It's probably a stupid question but when you put your settings so that it is totally dark, then how can you take a picture? Is there a flash that is giving light before you take the picture. Sorry but my English is not perfect so I hope that you know what I mean?

You're right. I almost never shoot portraits at less than f.5.6. Even f.4 or 4.5 run the risk of blurring parts of the subject. If I need a blurry background I can do that in post. Watch out for noise with under exposure..

Eli: Nice video that gives me some good information on setting up lighting and reflection. How do you do your color balancing? I'd use the gray back round as a 'gray card' in Lightroom. You have a good sense of how to get good portraits of your models.

Metering is faster and looks more professional to a client. I can usually guess about where I need to be on f stop, but I meter anyway.

The mirrorless camera will add auto exposure in the preview for that reason Erik. Great question btw
