I saw Seve at several Opens, and he had that extra something that very few do, charisma I guess, but it was also a reflection of his popularity, he was one of a handful that you really wanted to see up close, even when his star was fading. Not many looked as natural with club in hand, either grip or swing. So sad and unfair that he went so young. He is one of the immortals.
It’s a real shame for some to get old and lose their skills. Seve was one of those few. It’s tragic that he did not get to live to a ripe old age to bask in the glory of his great achievements. I was lucky to see him play in his prime as he provided so much entertainment like few could. RIP, great man. I really miss the golf from his era.
1991 Royal Birkdale 16th hole 2nd round Seve goes right off the tee and ends in the bushes and has to take a drop. In Seve fashion, he makes a few jokes in a tense situation, shows a little frustration with the crowd but then jokes again, finally he fires a shot that nearly reaches the green. He almost chips in for par and finish with a 5. Not only an showman but a artist!
I remember he was a brilliant player then all of a sudden he was struggling to play and years later he was diagnosed with a brain tumour so sad 😢he was great to watch
Tell us your favorite Seve Ballesteros moment at The Open...
His recovery from off the green at Lytham in 1988

Notice how Johnny Miller gave him a fist pump and then shook his hand after making his Eagle on 17? Classy move
