first time going to an IMSA event (european) IT WAS AMAZING!! rough track and elbows out racing!!
The track has so much “character” (and my home track) which is why there’s no 24hrs of Sebring, cars couldn’t last 24hrs. Yes, there is a 24hrs of Lemons (@Sebring), but cars are quite obviously very different.
Have you sobered up yet? The infield there at Sebring can get pretty rowdy.

Great Race!! For me the big surprise was Sean Creech Motorsports P4 in LMP2, with a Ligier! It's not Formula Oreca anymore.
This race for me will be a heavy contender for best race of the year. The battles for overall were constant and amazing.
Seriously? Not even close! The WEC Qatar race was FAR better. A true endurance race. No safety cars. No artificial closing of gaps. No wave arounds.

@@WyldStallion-bs9oo "No safety cars" yeah when at a FIA grade 1 track that is wider and with miles of runoff everywhere, it's pretty easy not to have bigger incidents. Here at Sebring is a much different story.

This is the first time I watched IMSA, it was well worth the watch IMO.
I suggest watching the IMSA mx-5 cup. It's some of the best racing right now in my opinion. It's not rare for the top 10 cars to be fighting for the lead the whole race. It's almost impossible to know who's gonna win.
Virtual safety car HAS to happen. Those yellows in the last 90 minutes were just a bad look.
IMSA at Sebring delivers again. BOP has its critics but works well for what this series puts on
Great announcement from IMSA and Reiza studios. The AMS2 user base is excited into high heaven and with iRacing also being officially licensed that means IMSA fans have both the best multi-player and single-player racing sims on the market to enjoy.
Not only that that means the possibility of the MX-5 cup and American Porsche cup joining the sim with their cars, and thanks to SCM the Ligier JS P217 joining alongside the Oreca 07.
As a fan of AMS2 and endurance racing this announcement has been just unbelievable. This new endurance racing and IMSA golden age just doesn't stop getting better.
IMSA needs to follow how WEC is dealing with yellows.
I haven’t watched that much of an IMSA race since like the 2021 rolex, and I know IMSA is quality, but what an exciting and compelling race. Sebring just brings the best drivers to the top and I love the opportunity for error. Two accidents for leaders in GTP gave this race wild set of plot twist. And the GTP battles through traffics were insane. 10/10
Sebring is a notoriously bumpy circuit and so the setups that teams use there are very different to the ones that they run at other circuits. They run significantly higher ride heights and much softer suspension setups than they normally would.
I think the much softer and more forgiving suspension setup teams use at Sebring gives the drivers more confidence and makes for much better wheel to wheel racing. This difference in setup means that a larger percentage of their total grip is produced mechanically as well.
So between that and the softer suspension, drivers are able to really throw the cars around in a way that they're not really able to do when running the car super low to the ground, with really stiff suspension. There are a significant number of moments and minor contacts that happened during wheel to wheel racing which normally would have almost certainly lead to a crash, but didn't due to the more forgiving characteristics of the setup.
This is an element that I think F1 completely failed to factor into the new regulations. While they reduced the downforce loss when following another car, they outlawed the much more sophisticated suspension that the old regs used, in addition to the new regs making ground-effect downforce a core element. Which made it so that not only do the cars have much less complex suspension, they also are even more reliant on being able to run the cars super low to the ground.
The result of this was that the F1 cars in the current regulations are much slower, much less maneuverable than the old cars, and extremely difficult to sustain any real wheel to wheel racing. Certainly nothing like you see in IMSA. When you watch the performance on the 2020 Mercedes W11 and compare it to the current super dominant Red Bull RB20 from this season, the difference in performance and handling is enormous.
Anyways, that last stint of Louis Deletraz was absolutely spectacular. The last hour of these endurance races delivers such good racing so often that I think a series which was basically just like IMSA/WEC at F1 level circuts over F1 race or sprint race distances would be really entertaining and deliver race racing. Maybe do it like F2 with 1 sprint race and 1 feature race per weekend at each circuit on the schedule. (no street races though)

What a race! I was literally on the edge of my seat. Also what an absolute shame that Zilisch kid is going to end up driving those taxi cabs instead of something without fenders.
I love NASCAR but it would be awesome if he could be an IndyCar / stock car crossover star. Maybe do the 500 and the 600 and all that
Genuinely impressed with the lamborghini sc63, not only did it have 0 issues but when was on thr end of the lead lap and it was "leading" the pace was pretty damn decent. It took a number of laps for any of the other cars to finally pass it
That would've been like a podium for them. The car still has the wrapping on it. Two races, no track data, flying blind. It didn't put itself to sleep, didn't play up mechanically, ran like a clock and (kinda) retained the lead lap. A phenomenal result for a second outing, l can't recall anyone doing better.
@@ragereset2795 Oh 100% i think for the most part every other manufacturer had issues in not 1 but both of their first 2 races! Considering lamborghini have NEVER had a purpose built prototype before, makes their story even more remarakabke
It's getting to be that the endurance races are full on sprints. 2023 Lemans felt like a Sprint race from the start.
WEC has much more of an endurance feel these days. IMSA is a parade for 11.hours due to safety cars with a mad dash at the end. I personally don't like it at all. Did not even bother watching most of the race until after 9 pm.

@@alexbelmonte4581 That is not true at all. You can seriously chill for 11 hours. And just go for it in the final hour maybe even half hour. IMSA is revealing themselves to be big con when it comes to endurance races. There is not much of an endurance factor to it.
It’s been that way for the past 10-15 years, going back to the titanic Audi vs Peugeot days.

Awesome race!! Say what you will about bunching up the field after full course yellows...it makes things pretty interesting at the end. It was amazing that all categories finished with such close times. Less than 5 seconds difference for the top 3 in all divisions! Hell of a show!! It's a GREAT time for endurance racing!!!!
Also, amazing freakin job David!! You put together some fantastic vids and got some awesome interviews! Hell Yeah bud, You're killing it!!

The yellow flag procedure change at Le Mans is a huge blow to the legacy of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Catch the leader flag shouldn't be a thing, especially in endurance racing. We have the technology to get rid of the pace car entirely.

Yeah, I figured this year's Sebring was going to be a bit nutty. But this was on another level ENTIRELY lol. The track itself was absolutely insane - it felt like a CART race from the 80s with how insanely bumpy and rough the track surface was, along with the number of people just brazenly going in the dirt and over kerbs basically every opportunity they could get LMAO. What a phenomenal race!

The consistent pattern by GT Ferraris to cause problems as Prototypes are lapping them, regardless of who's driving them, is truly remarkable.
How about Hawksworth essentially deciding the GTP race by blocking the caddy through sunset (after letting the Acura through) when it was probably the caddy’s last chance to get a run on the Acura? That was absolute BS

I find it to be a tragedy that there isn’t in Indycar race at Sebring tomorrow. All the fans are there, just sell a separate ticket for Sunday. I’m desperate to see a Grand Prix at the epic track.
I'm amazed at how IMSA has pretty much always done BOP better than the WEC, even now with both series having some LMDHs the balance between the LMDH cars is leagues better than in the WEC.
Well WEC has LMH and LMDh while IMSA only has LMDh. It's a bit different.

Wec doesn't have safety cars to bunch everyone back up. If this race ran for 12 hours caution free, you would see a similar result to what the WEC has.

The accident could've been worse, they didn't seem to be able to extract Pipo from the car until they can pick the car up from its roof and they can open the door to get him out. They were lucky the car was not on fire.

Jack Hawksworth is a beast in that car and Lexus has damn near perfected that racecar. It's a beast on most tracks but on a track that suits it, it's just a killer combo. Even with a balanced BOP.
@@e2rqey i understand that jack is a beast and that the vasser sullivan team knows how to set it up but it just feels weird with how quick the FIA is to make BOP changes to other manufacturers

That race was awesome
IMSA really does need to adapt a code 60 or VSC type of rule, but overall the race was excellent, and I loved seeing the Lamborghini GTP catching the leader under green and getting back on the lead lap was a sight to see
Between IMSA and WEC we have never had it so good.

Ngl I dont think a GTP/Hypercar team is going to call him up. He is a great driver but he has to little experience in prototypes currently it wouldn't make sense for anyone to take him at the moment, it is the same thing with Pin, she is a great driver and performed well in LMP2 last year but Iron Lynx and Lamborghini were never going to take her for the Hypercar because she has only done 1 year in LMP2, is a silver rated driver and only done a few years of actual car racing which is the exact same position Zilisch is in currently.
I could see him getting the reserve/test driver for a Hypercar/GTP team but I think he needs atleast another year of LMP2 to get a Hypercar/GTP seat and even then it still would be hard with the amount of drivers that are linking up to get a Hypercar/GTP seat over the next few years.
Drive for whoever allows, if nadcars knocking then so be it

Loved the race, WAY TO MANY FCY for a bit of debris on track. They need to figure that out.
How many pit penalties? Felt like every five minutes someone else got pinged for one....
Also I like the emergency pit service rule as is, feels like IMSA knows what they are doing. RLM had the head honcho in the booth for an interview and to hear Hindhaugh get giddy and excited and praise IMSA got me smiling. Geordies and adjacents are not easy to please all the time
Couldnt agree more with your point on VSC's. Also, maybe IMSA and WEC should just chill a little bit regarding BOP. I understand why its there, but it feels like it actually ends up stifling innovation and neutering long term storylines. I get that it creates closer racing, but close racing doesnt draw in an audience, storylines and car development do. If close racing mattered then Indycar would be the biggest series in the world, but lo and behold it's currently dying on the vine.
But it’s a necessary evil. Without BOP, the current classes of LMH and GTP don’t exist to this level of success.
@@coyy9106 Im not saying get rid of BOP. Im saying have a lighter touch in applying. Allowing more differentiation in performance will spur innovation, which is what fans and manufacturers both want.
The first win of the year for Andretti global in the usa already won one formula e race. first win of the year for herta. the safety was terrible. the tyre wall was garbage. they just stacked them against the wall. that is why the tyres went flying. the tyres should have been tied together and wrapped with a belt. so it could move and act as a wall. they need to fix that problem. he might not have flipped if the tyre wall stayed together. they should get large drones with a claw. they could have picked the bumper right off the track. i am in florida there was no publicity locally that the race was even happening.

All three give points. The Indy champion gets 40 (same as the F2 champion) GTP 20 and NASCAR 15

Overall a fantastic event, but there has to be some mitigation of all these full course cautions. It's getting a bit out of hand.

Also IMSA really needs to start looking Virtual Safety Car procedures for the races. Even IndyCar and NASCAR in some cases too. Daytona ya had one car spinning a bunch of times that brought the yellow out the majority of the time, now ya have debris bringing out the yellow to bunch the field up. Like definitely Derani’s Cadillac as well as the AF Corsa LMP2 stuck in the barrier is definitely worthy of a full course yellow. But to bunch the field up behind the pace car/safety car for a piece of the car that 50% of the time is like a mile off the racing surface but still needs to be attended to, it’s like what’s the point in that? With IMSA being owned by NASCAR, who quite a number of times throws the yellow at odd times, ya definitely see the NASCAR influence in IMSA with the yellows.
If Zilisch wins Le Mans this year in an LMP2 car, he will be the youngest driver to ever complete the true endurance triple crown in any category... You're witnessing history with this kid and it's insane for me because I remember watching him last year in a pro late model and not giving it a second thought. I hope whatever top tier class of motorsport he ends up in, he keeps right on running other stuff like this because he could be the next Foyt or heck I'll toss Ken Schrader's name in there as a person who wins at least once in every damn thing he drives.

Can anyone explain why the broadcasts are so focused on, even obsessed with, Wayne Taylor? I know he was a successful championship racer, but he's treated like more of a celebrity than even Chip Ganassi or Roger Penske.
Wayne is pretty good at showing his emotion with his facial expressions, and TV likes to show drama. Roger, Cindric, and Mike Hull are pretty stone faced, and Chip tends to get as angry with the pit reporter's questions as he gets about the on-track action.
Look up his interview with Justin Bell after his team won the Rolex 24 a few years ago: “That was fking ace!!” 🤣

Sure that BOP is really working for the Ford, seems like Nascar I mean IMSA will probably do something favorable for them but will be to late by the end of the season, be careful cause this is the same reason Ford stopped racing the GT
BOP is showing up for a weight loss challange that pays 3 million dollars and your trying to decide how big of tungsten butt plug to use at opening weigh-in.

Sebring is purposely kept bumpy. It’s part of the challenge and heritage. The big factory teams have traditionally used Sebring as a testing ground for reliability for Le Mans.

Thanks for bringing up the sprint-to-the-finish issue. It does really bother me. Obviously, it sometimes happens - drivers are more aggressive towards the end, cars are more on their limit, the track is marbled up and dirty off the line, etc. But it's at a point where your strategy should be "stay on the lead lap and then attack from the last hour after the field gets bunched up".
There's zero incentive to drive for any sort of lead early on. If you got teams that have faster drivers earlier in the car, or cars that are quicker in earlier conditions ... it's almost worthless to have. All that matters is speed at the end and one fast driver for those last two or so stints.
Endurance racing shouldn't be like that. It can be sometimes, but it shouldn't always be.
And there's really no reason IMSA can't implement VSC or other measures to preserve gaps, mitigating the problem.
