were the ones who encouraged indentured servitude and "debt immigration" as a means of procuring vote-slavery (long ago, not the recent version). They were the ones who encouraged scientific/academic investment in eugenic research. They were the ones who befriended Hitler, Mousalini, Stalin, Lenin, Mao, Castro, Che Guevara, and so on (almost endless) and have been sympathetic to the numerous regimes WHILE they practiced racial/ethnic genocides. They were the ones who wrote and voted in the Jim Crowe laws. They were the ones who formed the Kkk. They were the ones who created abortion and promoted single parenthood as a healthy lifestyle choice. They were the ones who protested the Vietnam war and spat on the soldiers who came home. They were the ones who spat on and graffiti-ed historical statues of our forefathers and soldiers of previous generations. They're the ones who condemn every act of soldiery America has ever done or is doing, and the great men who fought in those battles. They are the ones who burn our flag, spit in our soldiers, curse at our forefathers, and ridicule our traditions/cultures. These regressives are the ones who hate all the progress we have made in the past several centuries and want to revert to class-based authoritarian or oligarchical systems where people are impulsively judged on superficial factors. Quit blaming all of these things "on America." Blame them on the correct group. It's all been one,. Always.
@@unclebounce1495 sorry for last post someone at party got hold of my phone but I did not blame all of Americans,if you read it right I said the ones who spit on our military that wasn't everyone it was the evil left, and black live matter who hates this country and the biggest racists against whites and anyone who is not communists
And the children of those stupid hippies are running the country today. 😑
This battle was against so overwhelming odds that these guys that survived were lucky and had good teamwork to hold out.
Absolutely. What a hero that Medic is
Yea, it's a miracle what they accomplished under the circumstances.
They won the fight, but it was bloody.
Thank you. My husband passed 5 1/2 years ago from the results of agent orange. He called Vietnam his war and was proud of his service to his country, a more fearless man I've never met. I miss him so very much.To all who were there, thank you for your service.
BTW, one of his favorite songs was Toby Keith and Willy Nelson's song "Whiskey for my men and beer for my horses." (official video)
My war was in the Middle East, Iraq. Ours was in the desert, theirs was in jungle. So any man who fights for his country, should be honored for the sacrifices they had to make and died for their country.

The truly sad part is how the USA treated the veterans of this war
truth, they where called child killers but they weren't the ones using child soldiers or booby trapping infants the VC was
@@mre4u422 This "child killers" narrative derived from a very real story that was covered where US Special Forces slaughtered whole villages of people. This did happen but was no justification to slander all the brave soldiers that had nothing to do with their atrocities. What made matters worse for the Vietnam Soldiers is that the people responsible for slaughtering those villagers were never held accountable. They were discovered, charged and then subsequently let go. That being said, the Vietnam vets were unjustly treated horribly by the hippies/democrats in the States after and during the war.
And still do treat them horribly
A veteran who was under fire overseas, & in America wearing the American uniform. Let alone all the haters waiting for us coming home from overseas. The best part was taught to always turn into an ambush.

Heather welcome to the club!
Thank you so much for asking Don to review this song. We have to keep these men’s memories alive.
They gave so much and few ever said thanks……
God Bless you Heather, Don and may God Bless all of our veterans and help them find peace.
Thanks very much Cliff & Heather
Kris Kristofferson (who gave the introduction), Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings are the members of a Country supergroup known as “The Highwaymen”. They are all legends. You should check out “Riders in the Sky”.
Of the 4 only Waylon didn't serve in the military. Kris was a helicopter pilot and volunteered to go to Nam but was denied due to him being a Rhodes Scholar. As his service was ending he was being sent to West Point as an English teacher but chose to get out and went to Nashville instead
My son's been in the Army for a year now, serving at Fort Polk, LA. I was there when he "said bye to his mama." I have tears in my eyes and my voice cracks every time I watch that video with the fear every military parent has. God bless our Soldiers, Veterans, and the Fallen.
You need to listen to Daryl Worley’s Have You Forgotten. It is about 9/11.
I was born Nov 10. 63. I’ve seen a lot of men coming home from this war. My best buddy at 3 yrs old I helped him build my first ride. An awesome go cart. See he had both legs blown off. He was a small engine repair guy who got around on a square rolling cart. I knew tools to his surprise I could get him anything he asked me for. His wife wanted to bb sit me. I hung out with him. I was happy they got me a bob pool and pop cycles. I hugged him around the neck a lot and sat on his lap. He called me his angel. Him and his wife got pregnant soon with their own child. I loved him so much. Btw. I still have that go cart. Thank you to all who have served. # Marine/ Navymomma ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was 15. High school. To many people I went to school with didn’t come back, those who did lost more than parts of their bodies. Knew a helicopter pilot. Was to short to joinLAPD when all was said and done. Saved many by the seat of his to short pants. I have never been able to watch anything that has to do with the crazy brave men in combat without totally breaking down. Thank you for the job you ALL did at all times in the America military.
Goodness Gracious 😳 I'm loving this channel 💗 You have more patriotism than a lot of Americans. Thank you for your reverence!!!
WHO SAID THERE ARE NOT A LOT OF AMERICANS ON THIS CHANNEL???? HOW CAN YOU TELL? i AM AMERICAN AND AM VERY PROUD TO BE ONE. A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL NIT PIC AT WHAT IS WRONG WITH AMERICA BUT I'M SURE THEIR COUNTRY IS NOT PERFECT AND DOES NOT RUN TO THE AID OF THEIR ALLIES. AND DIXIE A MAJORITY OF AMERICANS ARE VERY PATRIOTIC. HAVE YOU EVER LISTENS TO AMERICAN COUNTRY MUSIC. TRY SOME OF THESE. ANOTHER THING IS MANY MENTION GOD, JESUS, PRAYER, KING JAMES, BIBLE ETC.

I come from a long line of soldiers and military personnel, including my husband -- serving in every war for, at least, since WW1 (probably more, but I know, for sure, from this one) through my husband's service in Iraq... Veterans and active duty military hold my heart. As a real estate agent, I'm working on developing my niche as a military relocation specialist and specialized agent for veterans. As such, I just really want to say that I can't even begin to tell you how much it means to me to hear your words about the Vietnam war and this battle. My dad was in Vietnam with the 173d three years after this incident. He passed away in 2006 from complications dealing with a liver transplant that was the result of Hep B, which he picked up while serving in Vietnam. Vietnam vets hold a special place in my heart. They were not treated well upon their return and it breaks my heart. Thank you for this...
This song touches my soul everytime I hear it .
I had never heard this song before. Amazing. My hubby is a Purple Heart Vietnam Vet. He doesn't talk much about it except for how people treated them when they were returned home to the hospitals. The treatment of those young men (& women) was horrendous. 😢
Great song, great reaction and great heroism by the men in that battle!
Thank you very much Richard
This brings tears I did two tours in the mekon in 69 we had heard about this in the core these men are all heroes
You said it all. Thanks. I had never heard this song before..
Super song and GREAT reaction, Don! Quite a bit older, but you might check out and react to THE WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD by Gordon Lightfoot. Among the best of story telling in song ever!
Long as it's the correct clip about the Fitzgerald with the intro done by the evening news.
There was actually a documentary to this music video and it's the story behind the song. In the documentary person who the song is about goes back to Vietnam and buries the boots that were in the music video in the jungles of Vietnam. It is a very emotional documentary so I would recommend if you watch it to have something to wipe your eyes with because you will cry while watching the documentary.
This song brings me to tears. My husband was a combat medic in Vietnam for 2 tours, their lives matter, their government destroyed their lives with agent Orange but they did what was ask of them, when my husband died in 2003 he would have done again because he loved this country 💔💔💔💔💔
Very touching and my mind can't comprehend the fear and terror. RIP, to those who died and God bless those living each day with the memories of 11/08/1965.
NOT JUST NOV 8 1965. THERE WERE MANY OTHER CONFLICTS IN VIETNAM AND OTHER WARS AS WELL.
I cry like a baby every time I hear this song..... I was a few months old on the 8th of November.
if you want to hear some amazing music, keep listening to big and rich
When fighting a war it’s best to let the general’s do it instead of politicians... especially when it’s your ass on the line. Keep up the good work Don!!👍
That's the truth. Almost lost it when they had LBJ 's ugly mug show up.
Vietnam could have been easily won after tet, all we had to do was launch a counteroffensive.
I'm so glad you did this song. I almost joined your channel last night to send you this very video. (Shoot, quite selfishly)! Vietnam was such a turbulent time here. Our soldiers were disrespected by so many. We did learn from history and now show appreciation but at a horrendous price. Niles Harris is the fellow who gave Big Kenny his top hat. Also, it was the first war where all our dogs were ordered to be left behind: so many soldiers suffered from leaving their k-9s that our military protocols were changed as a result. We must never forget. Well done, as always!
Thank you very much Laura
Your compassion , humanity and devotion for people really comes through in every video . If only more people cared, even half as much as you; what a wonderful world it would be! ❤
As a veteran, I listen to this song, and I can’t help but I have tears roll up in my eyes. I didn’t serve in Vietnam, nor did I serve in the golf war, but I still feel pain and the loss this song exudes. God bless All military’s and their people, around the world.
Doesn't matter what country and military service you were part off, we are all brothers and sisters. Hats off and lots of respect from one vet to another.
100%. There is always a mutual respect for those who serve their country. There is no more honourable thing imo
My sister had the honor of doing an 800 mile trail ride on horse back and with a covered wagon to bring a Vietnam vet back home to Mississippi from Iowa and I had the honor to sit in on the ride and talk to the veteran on part of the journey and it taught me a lot about the way soldiers were treated and how things in the war were and it gave me more respect for our nation's military it was truly and remarkable experience and ever since then I have taken any opportunity to sit down and talk to our veterans.
This song always gets me. The things my Dad's generation of servicemen endured. I'm from South Dakota, and a former paratrooper, and a combat vet... this song kinda tears me up every time. "All the Way", my Vietnam Airborne brothers!
Salute to our Vietnam veterans. My best friend died there is was 18
💙
My Dad died there a month before I was born. He was only 20 years old. My Mom was a widow at 19 years old.
This has been one of my favorite songs ever since the first day I heard it. My ol man thought I was full of it bc he wasn’t a fan of them prior but told me he was sorry once he finally listened to it. I told him I know a great tune when I hear one. ☺️
they also did a video where they went back to Vietnam with Niles Harris, it is an amazing follow up to this song.
Thank you for posting this !!! I am a Disabled Vietnam Veteran, The stories you hear about how we were treated when we came home, All we did was change one War for another one !! Only this War was MORE HARMFUL !! It was an ATTACK BY OUR OWN PEOPLE & WHAT THEY SHOT US WITH WAS MUCH WORSE THAN ANYTHING THE NVA & VC HAD !! They met us Retuning from Nam with Cursing, Balloons filled with piss , brown lunch bags filled with shit & Rocks & Bottles, We had to go home in Civilian Cloths so we would be harder to spot, That was our Thank you ! many of us NEVER ADMITTED TO BEING IN NAM !! For fear of that the response would be, We couldn't get jobs , i was told by one Company told me ,We can't hire you, Your a Vietnam Vet & EVERYONE KNOWS YOU ARE KILL CRAZY & WE CAN'T TAKE THAT CHANCE, I ended up going back in the Military because i couldn't get a job. BUT 5 yrs later my Combat injuries wouldn't let me go on, I have NO REGRETS & WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN IF NEEDED !! We gave the People of South Vietnam more Freedoms than they have had in only 150 yrs, They called us baby killers BUT I SAW TIME & TIME AGAIN SAW GI's MANY NOT MUCH OLDER THAN THE PEOPLE ( KIDS) THEY WERE PROTECTING !! Time after time i saw GI's running through HEAVY GUN FIRE TO PROTECT THE KIDS, You don't want to know what the NVA & VC used to do to the Villagers , WE CAN'T FORGET WHAT THEY DID OR WHAT WE SAW !!! You lived in fear of dying for 365 days, You never knew if 30 Sec's down the trail if you would even be alive. The War doesn't end just because they say the War is over , Those who have seen War, NEVER STOP SEEING WAR !!, You don't have to like the War to support your Military !! Most og us in Nam didn't like it either BUT THEY NEEDED US , BUT THANKS TO GUTLESS ELECTED LEADERS WHO HINDERED US EVERYDAY, Not being able to get supplies , Making us for in for permission to return fire when fire on, WWI WWII Korea they all had Battle lines, behind the lines was pretty much safe, BUT in Nam there was no behind the lines, EVERY PLACE WAS A BATTLE PLACE, This OLD BEAT UP VET SALUTES YOU SIR !! ITS THE Solider who hate War the most , Because its the Solider who bears 98% of the cost of War, Our selves
I had the honor of meeting this man when i was 12. He is from new bremen ohio and grew up a few houses down from my dad.
Oh this song gets me every time!!🇺🇸
Thank you for reacting to this:) Big and Rich have some great songs and they love to party:)
I adore Big and Rich! Agree completely!
I turned sixteen just before that, and my family was stationed overseas at the time. I still remember walking into an army snackbar the next day and noticed all the soldiers were gathered in quiet groups, looking very serious. I didn't find out til later what had happened, but I'll never forget the expressions on the soldiers faces.😢. God bless our troops❤🇺🇲
It is one this to hear the powerful song. What falls short and is lost in history about past wars; these young men were not trained as they are today.
My father was an orphan in the swamps of Southern Louisiana. At 15, he joined the Army at the end of WWI. No SSN Nor Birth Certificate needed. He was shown how to point and shoot his rifle then shipped off the Japan. Then sent to fight in the Korea War.
After returning, all he knew was training horses and riding bulls.
My father was a brutal man. Alcohalic, a beastly-abusive man. He was found dead in the streets from liver disease and exposure.
A Veteran.
Oh my Lord. That's a tragic story. If only we knew then what we know now in terms of PTSD etc.
Maybe he could've got better help. War changes people no doubt about it. Sorry to hear your relationship with him was difficult
An important difference in previous wars many young men had grown up hunting and were comfortable with weapons. In the south many went to escape the hard downpovertyy
My brother was a Naval Adviser to the South Vietnamese on the Mekong River. Thanks to many family prayers and the Grace of God he came back safe to us.
💙
Don, your assessment of Nam was/is very accurate. Your channel is the best channel for our heroes. Thank you for that. I should mention as a Viet Nam era veteran, that the terrain, the enemy, all of that stuff was tough indeed, but the thing that got many vets was the disappointing support we got from our own Americans. Many of the troops came home to the chants of "baby killers" and many more abusive chants. It was so heart breaking to learn of all of this. One person who many veterans won't talk about today is Jane Fonda. Fonda was a visible political activist in the counterculture era during the Vietnam War. She was photographed sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun on a 1972 visit to Hanoi, during which she gained the nickname "Hanoi Jane". During this time, she was effectively blacklisted in Hollywood.
Never knew that about her. For goodness sake that's disgusting.
We had very similar abusive slurs shouted at us too
@@TheDonsChannel I've seen 'Nam vet t-shirts that read " I'm not Fonda Hanoi Jane " . Jane Fonda is the daughter of Henry Fonda and sister of Peter Fonda . They're very big in Hollywood . Father Henry was a bit left of center in his politics , but was an honorable veteran of WW2 .
This is absolutely one of the best songs ever written about war. It gives me chills and can't help but cry.
They did a documentary where Big and Rich took him back to Vietnam.
Btw Rhoads scholar, musician and actor Kris Kristofferson who introduced this video himself was helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Also there is a video available Big & Rich took Niles back to Vietnam to help him find closure
I can see in your face that your a fellow military man. God Bless. George Tully, MSgt, USAF
Yes I was. Thank you very much
Wow my father was a young marine on the ground in Nam and my father in law was a navy pilot that flew over Nam.
I didn't watch the video the first time I played this. I was listening as I was doing something else.
The pictures of the men in that unit and the names on the wall.
Too many have forgotten.
Is a beautiful song with a touching video.
Thank you for sharing it with us.
So good of you to remember, recall, respect and revere, our veterans Don-dad, thank you.
Betcha never thought you’d have the reach you do now, when you first entertained the idea of doin this...
Never in a million years. Thank you very much for your support and your kind words
My nephew and I play this song every year on 8 November... and will continue to do so as long as we're able. THESE are the stories we need to remember.... now and always.
Always interesting to hear an old vet tell military stories.
One of the guys I grew up with was with the 173rd during that action. One of the best friends I had. I loved that man like a second father, he only talked to me once about it.
My husband was a airborne Ranger in Vietnam on that very day. Wasn't his troops that day in the song... God bless these great soldiers.
Nothing more needs to be said. . . .🥊🥊🥊🥊 (a side note, Kris Kristopherson is an Army vet, a Captain, a Ranger and a helicopter pilot. . .though he never served in Vietnam)
My dad served with Kris in BK Germany, 1964. My dad was/is a(n) Army Dustoff pilot. 2 tours in Vietnam 66-67, 69-70.
GodBlessYou~` for playing this song. I caqn't believe any of them lived through it. My father served 4 tours in Viet Nam.
This is a great one.
My father in law fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars , he was an officer, served 20 years Flew helicopters ,picked up the wounded got shot down twice. He flew three different kinds of helicopters. He lied about about his age went in at 17yrs. Old . My husband was born in Germany 1962 . My father in law is 87 now and can out work men half his age. Thank you to all soldiers 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Love this song. You need to watch John Wayne s God bless America tribute. The 1970 video. It hits you right in the feel good spot. If you can't find it I can send the link.
So glad you did this song! Have you ever heard the Ballad of Ira Hayes? It's an old country song about a solider that fought for his country and came home broken
30 against 1200 ... That's a level of badassery that few can comprehend.... God Bless the U.S military
Absolutely
Love it thank you. It is such a great song ad video.
My pleasure. Thank you very much Heather
Thank you for doing this video and speaking about the Vietnam War. My oldest uncle was drafted and his 3 brothers volunteered as their brother wasn't going to war alone. (only one brother was left at home because he was to young to enlist) One of those brothers was my father. My Uncle had such bad PTSD that he ended up moving to the dessert as he couldn't handle the green vegetation around him. We lost both him and my father to cancer cased by agent orange. **You should listen to On My Watch Tonight by Mike Corrado. Mike is an active duty Marine.
You should listen to toby Keith ballad of balad
My father was in the brown water Navy, out in those little bitty riverboats in Nam.
I LOVE me some Big&Rich! They stand up for what they believe in with no apologies. I saw them in concert and they were just as amazing. Thank you to the men and women who have or are serving this country 🙏🏻🙏🏻 You are much appreciated by me 😘😘
I know a Veteran who was there that day. We play this at the local bar for him.
The bar he visited in this video is very real. The Springwater is in Nashville, Tennessee and is the oldest dive bar in the country. Amazing place if you ever get the chance to visit.
This is a very sad song for my wife and her family my father-in-law was in the 173rd during Vietnam war. He was one of the few that made it home.
A few months after this, my grandpa and his unit were ambushed by VC. They were outnumbered and pinned down. My grandpa was able to make several trips back to their camp and save several lives. His machine gunner was shot in the hand and going into shock, but my grandpa carried him out on his back under artillery fire. His best friend was on a truck that hit a land mine and he didn’t make it out. January 13th was my grandmas 8th of November. He mourned that day every year until the day that he died. Every year on January 13th I thank Sergeant Baxter Carroll for his sacrifice and the friend he was to my grandpa. ❤️
This and Holy Water are my two favorite Big and Rich songs.
An old country singer, Hoyt Axton, has some good 1980's country songs, like "Della and the Dealer, "Evangelina" or "Wild Bull Rider (rodeo song).....one of the most underrated country western singers.
I salute all the Vietnam Vets. Thank you for your service.
Tracy Lawrence- If I don’t make it back.
Please!
My grandfather fought in the Korean war, he made it home, cause here I am,,,love from a small town in Virginia USA
It was horrible. Being a child of WWII Veteran, listening to some Americans call the Soldiers “baby killers” and other horrible things, I was horrified. I had Cousins that fought in the Vietnam War. Some called it a conflict, no it was War. When Men fight and get killed, it’s war. My Father would watch the news and just couldn’t believe that His America, could be that cruel. One of my Cousins used to write me at least every other day and tell me that some places were still pretty there and then would tell me about the body count for those couple days that he didn’t send a letter. He did 3 tours there, not because he wanted to, but because it was his job. He finally came home after the pull out , but neither He nor His older Brother, talked about it and we never asked.
Now you know we love our country🇱🇷
How awful that so many lost their lives in the Vietnam war! A war that never should've been. 🇺🇸❤
I respect our military for putting your live on line for our freedoms, remember this always
Thank you for recognizing the 173rd Airborne, the "Sky Soldiers". The long video that follows Big and Rich with Niles Harris through Vietnam as he goes back to the site where his budgies died is very moving. He buried his boots there, symbolizing the unity between him and the brothers he lost. It's too long for a reaction video but it's worth watching.
Thank u for your understanding of history. Amazing reaction.
all of us who grew up during that time knew someone who was sent there ....then men who came back where so damaged ......it was a very sad
I’m not sure if you have already heard this but in case you haven’t, check out The High Kings Parting Glass. Keep these reactions coming!!
Big & Rich are usually vary boisterous with there songs and videos but ones like this one they show there respect for them
My dad was in Nam, he woke up one night to my stepmoom screaming he was on top of her choking her, he thought she was Charlie, it scared him so bad he slept in the guest room for a long time. He was with my mom when he came back from there n my brother n I were born then, but my mom says she's not sharing stories from that time in her life which I'm ok with. That was one war we should NEVRR HAVE BEEN APART OF. !! He's ok now in his 70s
The Dons Channel you might like to listen to Billy Joel song Good night Saigon
Agreed. I just submitted the link!
That's a sad story, but a great song, video & duo! Thanx Donfather! Leave the gun, take the cannoli. xx 🤣😉
Ok at the end! I saw the Brotherhood ! You know ? You know!!❤
You should watch the documentary they made, they took harris back to Vietnam and spent some time there, it really shows a lot.
This is the song I was requesting. I lost a 21 yr old cousin over there and my 18 yr old uncle and cousin was drafted there. I remember it like yesterday. Both of them were damaged from agent orange. My cousin died from it and my uncle has severe health issues. By the way, we are proud McEachern’s from the the Isle of Kintyre. You should watch the documentary about Niles Harris and Big & Rich going back the Vietnam.
I would like to think I was the one who suggested this song. Several family members were born on the 8th of November. I was drafted on November 23, 1965. This always had a special place in my heart. Just doin' what we had to do.
I've been enjoying all of your videos, thanks for sharing your thoughts and it's great to hear your perspectives. I'm not sure if anyone has already suggested you react to any of Oversimplified's videos? Especially the one for American Revolutionary War, to start. They make condensed history videos with humor, are very fun to watch, and I think you would enjoy reacting to them. The American Revolutionary War one covers a lot of how the battles went down between British and Continental troops and in general does an entertaining job of showing how the US of A came to be born.
there is a video where they went to Nam with the gentleman in the video for his first time back.
Big & Rich has a documentary where they traveled with Niles Harris back to Vietnam back to the area where he fought. I highly recommend watching that. You can find it on there UA-cam channel.
When I was growing up this was on the news all of the time.
I joined the Marine Corps on August 18, 1968, the hottest time to do it. 8 months later I was in South Vietnam 🇻🇳. I was lucky, I only stayed 6 months. But that was enough. I was a cook at a fire base. We got shelled every day in the mess area, to get as many Marines as possible. I can’t imagine what the grunts took. My life brother was drafted in the Marine Corps while I was in Vietnam.
Kris Kristofferson was also a commissioned army officer of the rank of captain who joined in 1960 he completed ranger school and was a helicopter pilot as well . He wanted to go to Vietnam but they wouldn’t let him instead assigning him to teach literature at West Point it was at this point that he got out of the military
