These turbos are 4 litres. Meaning they’re as big as a 2jz engine. And the Cummins engine can handle a shit ton of torque. Jeep 4.0 is a tank. My brother bought one with over 200k and beat it. Radiator had a hole and he would fill it in the morning and sometimes get caught in traffic and drive 15-25 minutes with no coolant and temp on max. Sold it to a neighbor who fixed it and drove it across country.
The engine from the VW Beetle does deserve some recognition as they are close to indestructible. Sure you can't build it to deliver insane power, but they are reliable and simple. Basic maintenance and they will live forever. The design was really made for reliability. By using air cooling they avoided the risk of the coolant freezing and cracking the block. remember these were designed in the 30's or 40's, I can't remember exactly, but they are still here today and still working. They've been used in a lot of different applications such as airplane engines. Simplicity, reliability and low weight has made them pretty successful.
The hate on the In-line 6 4.0 is insane. The motors are pretty much bulletproof with regular maintenance. Id argue the Jeeps these were in back in the day are way nicer then the Pentastar. Sure it might be boring cause you dont often boost them, but they are easy to work on.
imma cry over that jeep 4.0 placement. yall should give one a shot and see how much it surprises you. they are absolutely bulletproof, and have been around for a very long time. especially if you include the AMC 4.2 in the mix. mine is making 610 hp and 943 ft/lbs with a bore/stroke and a 72 mm turbo. with forged internals, an aggresive cam, and MLS gaskets, this is an absolute torque monster thats unkillable. makes power well into the 5k's and has unbelievable torque until about 4600. definitely worth giving it a shot on the channel

Volvo red block and white block (in the latter case maybe specifically the T5) should have been on the list, but since they also have no idea wat a 1.9TDI engine can do ... They would probably have rated it F-tier. And we are probably missing more "legendary" EU engines, I don't know how high they rank with enthusiast. However VW GTI engines (I know they differ over the years), VR6, VW/AUDI 4.2 V8, Mercedez 63 AMG (should definitely have been on the list), ALFA 3.2 V6, Renault sport engines, there are tonnes more!
Another Jeep 4.0 owner here. Anyone new or old here should know that there is a TON of chrysler bias on this channel. We know what they're worth, what they can do and it (the 4.0) shouldn't be lumped in with all Chrysler cars a whole. B or C is more than fair. Reliable, built to last and simple to work on.
I bought a Chevy small block in an RV for $800, s*** started up no problem after 25 years of sitting with no oil. Flush the engine crank the key started right up no questions.
I took auto mechanics in a career school in my junior year in HS. Had a teacher named Delmas sleeth. Within a few seconds of car rolling in garage he would tell you what was wrong with it.
I want a European version of this. 2.0 TDIs are very popular because of emissions standards in Europe. The turbo versions are pretty damn reliable and make 200bhp with just a remap. They can take alot of abuse with normal maintenance. The 3.0 TDI is the crown jewel of European diesels imo. With a proper exhaust, they don't sound nor feel like a diesel engine but with all the benefits. I had a 3.0 TDI A5 that made 450bhp with a hybrid turbo. One of the best handling cars I've ever driven with a stupid amount of torque. I didn't launch much but the few times I did it felt like a rocket given they have one of the best AWD systems ever made. The only car I was willing to replace it with was a 4.2L S5.

Forgot the Barra too. Powered the Australian taxi's for many years and millions of km's, will also happily make 1000hp. I suppose finding parts in the US could be difficult (I literally have no idea), but can find parts on the side of the road here.
Nissan vq? Vg? Mistsubishi 4g63? Toyota beams? 2zz? SOme decent engines id like to see rated...
The 4.0 at F is unbelievable. Had a number of them and always bulletproof.
Great vid, you two have good on screen chemistry.. keep it coming
the VW TDI won multiple DAKAR Rallye, that should be enough to make it's place clear
Y'all forgot about Mitsubishi and the 6G72TT, 6G74TT, as well as the 4G63.
Hell, even the 64 can take most of the same mods made for the 63, with little work outside of a head swap, and put down reliable numbers.
This is an epic duo.
VW TDI engines are crazy good.
These guys definitely need a show together, they have great chemistry
The hate on the In-line 6 4.0 is insane. The motors are pretty much bulletproof with regular maintenance. Id argue the Jeeps these were in back in the day are way nicer then the Pentastar. Sure it might be boring cause you dont often boost them, but they are easy to work on.
17:02 Love the adult swim bump style editing for the merch promo. Love this channel man.
imma cry over that jeep 4.0 placement. yall should give one a shot and see how much it surprises you. they are absolutely bulletproof, and have been around for a very long time. especially if you include the AMC 4.2 in the mix. mine is making 610 hp and 943 ft/lbs with a bore/stroke and a 72 mm turbo. with forged internals, an aggresive cam, and MLS gaskets, this is an absolute torque monster thats unkillable. makes power well into the 5k's and has unbelievable torque until about 4600. definitely worth giving it a shot on the channel
My Mk5 TDI Jetta is pimpin. It Rolls coal, sounds good, hasn’t had a single issue in 5 yrs of ownership and 35mpg at 210k miles.
No Merc engines ..??
I see Sandro I like.
Love seeing some diesels added into the video. Started off thinking this was going to be a common engines to work on type thing but this was a real good surprise
Adam singlehandedly pissed off every Jeep owner on the planet and I'm all here for it
Straight up...Sandro!!!!!! Put him on with anybody and it's good content. Except for the new kid. He needs a lil more shop time 😂😂
I was at one of the street outlaws no prep king event and 2 guys came in with electric engine swaps. The first guy I met had an electric El camino and the other guy had an electric Hayabusa
VW VR6 could def be a S tier contender imo
The Barra is like our LS. Benny's Barra Powered Cresta is mint.
Can we just appreciate Adam''s Moo Deng tshirt?
Still waiting on Sandro and Angie to race 🏁
Ty I came for the yote and was happy with the grade! We don’t have much history like a hemi or an LS but with alittle love this engine will make anybody smile! 😊
So glad to see the love for the rotaries!
13b is going to be criminally underrated I already know
It’s only because it’s a beautifully wonderful yet absolutely horrible engine. Doesn’t mean that I haven’t almost pulled the trigger on one before buying an 8th Gen with the K20. Almost all the revs with none of the rotary problems.
I still want one, though.
91 small block chevy. Dads truck sat in a field for 8 years. New battery and immediately started. Fuel pump died in less than a minute.
You could see Miranda thinking about turbo'ing that Prius Motor
I have an Outback, with a 3.6 H6, and I LOVE it!
I know a guy who swapped a tdi into his Tacoma. Fabricated some shit to keep the Toyota stuff from the clutch back. It was amazing on the trails, and easy to work on! Parts where cheap too.
i had a super beetle and a vw bus and depending on what we were doing for the weekend we would just drop the motor and put in the other one take like 20 min
6:34 you have no idea lol
You're who they're talking about lmaoooo
I'm always happy when a new video comes out. In my heart, Sandro is my tío.
Eres el mejor tío Sandro!
Geez, this sheet needs the Volvo red block. What the hell guys
22:20 Uber shows up and asks “who ordered the escargot?”😂
The 1nz on the Prius is actually a good engine. When you convert it to Otto you get a motor with 13:1 compression that makes good power for a 1.5
K is the way.
The Jeep slander is crazy, a 4.0 high output from a 90’s jeep is amazing, super reliable, and a BUNCH of torque.
I’m sure not including the *Volvo T5* engine was an oversight, right?
Volvo red block and white block (in the latter case maybe specifically the T5) should have been on the list, but since they also have no idea wat a 1.9TDI engine can do ... They would probably have rated it F-tier.
And we are probably missing more "legendary" EU engines, I don't know how high they rank with enthusiast. However VW GTI engines (I know they differ over the years), VR6, VW/AUDI 4.2 V8, Mercedez 63 AMG (should definitely have been on the list), ALFA 3.2 V6, Renault sport engines, there are tonnes more!
love those, my parents had a metallic orange 850 R. thing was chipped and had 300 hp. fast as hell back in '99.
Sandro thru the whole video : "Turbo that shit !" 😅😅
Another Jeep 4.0 owner here. Anyone new or old here should know that there is a TON of chrysler bias on this channel. We know what they're worth, what they can do and it (the 4.0) shouldn't be lumped in with all Chrysler cars a whole. B or C is more than fair. Reliable, built to last and simple to work on.
B for sure. I pulled plugs on one: .098 to .103! Seriously; it still ran ok. Already liked them, but that impressed me.
Cope
I bought a Chevy small block in an RV for $800, s*** started up no problem after 25 years of sitting with no oil. Flush the engine crank the key started right up no questions.
Ask the Aussies about Rb engine cracking, definitely lower than a Jz
They twist themselves apart.
I took auto mechanics in a career school in my junior year in HS. Had a teacher named Delmas sleeth. Within a few seconds of car rolling in garage he would tell you what was wrong with it.
The list is actually pretty solid
this video got my attention so fast, I can sleep watching this now
I want a European version of this.
I don't own any of these engines but how some of these are ranked is crazyy
Great video guys I learned alot
15:39 the Chrysler developed Hemi aero engine was a V-16 cylinder engine intended for the Republic XP-47H variation. With this engine it was the fastest factory Thunderbolt at 505 mph in experimental guise. The Hemi elements of this engine have very little in comparison to the Hemi developed later auto engine, mainly cause it was a real hemi
Make a video about Detroit, Catapiller, Paccar, Daimler, and other easy-to-work-on heavy-duty truck engines.
Where's the Mitsubishi 4G63??
Not mentioning the VR6 or VQ is crazy work !!
"There was a guy...really high up" omg I fell out laughing.
Great vid.
Adam's mic started filtering (robotic; echo feedback) bad towards the middle of the episode @Tony; might have to switch that one out for next time.
i have a 5.3l ls out of a 02 silverado in my 99 jeep xj and man it is awesome all stock.
