Honestly, this is one of the few truly genuine talk show interviews. No script, the guy went off the rails, Conan handled it masterfully. Quality stuff that today's late night hosts couldn't top in their prime.

I was born 90, and it's weird to me. I think they got away with it here because it's Denis Leary (stolen from Bill Hicks..) "shtick". It's ok as long as it's considered "part of the act/ performance". Even in '96, you didn't see casual smoking on late night.
@@RonPaulRevolution500 Yeah I was born in 83 and only vaguely remember when people could smoke in our local mall. And hospitals and pretty much anywhere. By the early 90s that was nearly done with the exception of some restaurants having smoking sections. But cigarettes were still everywhere in the 90s (magazines, billboards, movies) and most kids I knew started smoking at age 11/12 my high school had a designated smoking area outside. Despite all that it was odd even to me to see someone smoking on a late show in 96 until I realized it was Dennis Leary whose the one smoking and I personally can't remember ever seeing him without a cigarette back then lol.
