    Thank you so much for posting this! I just did the thermostat on my 2012 Cayenne Turbo and this video was very very helpful! Best things learned were how to pop the clip on the lower radiator hose to drain, how to use a strap to pull the old stat out, and also making sure I had the 30mm socket for the belt tensioner. Excellent video!!

      There are many sellers on Amazon with the same product, just labelled under different brands. This is the kit I purchased, but any 28PC kit from any seller should be identical if the photo matches.

    Definitely one of the most explained and detailed videos about 958 cayenne. And I have seen a lot. Let me ask you, to fill up the coolant it is necessary to do the vacuum thing? If it is, can you give me what is needed to buy? Regards

    • @bofbolts
      @bofbolts  Рік тому

      Thanks, I appreciate the comment! Like and subscribe, it’ll help me out!
      It’s definitely not necessary, but you will have to continuously “burp” the system and top up, drive, top up, and perhaps get stuck with an airlock. It’s no fun.
      It’s always better to use the vacuum method so you can ensure it’s full and you have nothing to worry about. It’s also really good method to ensure you have no leaks at the same time.
      You can buy any coolant refill set from
      Amazon, they’re all basically the same labeled under different sellers. Just search 28pc coolant refill kit
      This is what I used:

    I have a 957 that I'll be replacing the starter for soon, and I have a very slow coolant leak (the reservoir level drops a tiny bit during the week, so I've been topping it until I get all the parts/tools that I ordered for the job).
    I suspect it's the thermostat socket (I will know when I remove the intake manifold and inspect the V).

    Thanks for this video! I have a 2011 Turbo and aside from the turbo pipe work it looks exactly the same. Question, is their a good way to add coolant with out the vacuum device?

    • @bofbolts
      @bofbolts  Рік тому +1

      You can definitely add coolant to the reservoir and burp the system by manually squeezing the large coolant pipes and look for air bubbles at the reservoir, let the car run at idle and get to operating temp, keep on topping up the reservoir - but it’s a slow process and sometimes can be a pain to get it to burp out the air. I highly recommend the fill tool, which also allows you to check for leaks.

    • @bofbolts
      @bofbolts  Рік тому

      @@liquidflorianI would attempt to burp it without the bleeder open, but if still no luck then you can try the bleeder.
      I’m surprised the tool didn’t work, did you pull a strong enough vacuum? And did you replace your thermostat?

    • @liquidflorian
      @liquidflorian Рік тому

      @@bofbolts The burping worked, I did both with the valve open and closed. I'm not sure what happened, I mixed the 5L of coolant 1:1 with water according to the instructions, but ended up with 4L left over. The vacuum exchanger worked but It didn't take the whole mix. I have a lot left over now. lol
      I had done Thermostat and Water Pump. The Pump was still good, but I figured while I was there I should change it out anyway. My thermostat had been leaking bad.

    Thanks so much for answering. Certainly I will subscribe since I have the same car but turbo. And I have a mechanic shop but for Lexus and Infiniti only. And as you know Porches are different cars and difficult to understand, plus there is not much information about them for repairs.

    • @bofbolts
      @bofbolts  Рік тому

      Porsches are surprisingly quite easy to work on. Especially the Cayenne. It’s a glorified VW after all :)

    • @eliaszafrani
      @eliaszafrani Рік тому

      @BucketofBolts Well, let me tell you my experience. I dismounted everything on the dashboard and the air conditioning unit to change the evaporator on many Lexus. It's a lot of work but practically easy to do. I'm just doing wring now the same for my cayenne turbo and definitely is a totally different thing. Very, very much more complicated, more plugs and modules. But it is definitely a very well assembled car compared to Lexus. Certainly, they are glorified VW and easy to work on IF you have worked on VW and/or German car.

    • @eliaszafrani
      @eliaszafrani Рік тому

      @BucketofBolts Let me give you a clear example. If you have to change a seat belt or even a brake actuator with the ABS on a Lexus or Infiniti, just replace them, and that's it. On Porsche, you have to read and re-write everything on every module. And that is a hassle. Regards

    @bofbolts Incredible video. I have a 958.2 turbo. Just had the water pump and thermostat replaced and now coolant is leaking everywhere under the car. My service garage is now saying coolant leak is coming from under the intake manifold. Does that seem likely that they wouldn't have noticed when replacing the thermostat and water pump? I'm now highly skeptical. I really appreciate any insight you can provide. Thanks, and again, awesome video!

    • @bofbolts
      @bofbolts  8 місяців тому +1

      Ah that really sucks! It's actually quite common for the pipes under the intake to fail on pre-2013 and some 2014 958's. That being said, definitely odd timing that it failed after you changed the water pump / thermostat.
      I would say just confirm the leak isn't coming from the thermostat/water pump job they just did. If it's coming from under the intake, its definitely not UNCOMMON for the

      The V6 is a bit different in that the thermostat and water pump are not in the same location. Water pump is very similar procedure and very easily accessible.
