I didnt even consider Werner Herzog could be on Conan when I thought about what guests could be great on this podcast, but just seeing the title im beyond excited to hear the full thing. Herzog is just so intense, odd and endearingly entertaining. uniquely articulate and very perceptive. I think about him every time I see chickens roam. Conan can bounce off of anyone but especially such a deep well of philosophical insight and particular grasp on the human condition
That story about his mentor is just too beautiful and touching to hear. Despite losing almost all the ability to enjoy life, it's usually the attachment to people you cared for that's kept you living. That's the most powerful spell in the world.
He was one of my brothers closest friends. He entertained us for years. My brother invited him to a private dinner where he introduced him to his now wife. He called my brother every year on their anniversary to thank him for introducing them. Fascinating guy and loyal.
Werner Herzog is one of the GOATs. Fascinating guy. It's on my bucket list to shake hands with him someday and tell him how much I appreciate his films and his personality. He's such a chill, wise dude.
I could listen to him talk for hours. I am gonna get this on audiobook I think, I know he narrates it. It's crazy to think that he was born in 1942 in Germany. Very few people that are alive right now can say that. The fact that one of them is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time makes us truly lucky.
I literally cried on this interview's story. Thank you for the inspiration. I want to approach the world the same way, on foot and awake, to see everything and to feel life itself.❤
Man, I don't know how often I've heard Werner Herzog tell these stories. I've read some of his books and seen the B-Rolls and documentaries. But it still touches me to the core every single time when I listen to him retelling them.
Oh, love Herzog to bits for decades! Such a rare sincere minute on Conan laughter-fest! These particular stories are so poignant, they humble us to think how blessed we are, especially who live in English-speaking part of the 21 century world, not to split a loaf of bread for a week with despair in our eyes whenever your child comes and you have nothing to feed them. Or not to hear bombs flying and someone will armedly hate you for being born the wrong race/country/nationality. So thank you Conan for an unexpected minute of not-laugher for a change.
That story was so painful, i have a lump in my throat trying not to cry. I can't imagine the despair of not being able to feed by toddler. If he cried to me for 3 days about being hungry, and i could not feed him. I can't imagine the desperation his mother must have felt.
