Senior Master Jeff Speakman has updated Kenpo by devising techniques that are used if a person were to go to the ground that stay within the principles of Kenpo with Kenpo 5.0 and yes there is a competition element to Kenpo 5.0 but even with that it does not stray from what the art was created for which is self defense, so with that said I feel that Jeff Speakman's Kenpo 5.0 has the best balence of competition and real world self defense

I started the martial arts in college. At the time, I knew it would be a lifelong journey. And it has.

From my own experience with Kenpo, it is a very good martial art there is alot of good things applicable in the art i still use it in kickboxing/bjj/mma types of sparring but the downside is finding a good school you will either find one thats really good or really bad based on my experiences with it but i honestly do miss learning Kenpo i have alot of good memories from it and have met some pretty good and interesting people at the time
