I'm from the future, you will buy a rc51, November 2018
Never sell your 600 you’ll regret it later , I have four and all different animals , and one is a VFR 1200f , Honda technology has always been beyond everyone else !!
xD watched this vid bcuz uf that
i have a vtr 1000sp1 ...i dont drive it actually at all i want to sell it
@@klevissotaj7400 Your name...it`s an albanian name. So i`m thinking you DON`T have an SP1,you never HAD an SP1 and at best you have a donkey. An maybe a cart for the donkey....
@@EVILSPAWN1003 try me
I have a 2003 rc51 with 109200 miles still running strong its an amazing machine
Is it still going strong?
@@CopterKev as of right yes just i think I popped a fuse and it won't start 🙃
I've got an '01 with less than 30K on it. Every time I think about selling it, I ride it first, and change my mind. Fantastic machine. I 'll never understand why Honda doesn't bring it back. With all the tech and engine advancements made over the years, it would be a hell of a weapon.
I just bought an 03 rc51 for 800 bucks at an estate sale. It sat indoors for five years was dusty but great shape. I put new tires new fluids new battery cleaned fuel system out and it fired right up. Has 8200 miles on it. Was bought by an older guy new and he died and it sat in his wife’s garage since. Then she passed and her kids sold it to me.
@@MrGixxer1Thousandthat’s awesome. Just bought one last week for 800 bucks at an estate sale.
I owned a Suzuki gsxr1000. And I thought it sounded great... Till a buddy of my friend came riding in with his rc51. I will never forget the glorious sound. Wow
I remember my dad buying one used in the late 2000s, coming home racing past the house at 70mph at 10k rpm in our residential area in race leathers was a sight to behold. He pulled into the driveway and redlined it. It was one of the many times in my youth that made me love street bikes/crotch rockets.
I just bought my first one literally today I’m so excited
this is and has been my favorite bike of all time and I'm finally going to get the RC51 as my next bike. love the s2000 cluster.
Men i remember in 02 when i just got my m1 license and they had some of this on sale on craigslist. Shoulda pick one up then.
As an aprilia RSVR Factory owner, I give mad props to the RC51.
Same as a R1 owner
Have you rode both bikes? How do they compare?
@@StoneStraiff never been lucky enough to personally know an rc51 owner, but everyone ive spoken to who has, including other RSVR Owners, has mad respect for it.
The RC51 is the first bike I ever rode and forever changed how I felt about motorcycles and sparked a passion that is lifelong
The RC51 is the first bike I ever rode on the street. I had my learner's permit at the time. Had no idea how special this bike was, and have wanted one for years. Ended up buying a CBR600F4i which I also love tremendously. Honda makes awesome bikes 👌
I'm on a F4i and looking at getting a RC51
Wow you’re still alive 👍👍
Ah the One Liter Duc-Eater... I wanted to buy one myself after going to a bike meet and seeing one. You don't see many Vtwin sportbikes from Japan so it immediately caught my eye... Kinda expensive though. So I did the next Best thing. Got a 2005 Sv1000s with GSXR Front end with racetech internals, R6 brakes with stainless lines, Hydraulic clutch, steering stabilizer, full yoshimura system, power commander, lithium battery, and an ohlins shock.. Rose the bars for a more comfy ride... Torque monster, wonderful handling and I got those gear driven cams as well lol
My first bike was an SV1000s and I loved it. I now own an RC51 SP2 and I’ll never get rid of it. People come up to me all the time offering to buy it.
Never sell the SP2! I am sure illustrator has a fun set up and maybe more comfortable but SP2 is special
- The illestrator - RC51 still cooler.
Got an 2005 black final edition... So happy worth every penny
I Have a Vtr 1000 and im dying for a RC 51. how is the insurance on it?
A VTR1000 SP2 being started and several car alarms going off in a nearby parking lot. Frikkin epic.
It's literally the only V-twin I would want to own.
I had a nicely set up one with a full Akra system, dyno 140hp. It would literally set off any car alarm within 50 mtrs of the bike. I would have a crowd of people cheer as I went past at full noise whenever I took it to the track. For a sport bike they were a slow steering heavy pig straight out of the box though. It had an amazing ability to retain control whilst completely spinning up the rear wheel, some tracks the rear wheel would completely break loose at 250 km/h under full throttle, but you could still steer it through a corner. The most fun I've ever had on a bike was that bike at Phillip Island. It was hella uncomfortable, and I had to spend about 30k on it to get it to go good.
Richard Anderson first off I apologize for not knowing you , because anyone that can spool the rear wheel at that speed under full throttle deserves to be known! by the way is that a typo @ 30k or should that be 3k? I raced for ten years but in motocross and made top ten experts in Maryland and D.C. and street raced and drag raced at the track buy yet am still impressed at your claim!! Great riding! Be safe out there!
To this day, the RC51 is timeless in style! Beautiful!!
Great bike just remember a 48 yr old man won the 2000 tt on one the great joey Dunlop
Only because David Jeffries yamaha r1 has a mechanical failure. You are right though a great bike and even a greater rider.
@flip inheck That's some serious riding. To beat david jeffries is something special. but to beat him on a smaller machine is outstanding. It goes to show how good joey dunlop really was.
@flip inheck just watched your link to the race and hoooooly shit, Joey Dunlop did the damn thing! I had no idea he beat out Jefferies on a 750! It makes this bike just that much more impressive/important to me and Moto racing history.
Man! This video makes me miss my 2006 RC51 so bad! Due to medical reasons, I had to sell it last year, but at least I had the opportunity to own my Dream Bike from October 2013-September 2017. After the PC III, new sprocket setup, and suspension setup to my weight, my RC51 was an animal and that sexy beast had such an amazing Vtwin sound, but I LOVED the cam gear whine and strange stares from people trying to figure out why it sounded like a lumpy muscle car! 😊 This bike is made for twisties! Thank you for the upload! 👍🏽
I own one for over 10 years now and still love everything about it! It’s indeed a rare bike to come across.
Just came over from viewing your VFR video! I guess you could say you and I see eye to eye. I loved my 97 VFR750F with a passion and still wish I had it today, and it remains my favorite model in the long history of VFR line up changes. I guess it was a logical step when I laid out a pre-release payment on a 2000 RC51. Such a beautiful and soul stirring bike! Nearly 55,000 miles and almost 20 years later I still have it and have been coast to coast and North to South on it a number of times. I love it, will never sell it and still browse the internet for another VFR 750F...ah, dreams...
I'm here in 2020. I have a 2003 CBR954 (classic) but the one bike that grabs my attention more than the 954 is the RC51...I love this timeless classic.
The RC51 is responsible for my patella reconstruction. Still one of my favorite superbikes of the last twenty years.
I spoke to a guy who I had a pleasure speaking to and he had a great story behind this exact bike he was riding. He told me he gets offers all the time and would never sell. I believe he had roughly 80/90 thoudsand miles on it and still sounded MEAN! when he took off from the red light....I got goose bumps hearing that vtwin . Gorgeous bikes!!!
2:01 tachometer looks like it has been borrowed from a s2000
piyush Gadekar exaclty what I thought.
Actually it's the other way around. Honda borrowed the idea from the RC51 for the s2000
supra90turbo didn’t know that, guess you learn a new thing everyday. Thanks for sharing that!
This came before the S2K.
That's funny you say that I was thinking the exact same thing!! & that motorcycle & the S2000 came out the same year so I think Honda did take it right from the S2000 or vice versa hahaha
I so agree with you. VFR 750 RC36 (before restyling in 2006, I think) and these RC51 SP1/2 are two of my top favorite of all time motorbikes.
Vfr750 is so underrated too I'm glad you mentioned the rc35 and later VFRs. My 97 is my favorite pre 2010 bike
I love this bike! I had a 2004 "Nicky Hayden Edition" (RIP) with a Power Commander and Yoshimura dual exhaust. Ideling, it sounded like a helicopter. That high pitch whine from the gear driven cams sounded sick as well. The bike had no head shake and I got it up to 186 with some sprocket modification and cam two fuel. The front air induction was cool looking and with a K&N filter the bike just roared. The dual exhaust was also very unique as well. The only thing I didn't like, was the gas tank, which my forearms would hit if I was moving the bike slowly. The front brakes sounded like there were two stones grinding together when applied, it was a cool sound. Very rare bike and I regret selling it.
I had a 2002 SP2 and was the best sport bike I ever owned. I also had the 1999 VFR800 which I believe was the best interceptor ever with the gear driven cams. Now I'm on my second blackbird and hope to grab another RC51 soon. Thanks for the video review.
Just bought my RC51 for $1000 can't wait to bring the bike back to life sat for over 10 years.
had a 2001 RVT1000R RC-51 (SP1) with Micron's, sold in 2004, I had amazing bikes after, but the RC-51 is the ONLY bike I ever regretted selling it... glad i took plenty of pictures of it lol
I loved the idea of a v-twin sport bike so much I bought its watered down predecessor, the street friendly SuperHawk 996 back in it's intitial year, '97. I'm telling you with a carbon fiber TwoBrothers 2 into 2 full system the 996 v-twin sounds amazing. I just couldn't wait for the real duck killer to come out. I had to have this torque monster. I probably will buy a used RC51 also. I just love these v-twins and the RC51 did it exactly what it was built to do in it's very first year. Impressive is an understatement when speaking of the RC51.
This was the first super bike I rode, I was 14 when I rode it.
The most mental V twin.
Absolute demonic sound
Oh that melodic whine of Honda's gear driven cams! My '88 CBR400RR has 'em and it sounds incredible!
I currently own a 2001 SP1. I’ve always wanted an RC51 since I first saw it. There is just something about the sound of those gear driven cams and that v-twin turning 10k rpm that just will never be replicated again.
This engine is AMAZING. Torque like no other. Reliable. And that sound. I love my SP2.
I have been riding an RC51 for several years. I just love it!
That's my baby!! Got it after Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden won the WSBK and AMA superbike championships!
SP2!!!
Never owned or ridden a motorcycle, only been a passenger but always have taken an interest, have my list of favourite bikes.
I have a few friends who are riders and surprise some folks by knowing a thing or two.
A guy up he road from me had one of these VTR’s just like the thumbnail and I remember it sounding ballistic even sat at tick over in his driveway!
Great videos, you’ve earned a new subscriber.
Cant help but think of a great racer named Nicky Hayden when I here about this bike. R.I.P
The front brace was just there to keep the front fairing in place. It had nothing to do with handeling
93ish% correct, it does stop the fairing deforming in stange asymetrical ways (reducing a percentage of different, changing handling),
..and does take some of the additional loadings from the aerodynamics & suspension bouncing/wobbling harmonic resonances of the fairing and lights, away from effecting from the induction intake tubes own resonances.
Dont'cha tease me, HeroRR, gimme that sweet RC30-video, please! ;)
Just bought one of these for 800 bucks at an estate sale. Sat for five years is dirty but in fantastic shape. I cleaned the fuel system put new tires new battery new fluids and it fired right up. Has 8200 miles on it
You stole that bike! I'll give you 1800 for it!😂
Ah my old roomate had one of these, what an amazing beast, such a flickable bike with a great power band
Great video. Owner of an 04 Nicky Hayden Edition. Was thinking of selling it, but after watching your video and reading the comments of people regretting getting rid of their RC51, I think I've changed my mind. I believe I will regret it also. Especially that the bike is mint and only has 4000 miles on it. Not bad for an almost 20 year old bike. Thank you for changing my mind. Lol.
I've tried several times to get my hands on the legend, but the owner always backed out of the trade, but the dream lives on
Loved my RC51.......Replaced all the plastic with black carbon fiber and painted the gas tank red and black. All the hardware was gold........fuckin’ gorgeous! I’m on a Buell 1125cr now.......but I still miss the old girl.
Had the pleasure of owning a 2001 RC51..Such a torque monster...great bike...I miss it..
If there is one thing I like about my RC51 above all, it would be just how stable it feels at any speed. And at least for my stature/build, I am more comfortable on it when loooooong rides are called for.
I remember in high school that this was the coolest bike ever.
This was one of my first motorcycles and I will always miss that Beautiful cam gear V-twin sound and regret selling it.
Have always loved this bike!! I worked for a dealer that sold Honda and Ducati. While I never rode the 851, I did ride the RC51, an amazing bike!!!
great vid... got a sp1 for a couple of months now and i love it.. along with my 1199s and 2005 fireblade the rc 51 definitly has the most soul ...just something special
Behind me now in the shed is my SP1. Absolute cornering machine. I sent the bouncy stuff of to Kyle Racing for a proper work over. Changed the Bike immensely!
Fast....176 with stock gearing, don't need to go that fast so I dropped a tooth in the front and added three in the rear.
Will pull the front up around 50 quite easily, 60-70 on a cold day. But it's the sound it makes! The gear driven cams are astounding. As you said. It's not the fastest bike out there there from 2000
But I've Never lost to a Hardley from a stop light or in a dig.
Great Vid BTW!
I have a Rc51 and a Supra
I’m jealous!
I have also same pair. Original JDM TT Manual.
You lucky devil!!!
Living the dream 🤘
my brother has one. total blast. maybe not the power as modern sportbikes. but thats not necessarily whats its about. we grew up watchin Nicky Hayden win on one of these.
I own a 2000 RC-51.... #33 off the production line. Great bike
One of the most gorgeous bikes made
When it first came out I went to the Dealer thinking I would trade in my 1 year old VFR but after sitting on it minutes I was in pain after years of injuries. Physically too small and crouched but still fantastic looking to this day. Opted for an Africa Twin instead. Honda, bring back the double round headlights, enough of the frowning face that all bikes seem to have now.
I owned a 2002 sp1 in Bangkok, Thailand for 2 years. Regret every day that I sold it. Had a gixxer600, cbr650r and currently own a cbr600rr and gsx-s750, but nothing compares to the RC51. The sound, the feel, the drive, the torque, and even today, the looks.
Dude, do one on the 80's VF Interceptors, that's the one that started everything down the path to where we are now with sport bikes.
After working on the Woodstock 94' Fest, 7 days a week for 5 weeks, I bought myself an 84' VF1000f Intercepter. I loved that bike. It was a great sport touring platform. At over 500 lbs it soaked up the miles, and that big V-4 was always ready to take you into the Triple Digits!
I used to have a Honda RC-51 and absolutely love it!!! Wish I could post some pictures of it here.
Are you a woman ?
Because your name is Melissa .
Just bought 2004 Honda RC-51, watching your video about the awesome bike made want to get one being shipped out to me can't wait to here and ride the beauty!
Both beautiful looking and sounding bike. That idle cam gear whine is sick.
The SP2 was a bike that I loved to hate after I rode it for the first time, it wasn't comfortable the clutch was heavy and the handling demanded respect, you had to respect this bike or it would shake you of its back like a wild horse. My friend insisted that I'll keep riding his bike while he rode my ZX9R and I started to understand and trust this bike in a way that I could never trust my ZX9R, suddenly this bike made sense, it was me who didn't understand it and I could never go back to my ZX9R after that, thanks for this video mate!
I have to agree, in the late 80's my buddy had a VFR 750, I loved the gear whine.
top 5 bike in my book. Rc51, rc30, cbr954rr, vfr 800, and the oddball sv1000n. Not in that particular order, because i honestly could not put these in an order lol
Love V motors in bikes. I have had a VFR400R NC24 and now have a VFR400R NC30 1991 model and a VFR800FI 2001 model. The V motors have plenty low down torque and makes it a real pleasure to ride. Only trouble I have had was the Rectifier on the 800. Both VFR's are in mint condition. Lots of bikers cant believe the condition of my NC30. Thank the Lord for Japanese Bikes. Tks for the Video.
Yes Hero, please keep it going its really cool to learn more about these great Hondas, as i noted in a earlier vid, your influence made me buy a VFR 800 that I’m now completely overhauling over the winter, i love it 😍
+RUNE Rider that’s awesome! Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy the vfr! Awesome motorcycle!
I've had both a YFR 750 and a VTR 1000. Excellent bikes.
And now I have an RC51!
I miss mine so much!!!!!! Yes, it was a bit heavy and cumbersome at low speeds but if you know what you’re doing and don’t mind putting a lil (cough) effort, the bike is very rewarding. Add a few upgrades like Sato rearsets, 1Krr Monobloc radial brake conversion, radiator defuser, spal fans, 15/41 sprockets, flapper delete, carbon fiber air box, a full exhaust, and a PCM, you’ll have very reliable everyday WSBK for the street. Ok, maybe more than just a few upgrades.
Saw a rc51 in a honda store about 15yr ago and i still want it
GODDAMN I ALWAYS LOVED THE SOUND OF THE RC51. JUST GIVES YOU AN EARGASIM EVERYTIME THAT ENGINE REVS..
Bro ur videos are very informative and easy to understand.... Though I have been biking since class 6....u sure did teach me some new things... And i loved the flow of the video. Keep up the good work!
My friend had one. He used to eat us up@ Palomar MTN and Willow Springs on one. Oh yeah the sound 👍👍👍. Did I forget Nicky Hayden(R.I.P.) use to do work on one
I had a 02 SP2. Was actually a very popular bike ~15 years ago, several of my friends had them.
Honda made the best looking sport bikes back in the early 2000s ive had many bikes over the years and the one i miss the most is my old 01 cbr929rr absolutely beautiful bike. Wanted a rc51 but they are so hard to find. I have a gsxr 750 now and even though its much newer than the 929 the 929 was miles ahead as far as quality and style go
RC51 looks amazing, especially in the original red, silver, and black color scheme.
I had the VTR1000F Superhawk, not as fast as the RC51 but still a great bike. Bought it new in 02 and kept it 12 yrs. Still miss that bike.
Always been special and that v2 is needed for my heart
What's cool is back when I was in high school this was my dream bike... I recently purchased a 2001 vtr1000 at first I didn't know there was any similarities but now I'm seeing that there is which is pretty cool that I kind of got my old dream bike at least the PowerPlant anyways
Great video - I've had a VF750S, RC24-1, RC46-1 and now finally a RC51-SP2. I love it - except for the tankrange.
Hey, im from Germany. i've got a sp1 for 6 years now, and i love it
Nice documentary , made me miss my past sp1 and sp2 .....
One of my top 5 bikes.
I just got a formerly tracked RC51 with 12.6k miles on it for a pretty good price. I am in love with this thing! Is it the fastest? No. Is it the sexiest? No. Was it worth the purchase? Yes, yes, and yes.
My favorite bike Honda ever made!
I really miss mine. Done a few track days on her and would always turn heads with the sound of Leo Vince cans and carbon air box
Learning about the VFR first and now the VTR. I really want to get my hands on a Buell next. Currently have a 94 VFR and I don't plan on replacing it until something breaks I can't fix.
Love these bikes so much
One of my favourite bikes of all time! Thanks for the cool video
I've owned my SP1 for 9 years, it really is addictive, sounds fantastic. The torque is great, you can ride it in quite a lazy way if you like! It's looking likely that I'll be adding a vfr 800 as well for touring, can't bring myself to part with the SP1 so she'll be staying for sunny weekend blasts
Love mine
Its way modded to the point only those in the know can tell. Single side exhaust conversion dyno tuned ful repaint etc.
Gets lookie loos and compliments every where I go . I got it in pieces and built it up myself. Never get rid of it.
Rode this bike 100kms after I had ridden a TL1000, my life changed this is a dream bike and would still today want to own one with a better comfier seat though lol
As an owner of 4 of these I am glad you did this review Justice.
I ride a Honda Magna 94’ and I love the V4 engine. I see you are a big fan of v4’s as well. That’s awesome. I am a huge fan of Honda as well as the VFR line. Great channel you have here. 😎
I absolutely loved my RC51 SP2. Most stable bike I owned. I would look at cars around me on the highway and wonder why they were driving so slow, then I would look at my display and see I was doing 110 mph. (Unknowingly, I was THAT guy.)
Love your videos. Especially the vfr history one .Please keep them coming !
It's so interesting to see a video taking a look at the RC 51 with the same passion and admiration as I have always had for this true beauty of a bike. No doubt it has those timeless looks. I loved it the first time I saw it and I love it to date. Nice video keep it up.
I had the super hawk. Same motor, god it sounded nice.
Not the same at all. But beautiful bike the Super hawk. Or Firestorm down in Aus
I miss my SP2. Best bike I ever owned. One of the best I've ever ridden.
And as I recall Collin edwards and Rossi had raced the vtr1000 sp1, the first iteration of this bike in the suzuka 8hour race and after that gave input to Honda to help improve it they, improved on the swingarm as well as on the injectors adding extra injector ports to smoothen the throttle response out.
absolutely love the rc-51
I've liked the RC51 since it's release in 2000. Now I've finally gotten around to buying one. I'm completely in love with it. So I've decided to never sell it again. In fact. I'm gonna buy at least 2 more. One as a spare bike and one that's gonna be transformed into a replica of the 2000 Suzuka 8 hour CABIN HONDA VTR 1000 SPW
